Strategic Plan 2013-2016 Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) Vision Assuring a healthy and sustainable planet through our soils. Mission To advance soils as fundamental to life. Strategic Plan 2013-2016 1. Promote soil science education to a broad audience Increase website traffic and downloads from kids and teachers sites (double the number of visits and SEO number one) a. Implement K-12 Goals and Activity Plan b. Develop marketing and outreach campaign c. Search Engine Optimization and reevaluate of key words and increase the number of links d. Develop materials for College Teachers e. Enhance the Soils in the City page f. Increase the number of videos on the website g. Link to departmental online courses and provide as information source Increase the number of unique short courses and webinars (double the number of offerings and revenues at high satisfaction levels) a. Develop a committee that will oversee the development of the materials as well as making sure the person developing them receives appropriate credit b. Develop a marketing plan for short courses and webinars specifically for outreach to other groups Increase Social Media participation: Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest (double the number of followers) a. Appoint a committee to put together social media content to get to staff b. Staff responsibility to feed (newsflash, twitter feeds) c. Utilize video contests 1.

2. Promote soil science research Increased member participation in grassroots advocacy (to the best level of other professional societies) a. Implement Congressional Quarterly grassroots software b. Expand society s portfolio of profitable publications c. Track/measure progress of Digital Library d. Increase institutional and individual metrics of usage e.
