CHRIS CHRISTIE Governor HAROLD J. WIRTHS Commissioner

All unemployment claims run from Sunday to Saturday You may not file for unemployment before your actual layoff date If you file early, it will code your claim for the prior week and could result in a flag being placed on your claim If you miss your filing day AND fail to file within that 7 day period, you will lose your benefits for that week

Your unique Identifiers You ll need to create a User Name,. Password and 4-digit PIN Bank account information If you want Direct Deposit Dependency information If you aren t already entitled to. the maximum benefit Tax Implications UI is NOT taxable by New Jersey, but IS. taxable by the Feds

You will be asked multiple choice questions to confirm your identity and protect you against identify theft If you fail the identity verification, you STILL will be permitted to file your claim or certify for benefit payments. HOWEVER, no benefits will be paid until you verify in-person at your local One- Stop Career Center If you don t answer or answer incorrectly, you must report inperson to one of our offices with identity documentation Information listing acceptable documentation and office locations will be mailed to you for your in-person verification

Visit our web site and use our Benefits Calculator: http://lwd.state.nj.us/uiapp/start.html Benefits are calculated based upon the wages earned and number of weeks (up to 26 weeks) If you worked for less than 26 weeks during the Base Year, your benefits will reflect the actual number of weeks worked Benefits are 60% of your average weekly before-tax wages during the Base Year

If you are not already qualified for the maximum rate, you may qualify for up to an additional 15% in benefits: Will your spouse or civil partner be unemployed the first week you file? Do you have children as well? Are you a single parent?

Payment in Lieu of Notice (When your employer continues to pay you after you stop working) You cannot file until the last payment is received, but the payments do not reduce your benefits Severance or Bonus Pay Vacation or Sick days, Holidays Social Security Benefits Pension payments from employers outside of the Base Year

It s a GOOD idea to work Part-Time while job searching because it extends your eligible benefit period for up to one year When you work Part-Time, you can earn up to 20% of your Weekly benefit rate without a reduction Your base rate is increased by 20% and the money you would have received from us is reduced by only the portion of money you earned (over 20%) Then, if you are still searching for Full-Time work, your benefits continue until you ve exhausted the money deferred due to your Part-Time work

You must be able, available and actively seeking employment You will be required to certify for benefits the third Wednesday after you have filed your claim You may be asked to provide documentation about your job search efforts You will need to continue certifying your benefits every two weeks by answering seven questions

You can receive your unemployment benefits two ways: Direct Deposit into a bank account of your choice or via a Bank of America debit card If you choose the debit card method, you may use them at any Bank of America branch with NO FEES; however, be careful about using it elsewhere because you could be charged convenience fees Information from Bank of America will be sent to you to explain how to use your card and instances where you could incur charges
