This questionnaire is designed to help you work out what resources you have to help you with your marketing and to help you grow your store sales. The questionnaire will take around 30 minutes to complete thoroughly, and by the end of it you will have a much better idea of the strengths and weaknesses you have and where you need to be taking your marketing. Where are You at Right Now? Who is the target market now? What age group and economic group is the store currently selling to? What market (age and economic) do you want the company to achieve? What is your current population in town & catchment area? What is your attitude to discounting? Are you in a mall or strip shop?

If a strip, do you own the building or rent it If you are in a mall would you describe mall management s attitude towards your promotions as supportive? Do you currently have a door counter? How do you know if a promotion that you have done has worked? Do you measure your results? How do you measure results? Do you keep the results to gauge whether to run it next year? How long has the business been established?

What is your attitude to holding a sale? How often do you have one? What marketing does your competition do? How many stores are within a 3km radius of your store? Are they aiming for the same target market as you? What about your current marketing isn t working? What promotions do you currently do, or have you done, that have worked well for you? When are your late nights? What are your Christmas hours? What methods of payment are available at your store?

What s your POD? (Point of Difference) Why would anyone buy from you now? What would make me choose you for my jewellery needs over someone else? Do not give good service as an answer; your competitors are saying exactly the same thing!) What is the stores point of difference? (Again, don t give good service as an answer) What existing discount or loyalty programs do you run? What guarantees or warranties do you currently offer on what you sell? Do you currently contact customers with buying suggestions? Staff Do you undertake regular staff training?

Is it mostly sales orientated or product orientated or a mix of both? Do you have the staff you require to achieve the sales goals you want? How many staff do you currently employ? Numbers & Stuff What is your annual sales turnover? What do you plan to grow the sales by in the next 12 months? In the next 3 years? In the next 5 years? What department is the largest percentage of sales now? What department do you want to be the largest percentage of sales? Do you have the inventory at present to achieve the sales targets you have in mind?

What size is the database? How frequently is the database used? What is the most expensive item in store? What is the closest price item to that one? What is your stock/inventory holding? What percentage of the stores business comes from repairs? What percentage of sales is spent on marketing now? Between what media is this marketing split? (Any examples of existing advertising you have run would be appreciated) What percentage of sales occurs in December? Do you have a day by day split of trading in December?

How much is your rent? What is the stores current average sale? What would you like it to be? What size (square foot) is your store? Who, of a non jewellery nature, is in the immediate vicinity that would be eating into your target customers spending? If you are part of a group, what is the schedule for catalogues that you are taking part in? Do you have a high mark up /low volume approach or a low mark up/ high volume approach? Stock & Merchandising What diamond brands do you carry? What watch brands do you carry?

Are you in the bead business, if so what? Do you stock giftware? Do you have a blackboard (or similar) outside your store? Do you put all your rings in the window? Websites & Social Media Does the company have an internet site? Is it designed to sell online or is it purely advertising? How often does it get updated? Does the company have a presence on Facebook, Twitter or any other social media site? Do the owners have a personal presence on any social media site?
