DIRECTOR S MESSAGE This training program conducted by the Department of Research is a two week residential program on Health System Research. This program is designed for Medical Officers who are already working in a health care setting and are willing to further evaluate and develop their work setting. The program also provides a strong foundation for developing as an operational or epidemiological researcher. Using a combination of face to face teaching, practical sessions as well as online sessions the HSR program provides a comprehensive curriculum on operational research. It takes a modern, interactive approach to the teaching and development of operational research skills, and combines traditional teaching methods with interactive webinars and online instructional study materials. I encourage you to participate in this innovative and interactive research training program Dr. L.T. Gamlath Director National Institute of Health Sciences Kalutara, Sri Lanka.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM Research is a systematic collection, analysis and interpretation of data to answer a specific question or solve a problem. Health System Research is a field of study that examines the organization, financing and delivery of health care services, and the impact of these services on health of a population. Thus, HSR plays an important role in the provision of quality health care to the public. During the two week training program, participants will be offered high quality hand on research methodology training. The course will cover all aspects of research methods from identification and prioritization of research problem to translating the research evidence into policy and practice. I encourage all young researchers to take this valued opportunity in developing their knowledge and skills on conducting research.
