Dear reader, Some years ago when someone whom I love was very ill, I began writing what I call make beliefs, or picture and word prompts likes the ones in this book. In doing so, I was seeking to escape to a different, happier world in my imagination where I could dream and get some peace from the turmoil I was feeling. I decided to call these writing prompts make beliefs after a favorite childhood game in which I would make believe that I could experience strange, marvelous things like having wings to fly, or walking on the moon, or talking to animals in their own language. (Don t you think of such things, too?) These make beliefs helped spark my own imagination and encouraged me to write or think about the answers to the strange, impossible questions I asked. I hope this book of make believe will also stimulate your own creative thinking and writing. I know that deep down each of us is capable of being more than we are if we can catch our breath for a while, lose some of our fears, and try to imagine what things would be like if such and such would happen. The intent of this book is let your mind roam to new places and ideas. i Make Beliefs to Spark Your Writing Make Beliefs to Spark Your Writing ii

Over the years, after publication of my first make-believe book, Makebeliefs: A Gift for Your Imagination, I kept writing new makebeliefs which became this book you are reading. Writing these prompts helped me get through some tough times and always made me happier and more hopeful. I hope you will enjoy the new make beliefs offered in this new digital diary format. Perhaps you can fill in some of the pages with a friend, too, and share the fun. After you download this book you can write your responses directly on your computer screen, then save what you write and keep returning whenever you want to answer more of the book s writing prompts. The comic strips shown in this book were all created with the same characters found on my web site, MakeBeliefsComix.com, which I hope you will also visit to create your own comic stories. I encourage you, too, to use the web site to create your own make belief writing prompts. I am sure your rich imaginations will allow you to discover your own iii Make Beliefs to Spark Your Writing Make Beliefs to Spark Your Writing iv

new worlds and ideas which specifically interest you. I d like for this book to encourage you to write. But most of all, I want you to have fun in expressing your own creativity and tapping into your great imaginations. Sincerely, Bill Zimmerman Creator/ MakeBeliefsComix.com P.S. In filling in this digital book s pages you also have the option of printing out any pages that you want and also of sending the completed digital book as an email attachment to someone with whom you wish to share all your special thoughts.
