MONROE COLLEGE FAQs

1. What is the advantage of studying Bachelors in Monroe? The small class sizes allow for lots of interaction between students and faculty and provide opportunities for more professional feedback and discussions. With trimester schedule, students can complete their Bachelors one year earlier than colleges with only two terms. For example: Students could complete the entire bachelors which are of 8 semesters within 2 years and 8 months due to our tri semester academic calendar whereas students studying in other Universities would complete the same bachelors program in 4 years. 2. What is the advantage of studying Masters in Monroe? We give our MBA students many opportunities for real world experience while you study through small business center activities, integrative projects that all students must complete, internships opportunities related to the course of study, management simulations in addition to interactive classroom discussion. With small class sizes, students and faculty have lots of interaction which benefits the students in terms of obtaining career guidance and more in-depth professional knowledge. Our tuition is affordable relative to all other MBA programs in the NYC area. We are close to NYC which provides plenty of opportunities for internships to enhance the students' learning experience. Students could complete the entire masters which are of 4 semesters within 1 year and 4 months due to our tri semester academic calendar whereas students studying in other Universities would complete the same master`s program in 2 years. 3. Is the degrees internationally recognized? Yes, because we have obtained regional accreditation and many of our undergrad and grad programs are pursuing or have achieved programmatic accreditation by external accreditation agencies. Also, Monroe College is ranked by US News and World Report (2014 edition) as one of Best Regional Universities. The degrees offered by Monroe College are internationally recognized and same as all the other University degrees in USA. 4. Why should students prefer Monroe when compared to other Universities in USA? The personal attention that students receive, the cost of tuition relative to other universities that offer the same degrees but with much higher tuition fees, the location (close to NYC), the diversity of the student population, coupled with the opportunities to develop "real world" work skills while they earn their degrees. 1 P a g e M O N R O E C O L L E G E, U S A

Perhaps not surprisingly, New York City ranks as the number one metropolitan destination for foreign students and Monroe College is having two campuses in New York. With small class sizes, students and faculty have lots of interaction which benefits the students in terms of obtaining career guidance and more in-depth professional knowledge. We are close to NYC which provides plenty of opportunities for internships to enhance the students' learning experience. Monroe is proud to have been named the Most Affordable Private College in New York by U.S. News & World Report, with a tuition that is about 50% less than the average private College/Universities in the United States. Monroe College is ranked by US News and World Report (2014 edition) as one of Best Regional Universities. More than 4000 Institutions are there in USA and only around 100 Institutions are ranked and we are proud to be one among the top 100 ranked Institutions in the USA. 5. Why fees structure is low when compared with other Universities/Colleges in USA? Pursuing higher education is an investment but it should be an affordable investment not one that "breaks the bank". Based on this premise, we make sure that our tuition is affordable, especially because of the income levels that our student population and their families. Most of the Universities/Colleges in the USA would have a variation in fee for international students when compared with local residents but with Monroe both local and international students pay the standard fee. 6. Do we have part time job for international students? For students that need to enhance their learning experience outside of the classroom, internship opportunities are available off campus through the Office of Career Advancement (OCA). 2 P a g e M O N R O E C O L L E G E, U S A

7. After successful completion of course do we have placement assistance? Assistance is provided through the OCA office but placement is not guaranteed. The OCA office has relationships with employers who advertise job openings to our students but the students must pursue these opportunities on their own. 8. Why GRE or GMAT not required in Monroe for studying Masters when it is mandatory in Other Universities? The GMAT and GRE aren't necessarily good indicators of our student body's success in graduate school. Solid academic performance at the Bachelor's level coupled with meaningful professional experience are strong soft skills are better predictors of success in graduate school. 9. Why SAT not required in Monroe for studying Bachelors when it is mandatory in other Universities? High school performance and teacher/administrator recommendations are better predictors of success in college than standardized tests such as the SAT. 10. If students without GRE or GMAT enrol for our programme then what would be the Visa possibility? The college cannot predict VISA approval outcomes. 11. What is the minimum TOEFL OR IELTS requirement for Masters? A total TOEFL score of 80 with at least 20 in writing and speaking is required IELTS- 6.0 and above Overall 12. What is the minimum TOEFL requirement for Bachelors? Is it possible for Indian students who have completed 12th standard (12 years qualification) enroll for bachelors directly? Yes, this is possible. The student does not need to do an associate s degree first. 25. Is it possible for Indian students who have completed 3 year Bachelors (B Com, BSc, BBA etc ) those who would have 15 years qualification enroll for MBA directly? The three-year bachelor s degree from India has traditionally been viewed in the U.S. as comparable to the completion of three years of undergraduate study, and holders of the degree have generally not been eligible for admission to U.S. graduate schools. Three-year bachelor s degrees earned in Division or Class I and II at universities accredited by the NAAC with a grade of A will be evaluated as equivalent to the U.S. bachelor s degree. All other three-year degrees will continue to be evaluated as equivalent to three years of undergraduate study. 5 P a g e M O N R O E C O L L E G E, U S A

26. Is it possible for fresh graduates without experience to enroll for Master s program or do they need experience? We strongly recommend and would prefer that students have work experience because the program will not be a meaningful for students without professional experience. However, if the student s academic performance is strong as well as the other application components, the application should be submitted for review. In some cases, students with no work experience can be enrolled in our professional track which requires the student to participate in at least two internship experiences while he/she studies. 27. Who could sponsor a student for tuition fee and living expense? Could it be his relatives? Anyone can sponsor her: relatives (parents, uncles, aunts, etc. or employers.) 28. How long the fund for living expense and Tuition fee has to be available in their account and do they need to show the source of fund for the available fund? The funds have to be from the last three to six months. Yes. The source of funds needs to be shown and certified. The source of funds must be liquid. 29. Is it necessary for students to show the bank balance for the total tuition fee for the entire program + the living expense for the entire duration of the program? Students must show bank balance for first two semester tuition fees, living expenses and miscellaneous expenses such as books. For students who will live off campus, they must show an additional $4,000 for living expenses. 30. What is the difference between a College and University in USA? Each institution in USA is an individual autonomous College or University and they could award their own degree but they have to be accredited by the Education department of United States of America. The Colleges are nationally accredited private or public institution of higher learning that could offer certificate, associate, bachelors, and master s degree programs.
