Software Release Notice Rev A Tflex 4-2-1 ATS 6501 GPS Disciplined Rb ATS 6511 Dual Fiber Input Distribution Introduction This document provides information about release Tflex 4-2-1 of the software for Symmetricom s ATS 6501 and ATS 6511. The ATS 6501 and ATS 6511 units are shipped from the factory with software installed. The procedure in this document should be used only for reinstalling existing software, or for installing a software upgrade. Ensuring Hardware Compatibility This software release notice covers software for the following hardware models: ATS 6501-FR ATS 6501-DFR ATS 6501-FR-001 ATS 6511A-F ATS 6511B-F ATS 6501A-FR-S00 ATS 6501A-FR-S01 Computer Hardware A computer with an Ethernet connection and ability to obtain the ISO image from ftp://ftp.timing.com/pub/ats-6501 is required. If you do not have an SD flash card to update, please contact Symmetricom to obtain a new SD flash card with the new software version installed.
Available Documentation The following documents are provided to help you set up and configure your product: Software Release Notice (this document) User s Guide (available from the ftp://ftp.timing.com/pub/ats-6501 ftp site) Installation Procedures Note: The changes in this release may require a power cycle to be completely implemented. Please plan the update accordingly. Check the current version of the unit to be upgraded. If it has software version 3.9.10 or earlier, you must update the internal FTDI USB EEPROMS via the following instructions: 1. Remove all USB cables from the rear of the unit and power cycle the unit. The USB cables can be re-installed after the upgrade. The cables must be removed to allow correct reprogramming of the internal USB devices. 2. Program the internal devices by executing the appropriate scrip in the command line prompt after opening a telnet session with the unit s default port (23): flashftdi_6501.sh for ATS 6501-FR and ATS 6501-DFR flashftdi_6511.sh for ATS 6511A flashftdi_6511b.sh for ATS 6511B Please refer to Chapter 3.3.2 in the ATS 6501 User s Guide for instructions regarding installing and updating the software. Estimated Down Time If the unit that is being upgraded is operating properly, there will be approximately 3 minutes of system down time when the output signals are turned off during reboot after the new software has been installed. Estimate Installation Time Downloading takes approximately 5 minutes. The new software will begin to run without resetting the unit. If you decide to reset the unit for any reason, it could take up to 12 minutes to resynchronize.
Versions prior to tflex-3-9-10 will not support upgrade to this version. If the unit you are upgrading has software version prior to tflex-3-9-10, contact one of the persons listed below to obtain a new flash with this version.
What s New In This Release 1. This software has the same functionality as tflex-4-1-0, but uses the latest FreeBSD OS, version 8. 2. Fixes a rare 5071A status issue in tflex-4-2-0 if the communications cable is disconnected during a status query. 3. Closes FLL control loop only after waiting the appropriate amount of time to let the LNS settle after the FLL is opened due to intermittent loss of reference signal or an FLL open caused by a system glitch. Known issues 1. ATS 6511A units that need to be used in two way mode must have this version of software installed. You may use previous versions of software on the ATS 6511A if you continue to use a 4372A in the upstream ATS 6501. If you have a ATS 6511A unit that needs to be used in two way mode, the LNS FPGA must be reprogrammed by removing the top cover and using a JTAG dongle to reprogram the main PCBA FPGA. The upgrade of the ATS 6511A will change the delay of the unit by -1.2 ns, you will need to update the fiber delay settings following the upgrade. Contact one of the Symmetricom contacts listed below for assistance in performing the ATS 6511A upgrade. 2. TSC 4340Ax-xx units that need to be used in two way mode must have a firmware upgrade installed. Contact one of the Symmetricom contacts listed below for assistance.
