our philosophy TE PITO O TE HENUA or MATA KI TE RANGI were the names given by the ancient Rapa Nui to their island. At this far end of the ocean, one of the inhabited locations furthest from any continent, its inhabitants gave life to a unique culture and defended the values of their native land, their KAINGA, to the death. The philosophy of Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa is grounded on the KAINGA concept that entails a profound respect for the Rapa Nui fatherland, which physically and spiritually nourishes the world that comes in contact with it. That respect moves us to care for its natural and cultural resources in the endeavor to contribute to their preservation and development for future generations of Rapa Nui. architecture The architecture of Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa pays homage to the Village of Orongo. Vestiges of that village can still be found on the western summit of the Rano Kau volcano. That is where the TANGATA MANU was chosen, the most important ceremony in the second period of the island. The village concept promotes a harmonic interrelationship between spaces, interwoven by a landscape design of native species where nature and construction blend. This is an integral tourism project based on an ecological, cultural and human sustainability and preservation over time. Each detail in the architectural design and the warm human service are intended to invite guests to be a part of an adventure where they will understand, admire, care for and preserve our land. Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa is a place where you find what it means to be human, where you find simplicity, the origins of man and the beauty of nature. It is an invitation to rejuvenate your soul while simultaneously gaining a respect for the nature and culture that surround us. It is an invitation to be both an active part and spectator of an age-old culture that continues alive.
