1 Follow-up Master s Degree Programme N2301 Mechanical Engineering, Field of Study Applied Mechanics, Study in the English Language In the academic year 2015/2016, it is possible to commence study in the English language Master degree programme N2301 Mechanical Engineering, field of study Applied Mechanics. Applicants are admitted to the first year only for the full-time study. The study takes place only at the premises of the faculty. The study is open to graduates of bachelor degree programmes at technical universities in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other countries, professionally the same or similar to the bachelor degree programme B2341 Engineering or the bachelor degree programme B3712 Air Transport Technologies that are accredited at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava (hereinafter FS of VŠB-TUO ). The similarity of the field of study chosen by the candidate with the field of study of the bachelor degree program completed by the candidate is assessed according to the applicant s successfully completed courses listed in his/her diploma supplement. Candidates will apply directly for study in the relevant study programme. Admission to the English-language master degree programme Mechanical Engineering is conditioned by the bachelor degree programme completed by passing the final state examination and knowledge of English at the required level (see 1.4). The guarantor of the field of study will examine the possibility of early admission for the applicant based on the materials supplied by him/her. Tuition fee for the master degree programme taught in a foreign language in accordance with Article 9 Tuition Fees and Payments Related to Study Paragraph 9 of the Statute of VŠB-TUO amounts to 4,000 EUR for each academic year. This fee is payable at the beginning of the study in the particular academic year and is non-refundable. The Faculty also offers study to physically disabled students. The specific situation should be consulted in advance with the field of study guarantor. 1.1 Electronic Application for Admission The applicant submits the application for admission electronically within the deadline for submission of the application (see 1.9). The electronic application form is available on VŠB-TUO web portal (http://uchazec.vsb.cz), which can be displayed for the applicant in English language by selecting the language in the web browser. It is not necessary to print the application, or to send it to VŠB-TUO. The application must include the field of study Applied Mechanics. The applicant who has completed the Bachelor degree in 2015 at another faculty than FS of VŠB- TUO, has to enter the bachelor degree study results (from the first to the penultimate semester) in electronic form into the electronic application appendix before closing the application; the results are issued and confirmed by the relevant department for study affairs. The candidate who completes the bachelor degree programme in 2015 at FS of VŠB-TUO does not enter the study results. In the event that the applicant has already acquired the bachelor degree and diploma supplement, s/he will scan these two documents into the appendix (see 1.4). The applicant will be notified on the application acceptance by obtaining an invitation for the entrance examination, or by obtaining a notice of the exemption from the entrance exam, namely by registered mail, sent to the address stated in the application. A medical certificate of medical fitness for study is not required. 1.3 The Fee for Admission Procedure Administrative fee for the admission procedure in accordance with Article 9 Tuition Fees and Payments for Study Paragraph 2 of the Statute of VŠB-TUO) amounts to 500 CZK, and it is non-refundable at any stage of the admission procedure. The fee should be paid immediately after submitting the application, because without this payment, the application cannot be further administered in the information system. The payer s bank s fees and the beneficiary s bank s fees shall be borne by the payer's account (as bank instructions related to fees for payments via SWIFT interbank network, it is necessary to enter the payment type OUR). The payment must be credited at the latest within eight working days after the deadline for submitting applications for the admission procedure (see 1.9). On the back side of the copy of the Diploma Supplement in paper form, state the application number, which is displayed in the electronic application. The applicant who applies within the admission procedure, and at the same time s/he will finish his/her studies in the bachelor degree programme B2341 Engineering or in the bachelor degree programme B3712 Aviation Technology at FS VŠB-TUO in the spring term of the state final examinations in the academic year 2014/2015, does not submit these documents; they will be provide by the department for study affairs. Together with the application for study, applicants from abroad, except applicants from the Slovak Republic, and citizens of the Czech Republic graduating from undergraduate study abroad, must submit: a certified copy of the validation of the title Bachelor (Bc.), i.e. a certificate of recognition of foreign education equivalence (http://verejna-sprava.krmoravskoslezsky.cz/sk_uznavani_en.html). Applicants who are admitted to study in EU programmes, Czech Government grantees, and applicants recruited on the basis of bilateral intergovernmental agreements have to submit a certified copy of the validation of the Bachelor degree (Bc.), i.e. a certificate of recognition of foreign education equivalence at the latest by the end of winter semester of the first year of their studies. a certified translation of the listing of all the exams and their results from the previous study in a bachelor degree programme or a copy of the Diploma Supplement or their equivalent, including the possible transfer to the Czech grading scale. Applicants whose mother tongue is not English must submit together with the application for study: evidence of knowledge of the English language - minimum requirements: IELTS score of 5.0; TOEFL Internet score of 62 (other certificates or documents on the same level are acceptable as well). In special cases, the Dean may exempt the applicant from this exam. Scope of exercises for the entrance examination in mathematics are published on the web portal of the faculty (http://www.fs.vsb.cz in the Applicants ). Entrance examination in mathematics is evaluated by a point system ranging from 0 to 60 points; the minimum number of points required for admission determined for admission is specified by the Dean of the Faculty. 1.6 The Rules Governing the Exemption from the Entrance Examination The exemption from the entrance exam is granted to graduates of bachelor degree programmes related to the study programme B2341 Engineering, accredited at FS of VŠB-TUO if the study average of the previous study in a bachelor degree programme was at least 70 points (out of 100), or if they have reached the arithmetic mean of the study results in a bachelor degree programme from the first to the penultimate semester of at least 2.50, or have achieved excellent or very good grade of the final examination of a bachelor degree programme, or at the recommendation of the admission committee. The exemption from the entrance exam is granted to applicants who are admitted for study in EU programmes, Czech Government grantees, and applicants admitted based on bilateral intergovernmental agreements. 1.7 Evaluation of the Order of Applicants in the English Language Study in the Field of Study Applied Mechanics of the follow-up Master Degree Programme N2301 Mechanical Engineering For applicants who have been granted exemption from the entrance examination, the order will depend on their arithmetic mean of the study results in a bachelor degree programme from the first to the penultimate semester, in which event, in case of the same values for several applicants, the order will be specified according to the results of the final state examination of the previous bachelor degree programme. They will be followed by applicants who passed the written entrance examination (see 1.4), namely in order based on the number of points obtained from the test. 1.8 The Highest Number of Applicants, Who May Be Admitted for the Follow-up Master Degree Programme N2301 Mechanical Engineering, Field of Study Applied Mechanics, Study in English The capacity of the individual fields of study specified by the guarantors are as follows: Field of study The highest number of students admitted Full-time study Combined study 3901T003 Applied mechanics 20 Not open 1.9 Admission Procedure Dates Deadline for submission of applications 31 July 2015 Entrance examination for applicants without exemptions 21 August 2015 Sending notification of admission procedure results by 28 August 2015 Enrolment in studies 31 August 8 September 2015 In the case of admission of candidates within the EU programmes, the admission procedure will be in accordance with the schedule of the particular programme. 1.10 Method of Assessment Absences at the Entrance Examination If the applicant cannot participate in the entrance examination for serious reasons, s/he is obliged to apologize in writing within ten working days after the date of the exam. If the apology is accepted, the applicant is informed as to a make-up entrance examination date. If s/he does not apologize or if his/her apology is not accepted, he fails to meet the basic condition for admission. Those candidates who have been granted the exemption from the entrance exam do not have to appear at the entrance exam. 1.11 Informing Applicants on the Admission Procedure Results The Dean of FS VŠB-TUO decides on the admission for the degree programme. The study officer sends information on admission results to the e-mail address of the applicant stated in the application form. The applicant will receive the official written decision on admission results within 30 days after the date of the entrance examination by personal registered delivery, sent to the applicant s address stated in the application form. The applicants have the right to view any of the materials that have a bearing on their admission to the study in the department for study affairs at FS of VŠB-TUO within 30 days of receipt of the decision on admission results. Copies of these materials are not provided. Written request for review of the decision is governed by Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education (Section 50 Subsection 7) and VŠB-TUO Admission Procedure Regulation.
