CITRUS HIGH SCHOOL VOLUME 30 ISSUE 27 APRIL1, 2015 MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR Citrus High Graduation May 19, 2015 7:00 pm Citrus High School Stadium Graduating Seniors need to arrive at the Cafeteria at 6:15pm on May 19th for Graduation. Senior Lunch May 7th 1130aa Sponsored by Herff Jones Senior Award Ceremony May 7th 6:00 to 8:00 pm Cafeteria Don t Forget There will be graduation practice and a senior cookout at the stadium/cafe on May 18th from 3-5pm. Both the cookout and practice are mandatory events. You will receive your graduation tickets after practice. Please meet in the Café by 3:00pm ~Obligations~ If you have an obligation, representatives will be available at the senior cookout to collect fines and/or items. If you have an outstanding obligation, you will not receive your tickets until it is paid in full or the item is returned. Baccalaureate May 17th 2pm First Baptist Church Graduation Practice/ Cookout May 18th 3:00-5:00pm CHS Stadium Graduation May 19th 7:00pm Each senior will receive 4 tickets for Graduation. The guests who enter the stadium with an Official CHS Graduation ticket will be permitted to sit in the designated area on the field. Two of the four tickets have Mr. Hilgert s Signature on the back. Due to space limitations, if it rains only the guests with signed tickets will be permitted to attend the Graduation Ceremony in the gym. PROJECT GRADUATION Project Graduation follows the graduation ceremony and is a safe, drug and alcohol free party for the Graduates of 2015. Project Graduation is organized, s p o n s o r e d, a n d chaperoned by Senior parents. While it is not a School or school district sponsored event, it is a long tradition, and a great opportunity for students to spend time with their fellow graduates. Students will depart immediately Graduation Photography SWI Photography will be in the gym lobby beginning at 5:15pm on the day of graduation to take pictures of seniors with their family and friends (for purchase). They will only be available until 6:10pm at which time all seniors should be heading to the Cafeteria. Professional photos will also be taken during the commencement exercises for purchase as well. Information sheets will be filled out by seniors at the graduation practice- by providing both your mailing and email address, you will receive you graduation proofs via email and by mail. following graduation (9:30pm) and will return to CHS at 3:00am the following morning. Important Senior Information! Baccalaureate The celebration honoring the class of 2015 will begin at 2:00pm on Sunday, May 17th at First Baptist Church of Inverness. This is a great opportunity to invite family and friends to come out and wish you well as you begin the next chapter in your life. Great photo opportunity too! Dress Code for Baccalaureate... WEAR YOUR CAP and GOWN Boys: Dress slacks, dress shoes, dress shirt (ties are optional for this event) Girls: Dress or skirt with a dressy top and dress shoes Chorus will be performing, as well as the Ovations. There will also be a Senior Video shown at the event. You won t want to miss it! Things to Remember Bring extra bobby pins and safety pins Tassel will be worn on the right side of the cap Writing on or decorating your cap is not permitted you may write your name inside your cap Gowns must be ironed and clean If you toss your cap after the ceremony it will be your responsibility to collect it. Lost caps will not be replaced **If you are interested in donating your cap/gown for a future graduate you can either drop it off when you pick up your diploma after graduation, or in the front office the week following graduation. THANK YOU! 2015 Graduation Speeches Thursday, April 10 Eligibility letters will go out to seniors in homeroom, ON THURSDAY, APRIL 10 TH. Monday-Thursday, April 14-17 Students may pick up packets from Mr. Harper in room 102 outlining guidelines. Monday, April 21 This is the deadline to submit to Mr. Harper in room 102. Monday, April 28 Finalists in each category will be announced. Audition times will be determined and information will be sent to finalists. Wednesday, April 30 Finalists will audition in Mr. Harper s room 102. The time will be determined. DRESS CODE FOR GRADUATION Boys: Black or Gray dress slacks, dark colored dress shoes, light colored dress shirt. Girls: Dress, black or grey dress pants, or skirt with a dressy top (small print, or solid colored) and dark dress shoes. If wearing a gold gown, you should wear a light colored dress with no print since print/patterns are visible through the gold gowns. Dress Code is NOT optional. You must follow the guidelines above. This is a formal ceremony and we want you all to look your best. PARENTS AND FRIENDS: We need your assistance to make graduation a day for our students to remember. Please help us out by not bringing air horns, silly string, beach balls, or anything else that will cause a distraction or take away the dignity of the ceremony. Also, please remember to turn off your cell phones. Let s work together to make this day special. Thank you for your support and understanding! We appreciate all that you do! SPECIAL NOTES TO ALL SENIORS: There will be NO silly string, air horns, beach balls, or anything else that may cause a distraction permitted at Graduation. You will be searched prior to walking on the field. Let s make this a memorable celebration for ALL. CONGRATULATIONS Class of 2015! If an Interpreter is needed? Attention Seniors: F FINAL TRANSCRIPTS WILL BE SENT OUT APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS AFTER GRADUATION UNLESS EOC SCORES ARE NECESSARY FOR CRED- IT TO BE RECEIVED FOR FINAL GRADES. IF EOC SCORES ARE NEEDED, TRANSCRIPT WILL BE SENT ONCE EOC SCORES AND CREDIT FOR COURSES ARE ENTERED. Art and Photography Show Junior / Senior Art and Photography show will be in the Old Courthouse Museum from April 21 st - May 1 st. We will have an opening reception on April 22 nd from 5-7pm. Relay for Life Event at the football field on May 8 th from 6pm to May 9 th at 6am. What Is Relay? Overnight community fundraising walk Teams of people camp out around a track Members of each team take turns walking around the track Food, games and activities provide entertainment and build camaraderie Family-friendly environment for the entire community Because it's a team event, individual participants are not required to be there the entire time. Counselor s corner DUAL ENROLLMENT If you re interested in taking college courses while you are still a high school student, Dual Enrollment (DE) may be for you. See your counselor for more information. The Priority Fall Application Deadline is April 30 and the Final Application Deadline is June 18 th. Please note that test scores from SAT or ACT will need to be received prior to the deadline. If you are seriously considering application for fall classes, we recommend that you take the PERT so you are guaranteed to receive test scores on time. NCAA Juniors and seniors who plan to participate in athletics for a Division I or Division II college or university need to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center at http://eligibilitycenter.org. At the end of the student s junior year, a transcript, which includes six semesters of grades, should be sent to the Eligibility Center from the high school. Additionally, students should have their SAT or ACT scores forwarded directly to the Eligibility Center (by using code 9999 ) whenever they take the exam. Parents and students may also view available scholarships on the Citrus High School website under the guidance tab. Please note that many of the scholarships have an April due date! Sponsorship Appreciated The time has come for seniors to begin preparing for graduation. There are many expenses involved in the graduation process, including a $75.00 (plus taxes and handling) graduation fee. This fee includes the cap and gown and other required graduation items. If you would like to sponsor a student in need, fully or partially, please contact Theresa Kelly at 726-2241. Bright Futures Application In order to be eligible for the Bright Futures Scholarship, students must complete: Initial Student Florida Financial Aid Application Available December 1st Starting December 1st, 2014 Bright Futures Scholarship candidates must complete the Initial Student Florida Financial Aid Application. Simply follow these procedures: www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org. From the above named website: 1. Select #1 OSFA Home Page 2. Select State Grants, Scholarships, Applications 3. Select Apply Here (in the blue tool bar at the top) 4. From the drop down selections click on Initial Student Application 5. Complete the application form (you will need your social security number and GPA). Check the information you ve typed for errors. 6. When finished click submit Starting January 1st, 2015 Bright Futures Scholarship candidates must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): Go to www.fafsa.gov to complete the online application. The Florida Department of Education is conducting a survey for parents of students who have an Individual Educational Plan (IEP), receive Exceptional Student Education (ESE) services and are currently attending a Florida Public School. The survey is open now through May 31, 2015. Please complete this survey at: http://www.esesurvey.com
