The ICEF Agent Training Course (IATC) A practical training course for agency student counsellors Delivered online and free of charge in a self-paced format Course objectives: to support excellence and professional standards in international education Providing student counsellors with essential skills and knowledge for working in international education, i.e. - An understanding of the international education market and the main student destination countries - The functional dynamics of dealing with students, education institutions and government - The skills and research parameters to analyse destination countries and their education products and processes
IATC Course Development & Status Developed with the input of 769 agents in 113 countries and 437 education institutions in 78 countries An international advisory board reviewed and gave input to final course material (30 agent / educator members in 19 countries) Enthusiastic reaction worldwide since launch in 2010, especially from agents wishing to take the course To date, over 8400 student counsellors are studying the course and 789 candidates in 100 countries have successfully passed the test

Structure of IATC Course Units Each Course Unit (A) is divided into Lessons (A1) Each Lesson is divided into Pages (A1.1) The course contains 12 Lessons (36 Pages in total)
Unit A: The Context of International Education Five Lessons, 21 Pages in total Main Destination Countries Education Systems Regulatory Systems Legal Requirements Student Visas
Unit B: People in international Education Four Lessons, 8 Pages in total People in International Education Student Client Management Student Care Issues Student Documents
Unit C: Promoting International Education Three Lessons, 7 Pages in total Working Effectively Marketing Information Ethics
IATC Lessons Each Lesson starts with an overview of its content Focus Questions at the beginning of each Lesson prepare the student for the information contained in it
IATC Pages Pages provide the learning material Extension Questions assist in applying the knowledge gained Activities at the end of each Page are learning tools
Who can take this course? New agency staff members: the IATC is an excellent training tool for new student counsellors at agencies Practising student counsellors: the IATC provides further credibility and up-to-date information about international education principles and processes Agency managers / owners are also welcome to take the course Educators interested in understanding the fundamental principles of a working agent relationship An English proficiency equivalent to an IELTS score of 5.0 (or TOEFL PBT 500 / TOEFL ibt 61) is advisable
IATC Practical Information Delivered online in a self-paced modular format (approx. 50 hours of study are recommended) Course is free of charge, formal exam costs 250 (this includes three attempts) Worldwide testing at all ICEF Workshops, plus ability to do online at any time with a webcam Test format: 50 multiple choice questions in 80 minutes (destination country information not tested) Candidates with minimum of 80% correct answers pass the test Highly recommended to do (and pass!) the Self- Assessment before requesting a testing opportunity Candidates successfully passing the exam will receive a Certificate and obtain the status of ICEF Trained Agent Counsellor (ITAC)
Recognition of ICEF Trained Agent Counsellors (ITACs) ICEF Trained Agent Counsellors (ITACs) receive an ICEF Certificate A recognised distinction of quality and professionalism, providing further industry credibility to counsellors and their agencies Their name, ITAC #, agency profile & contact information are featured in an online listing on Graduates can also be found on the ITAC Finder (Google map, find an agency by location)
