This guide will step you through the process of configuring your laptop and HiQnet TM London Architect TM to communicate with a network of Soundweb London devices. 1 Install London Architect Install the most current version of London Architect on the computer to be used for system control. You can download it from here: www.soundweb-london.com Do not open London Architect on the computer until Step 5. 2 Turn Off Windows Firewall a. Go to Control Panel from the start menu. b. Select Windows Firewall. c. Click Off (not recommended). d. You can turn this back on after the London session. e. Turn off any 3rd party firewall software (Symantec, MacAfee, Zone Alarm, etc.). 3 Setup Network Properties in Windows To setup Microsoft Windows network properties for use with London Architect: a. From the Start Menu select Network Connections Connect To and select Show all connections. b. Right click on the name of the network card to be used for connecting to the London network and scroll down the menu to Properties. bssaudio.com

c. Click on Internet Protocol TCP/IP. c d. Click on Properties. d e. Write down any existing IP and DNS address to be re-entered later. f f. Select Obtain an IP address automatically. g. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically. g h. Click on the Alternate Configuration tab. i. Write down any existing IP and DNS address to be re-entered later. j. Select Automatic private IP address. k. Click OK and close all windows. PAGE 2

4 Connect All London Devices Connect all of the London devices and the computer to the same network. 5 Start London Architect a. Watch for any warnings indicating program blocking by any Internet protection software and tell it to allow network access by London Architect. b. On the London Architect Main Menu Bar click on Tools then Application Preferences. b c. Select the HiQnet tab and add a check mark to the box in front of the network card you are using to connect to the London devices. d. Click OK. c d PAGE 3

6 Check Network Connections a. On the London Architect Toolbar click on View and select Network. b. A network window will open at the bottom of the screen. This list represents all HiQnet devices discovered on the network, sorted by type. This always represents your computer. This category represents devices in the open design that do not match any devices discovered on the network. c. Click the refresh button (green and red arrows). Network devices will start showing up on the network tree by their model and name. It can take up to 45 seconds for all devices to show up in this list. PAGE 4

7 Update the Device Firmware All devices MUST be running the same version of firmware that matches the version of London Architect being used. To update the firmware: a. In the Network Window, click on the icon shown below to open the firmware wizard. b. This will display a list of all the London devices discovered on the network. c. Make sure all the devices listed are checked and press the Load Button. It will take several minutes to load during which the devices may reboot several times. 8 Open the London Architect File You now need to open the London Architect design file for this network of devices. The design file must be located on the same computer used to connect to the system. If the system has previously been configured, the design file may have been stored on the London device network. a. Go to File and select Open or Open from device network. b. Select the desired file to load. 9 Configure Device Name and IP Settings Each device on the network will have to have its name changed to match the name of its corresponding device in the design. The Soundweb London devices default to Auto IP mode. In this mode they will recieve their IP addresses from a DHCP server if one is on the network. If there is no DHCP server, then the Device will choose an IP address in the 169.254.xxx.xxx subnet. On some networks you may need to set a unique static IP address for each device on the network so it will not conflict with other equipment on this network or to comply with the Network Administrator s requirements. PAGE 5

9 (continued) To change the name and IP address of a device: a. In the Network Window, open the device tree folders under the Ethernet category until you see the device name in red. If you are connecting to an existing system, the name may be black, indicating that this device already matches a device in the current file open in London Architect. b. Select the device you want to change. c. To find a device on the network, click the Locate Button in the Network Window. The Locate Button on the faceplate of that device will start to flash. You can also press the Locate Button on the device, which will cause the corresponding device in the software to flash. d. Open the device properties window. Here you can change the name, HiQnet Address and IP address of the selected device. When you click on each device in the Network tree, a property table with useful information such as the name, IP address and I/O card configuration is displayed on the right side of the Network Window. PAGE 6

9 (continued) e. The device will reboot after you press OK on the Modify Device Settings window. After reboot, the device will have the new settings. f. If there are green stars above each of the components in the design, then the design agrees with the Network components. If they do not, then check the name and I/O card configuration for each device on the network and make sure it matches the corresponding device in the design. Go back to step 5 to get the design and the network to match. Each device will get a green star, indicating that a device on the network matches in both name and I/O card configuration. Note: If you are connecting to a device for the first time you will get a message indicating that the HiQnet address of the device on the network does not match the HiQnet address of the device in the design file. It is recommended that you answer YES. This will update your program with the HiQnet address of the device on the network. If you save the file, it will be saved with this new information. If you answer NO, the address of the network device will be changed to match the design file. The HiQnet address can always be changed in the Device Properties dialog discussed in step 9d. PAGE 7

10 Load the London Architect File To load the file to the device network: a. Click on the Run Arrow in the Toolbar or the Online button at the bottom of the London Architect screen to go online and load the file into the network. b. If the current file is not the exact file running in the device, the Load window will appear and show which devices on the network need loading. This will overwrite the design currently in the device with the file open in London Architect. c. Press the green arrow to load the design and parameter settings into each device or press the green arrow at the top of the column to load all the devices. After loading is complete, press OK. d. As you change parameter settings while online, the system will respond in real time. The devices will retain their last settings whenever they are power cycled, always coming back in the same state they were when powered off. You will have to go offline to store the design file with any changes you have made. To go offline, press the Stop Button in the tool bar or press the Online Button at the bottom of London Architect. You can go back online by clicking the Run button again. If you are connecting to a network that is already running the same file you have loaded in London Architect, you will be prompted for device synchronization. You will have to choose if you wish to Receive Values (green arrow) or Send Values (red arrow) to the device. This is just the values of the state variables or controls of the design and should not be mistaken to mean you can receive the file from a London Device. Unless a file has been saved to the device network, there is no way to pull the design file out of a device to edit within London Architect. Make sure you have good file backups in place. PAGE 8
