1210 Annapolis Road Odenton, MD 21113 Phone: 410-674-4000 www.perrysrestaurant.com APR 2009 Volume 2, Issue 4 Spring is nature s way of saying, Let s party!. Robin Williams words couldn t have described the atmosphere at Perry s more appropriately; however, the partying at Perry s isn t exclusive to the spring season alone. Hand dancers who frequent Perry s on Thursday evenings have an uncanny knack of finding a multitude of reasons to celebrate just about every occasion and it s become a YEAR long party! April is all about adjusting to the new time change, facing the tax season, dragging out all the lawn furniture and putting down new grass seed and then doing a rain dance. The picturesque side of spring is the array of colors that transforms a dreary winter season into a canvas capturing the beauty of the cherry blossoms in DC to the forsythia and daffodils already in bloom. Well, as you ll see from the photos inside this issue, we had our own distinctive color pallet visible at Perry s during the month of March. 21 Luck of the Irish ~ There s just no denying it; Lee Carter has a lucky streak when it comes to being the recipient of a winning ticket at Perry s! Lee, who s winning raffle ticket made her the happy owner of the Winter Wonderland Basket back in December, also had the winning shamrock ticket on March 12 th. Her prize this time was a $25 Perry s gift card, compliments of Perry s management, and presented to Lee by Perry s General Manager, Kristos Miliotis. Was she wearing green that night? Nope, but Lee shown wearing a gorgeous green top on another Thursday evening apparently didn t need the additional luck! Wonder how she does at the slot machines? April Birthdays ~ Celebrate, party that s what we do best (besides dancing) and those Perry s hand dance regulars celebrating birthdays in April include: Herb Saffield, Peggy Morgan, Rick Hall, and Joan Rurka. If you ve never had a piece of Roland s bakery s (located in Chesapeake Beach) strawberry short cake, then you might want to drop by Perry s on Thursday, April 2 nd, wish Herb a Happy Birthday and savor a piece of this delicious cake. Jack s weekly email notifications will announce the date(s) of the remaining birthday celebrations. Spring in Your Step? You ll definitely have one if you re the winner of our Spring Basket. Raffle tickets will be sold on April 2 nd and April 9 th. The winning ticket will be drawn on Thursday evening, April 9 th. If Lee Carter s winning streak continues, I think we ought to rent a bus with a gambling destination and all follow her around! Mickie Moriarty Quotable Quote by Dr. Maya V. Patel ~ To dance is to give oneself up to the rhythms of ALL life.
Happy and successful cooking doesn t rely only on know-how; it comes from the heart, makes great demands on the palate and needs enthusiasm and a deep love of food to bring it to life. Regrettably, your editor did not author these words but Georges Blanc of Ma Cuisine des Saisons did and his take on food and love couldn t have described Perry s Chef, Jason Dinsmore, any better. There s a reason Jason is invisible in the main lounge on Thursday evenings he s in the kitchen preparing appetizers, main entrees and desserts to please the palates of all the hand dance patrons. Jason plays a vital role in our Thursday nights at Perry s and getting acquainted with this young man who possesses the know-how, cooks from the heart, and who brings his recipes to life, seemed only natural. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Jason s family moved to California when he was six years old. Returning to MD years later, Jason grew up in Severn, MD where he graduated from Old Mill High School. Additional educational pursuits included attending Culinary Schools in Pittsburgh, PA and San Francisco, CA. Asked when he started cooking, he responded by saying that at the young age of seven he was cooking bacon and eggs for his Mom. We re all familiar with the phrase, It s time to get out of the kitchen or in my case it s, Mickie we don t need you in the kitchen anymore!. So when Jason tears himself away from the kitchen at Perry s and his own kitchen at home, what does he do for relaxation or for that matter some excitement? Jason and his girlfriend, Cris, have a one-year old son named Gavin and are expecting their next bundle of joy in October. So in addition to working and parenting, Jason really enjoys outdoor activities such as mountain biking, swimming, and camping. After working in a hot kitchen, who wouldn t enjoy the outdoors? By the way, curiosity got the best of me and I had to ask Who does the cooking at home?. You guessed it, Jason admitted that he loves to cook for his family. Cris, you are one lucky lady! Their son, Gavin, is a bit too young to REALLY appreciate his dad s culinary talents but wait till he s a teenager and invites all of his friends over! Locations in MD, for example, Annapolis, Severna Park, and Pasadena, including a bakery in Pittsburgh, PA, have been places where Jason left his culinary mark. Creating his own recipes and incorporating different styles of cooking are Jason s trademarks. If you ve ever ordered, or tasted, his bread pudding with the most incredible sauce or his famous coconut custard pie with an enviable home made crust, you ll understand why I use the terminology Jason s trademarks. Jason has been a chef at Perry s for a combined total of five years and we hope for many more years to come. Asked if Thursday evenings presented a challenge for him, Jason responded by saying I really like the hand dancers because they love good food and I enjoy creating different specials for them.
