ACLS CHALLENGE FAST TRACK CNE: 0.0 CME: 2.0 This Challenge Fast Track, taught according to the 2010 guidelines, is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of the hospital, and who have completed at least one ACLS Update Course, and who is required to renew their ACLS certification for their job description or job requirement. These sessions include testing in: Airway, CPR, Megacode, and Written Exam. **You must come prepared for this course and successfully complete all four areas or you will be rescheduled into an Update Course. Remediation at the mega code station and for the written exam is not allowed in the Challenge Fast Track Program. Completing the pre-test will assist you with the final exam. You must bring the self-assessment pre-test to class it is requirement to pass the course. Requirements for taking this course: 1. Current ACLS Provider Card 2. Current AHA CPR Healthcare Provider Card 3. Course Preparation Checklist 4. Have completed ONE Update Course, minimum 5. Bring completed Pre-Test to the Course (must present at registration to gain entry to course) If you are unable to attend you must submit a request in writing by fax, e-mail or mail to the HR Coordinator at least 10 days before the class to have the course tuition reimbursed. A refund processing fee of 15% will be deducted from the paid tuition for all refunds. Manuals that have been sent to participants and have been opened are not refundable and the cost of the book will not be refunded. ACLS PROVIDER COURSE (2 DAY) CNE: 12.5 CME: 12.5 The ACLS Provider Course (2 day), taught according to the 2010 guidelines, is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of the hospital, and are required to renew their ACLS certification for their job description or job requirement. The goal of the ACLS Provider Course is to improve quality of care provided to the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other pulmonary emergency. This course will enhance your skills in the treatment of arrest and periarrest patients through active participation in a series of simulated cardiac and respiratory cases. These simulations are designed to reinforce important concepts, including BLS Primary Survey, ACLS Secondary Survey, ACLS Algorithms, Effective team leader skills and team dynamics. If you are an EMMC employee, please contact your unit educator for a book. Course Prerequisites: 1. Current BLS Healthcare Provider Card, and performing BLS skills using the 2010 AHA guidelines 2. Course Preparation Checklist 3. Bring completed Pre-Test to the Course (must present at registration to gain entry to course) 4. Reading and interpreting ECG's (Information may be obtained from the library) 5. Understanding ACLS drugs (in manual and on-line) 6. ACLS UPDATE COURSE CNE: CME: 6.0 The ACLS Update Course (1 day), taught according to the 2010 guidelines, is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of the hospital, have completed at least one ACLS Provider Course, and are required to renew their ACLS certification for their job description or job requirement. This course will focus on strengthening and enhancing the team leader skills of the healthcare provider in various cardiac and respiratory scenarios. Instruction includes cognitive and performance standards of emergency cardiac and respiratory care through simulation scenarios, practical hands on experience, and team leader practice. Classes fill up quickly! If you know that you are due to renew, we suggest that you register for a class as soon as possible. A current AHA BCLS Instructor card is a pre-requisite. Please send a copy of your card with your registration form and also bring your card with you to the course. CPR NEW INSTRUCTOR COURSE CNE: 7.5 CME: 0.0 This one day course, taught according to the 2010 guidelines, is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to instruct individuals in CPR. A current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider card is a pre-requisite for this course, along with a desire and the skills to teach. Please send us a copy of your CPR card and also bring it with you to the course. If you do not hold this card, you may take this course through the Beacon Health Wellness Department by calling 207-217-1878 to register. After you register for this CPR New Instructor Course, you will receive a letter of intent asking you to complete and return it to us as soon as possible. ONLY after receipt of this paperwork will you be registered. The day will run from 7 am to 5 pm. During this time you will complete the Instructor Essentials Course in a computer room, which should take between 2 and 2 1/2 hours. Once completed the participant move on to the remainder of the day, which will include skills, written exam, and information pertinent to Instructors and Training Centers. Prior teaching experience is very helpful and preferred. You must successfully complete five components of this program in order to become an Instructor: Instructor Essentials Course, Performance Skills, Teaching Skills, Written Exam, and Team Teaching within 30 days of this course. You will also be required to update every two years, teach a minimum of four courses in two years, and attend any required AHA Update sessions. Tuition includes the Instructor Essentials Course, which you will receive the day of the course, the BLS Instructor Manual and the BLS Healthcare Provider Manual, of which both will be mailed to you 4-6 weeks prior to the course in order for you to prepare. PALS PROVIDER (2 DAY) CNE: 12.3 CME: 12.3 The PALS Provider Course (2 days), taught according to the AHA 2010 guidelines, is designed for healthcare providers who initiate pediatric advanced life support beyond the first few minutes through the stabilization or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, and are required to certify in PALS for their job requirement. PALS Providers may include Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, PA s, Paramedics, EMTs, and Respiratory Therapists. This classroom, video-based, instructor-led course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The goal of this course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. A written exam, along with a performance evaluation/megacode, is part of this program and both must be passed in order to successfully complete the course. The mega code tests the strength of the participant in the Team Leader role. Training cards are issued once the participant completes all of the course requirements.
