International PhD Programme in Molecular Life Sciences Vienna Biocenter Programme founded in 1993 Organized jointly by IMP, MFPL, IMBA, GMI Presently approx. 250 PhD students on campus Selection process twice per year Application deadline May/November EDUCATION 300 to 400 Applications for each selection 20 to 30 vacancies in each selection 25% of applicants from Austria/Germany 60% of applicants from EU countries PhD Programme Application Criteria/Interview Process EDUCATION Completed online application form Two letters of recommendation Master s degree for EU applicants or BA (Hons) or equiv. for UK/US applicants Recommendation that applicants are under 30 years of age VBC faculty first reviews all complete applications Candidates with strong academic achievements are invited to Vienna for 5-day interview procedure (approx. double the amount of vacancies) Formal interview with discussion element Candidates who perform well in the interview then have two days to discuss potential research projects with group leaders Students prioritize the groups they would like to join Students group leaders offer positions to the students who best fit the project and the lab. Candidates have3 weeks to accept or decline the offer.
