A State University Open to the Future Created by the Andalusian Parliament on July 1, 1997 (BOJA 76, July 3 rd and BOE 180, July 29 th ), law 3/1997, Pablo de Olavide University was conceived as an institution of higher learning which, by means of teaching, study and research, promotes the education of men and women of the future. As an instrument of social transformation, which orients and contributes to economic development and cultural and scientific progress of Andalusia, Pablo de Olavide University is totally integrated in the ensemble of Andalusian state universities, according to the Coordination Law of the Andalusian University System. Its academic and organizational structure allows it to meet the scientific, technical and cultural challenges today s society faces. It also allows it to offer appropriate solutions with the highest quality of teaching and research. The development of new technologies; the configuration of teaching based on a comprehensive curriculum; lines of research that are of top priority; the expansion of postgraduate activities, not only in its doctoral programs, but also in its specialized programs and professional recycling; the opening up of opportunities for international cooperation; and a participative and dynamic organisation are the lines of action that define the peculiarity and particularity of a University which is moving towards becoming a reflection of present society. It is the intention of this University to endow our students with high quality scientific training at all levels using the most suitable tools. However, one cannot disregard humanistic aspects which are inherent to 21 st century citizens, whose pressing mission is to reach a global understanding of current phenomena and to secure the best professional position and personal success. In this way, Pablo de Olavide University intends to be a permanent forum for discussion and reflection on the challenges of contemporary society, on culture both local and global, its past and its present, on the defense and promotion of Human Rights, on the world of communication, on respect for the natural environment, on biodiversity protection ; by means of conferences, round table discussions, expositions, publications, artistic manifestations, group workshops, and a long etc. University Services Library UPO s central library has 874 reading seats and 6 group work rooms for 72 people. At the present time, construction is underway so the surface area of the library will increase to 14,500 m 2 when the building is completed.
