These are student friendly educational sessions that teach our students how to recognize and handle bullying, our second session of Bully Brave is coming up this week! Parents, now you too will have an opportunity to attend a session on Bullying specifically for PARENTS. Join us on April 18 at 7:00 p.m. to hear from the experts at Bully Brave as they share on topics such as conflict vs bullying, different types of bullying and how you can support your child whether they are the target or the aggressor. This promises to be a very informative session, and suitable for parents with students of ALL ages. Child care will be provided however we ask that you let us know in advance if you will be bringing your children. All parents who attend will also be credited TWO volunteer hours! See you there! In the next couple of weeks students will vote for their favourite book and we will submit the vote totals to the Forest of Reading to add to students' votes across Ontario. Results are published in May. The Forest of Reading program highlights Canadian literature www.accessola.com/forest/. A.R. (Grades 2-5): Goal 6 began March 19 and ends April 13. K-3 French Parents, have your children been singing French songs at home? We continue to practice greeting each other and making small talk. We are practicing the alphabet by spelling our names using the names for French letters. This week we will also talk a little about le Vendredi Saint et les Joyeuses Pâques. Grade 4 Using games, guided dialogues, online and written exercises. we will continue to learn how to hear, say, read and write the days of the week, parts of day, months, numbers and seasons. La Chanson de Tasse is our new memory work that is due every Monday. We practice in class, but students will also need to practice at home. Students have been given a paper schedule, but they are also encouraged to use the links on my web page for tutorials and further practice with <Les Tasses.> Grade 5 This week we continue to talk about les animaux en danger. While we learn the names of animals, we will continue to practice using ER verbs like habiter and manger, irregular verbs like avoir, etre, and adjectives. We will also learn some French words and a song related to our blessed Easter season (le Vendredi Saint et les Joyeuses Pâques). Grade 6 We had a great time last Thursday at the Kortright Centre while we learned a little more about le sirop d'érable (maple syrup). This week on Wednesday we will be making smoothies with "Incroyable Érable!" as one of our ingredients. We could use at least one parent helper in our classroom (1:20-2:15). We'd like each group of 4 students to have a blender, so if you are able to safely send along a blender to school, please let me know by email jsybersma@bramptonjkcs.org Grade 7 This Thursday, March 29 we will be going to Mountsberg Conservation Area for a French field trip to learn about le sirop d'érable (maple syrup). Plan to dress well for spending 2+ hours outside in the cool temperatures! We'll be leaving at 8:45 and returning at 1:30. A pancake lunch with a drink will be provided, but students should also take along a couple of snacks. Grade 8 Using various topics, this week we will practice talking about opinions using comparative and superlative (ex: good well, better, best) Junior Kindergarten - Mrs. Boschman sboschman@bramptonjkcs.org Hello from Junior Kindergarten! I am having trouble believing that it is already the last week of March and it is a busy one! Please check the classroom dojo page for reminders this week. On Monday we have a special presentation from the Region of Peel about waste reduction! The JK students have been doing their best to put garage and recycling in the right bin by looking at the pictures on the signs posted above each bin. Tuesday is our last evening of student-led conferences. It has been a wonderful experience to watch the students express their learning with big smiles on their faces and I am looking forward to watching the rest of the JK students experience this. I am a very proud teacher! Wednesday is a school wide dress up day! We are to come dressed as our favourite book characters! On top of all the special events going on this week we will be wrapping up our monthly academic units in Math, Language Arts and Social studies. We will also be tying in an Easter theme

Easter is almost here! There is a spirit of newness, refreshing, and peace that comes with spring and especially Easter. I'm so thankful for the cross and the sacrifice that Christ made on our behalf. What a wonderful Father. Here's a look at the week ahead... For Language, we will do a journal focusing on spring as well as some sight word booklets. We will also add more words to our word wall (had, say, must, soon) For Math, we will be comparing lengths and looking at forms of measurement. An anchor chart will be made as well. We will also continue to practice addition and use a number line to help us. We continue to talk about the Easter story during Bible time and will do a mosaic and watercolour art activity with this theme. On Tuesday it will be the first cookie sale! Cookies are $1.00. Wednesday is book character dress up day for the whole school. You can dress up as your favourite character from a book. On Thursday we will have our Easter assembly to close off the week. Math: We continue to work on Number Sense. We are doing some problem solving, skip counting, and learning whether to add or subtract when given a problem. Language Arts: This week we will be focusing on writing stories and reading in our small Guided Reading groups. We will also be riding the 'Reading Train'. I wonder where we will go? Social Studies: This week we will be starting our Project Based Learning unit. We will be focusing on endangered species in the jungle. There will be a letter coming home explaining this in more detail. Word Wall Words: There are no new words this week. Show and Tell: Group C (AeJah, Max, Rebekah, Jessi, Ben) has show and tell on Tuesday (that s tomorrow). Topic: Something to do with spring. Students should come prepared with three clues about their show and tell as well as three things they want to share about it. Scholastic: March orders were submitted last week and should arrive this week. Grade 2.3 - Ms. Wymenga mwymenga@bramptonjkcs.org Welcome to another busy week of learning, even though it is a short week! Here are some things to think about for the week ahead: Math: Grade 2 will be working through a Geometry unit, focusing in on symmetry. Every day both grades will continue to do 5 minutes of drill work on subtraction facts. Practising these facts at home will help students to work more accurately and quickly. Bible: We will begin hearing about the stories leading up to Christ s arrest, death and resurrection. AR Reading: We are now into our second week of Goal #6. Continue to encourage your child to read every day. Spelling: Due to a short week, there will be no new spelling words or test. Creation Studies: This week we will begin our projects on reptiles and amphibians of Ontario. We will become 'herpetologists' as we become an expert on one of these creatures. More information will be sent home today. Cookie Orders: Every Tuesday, cookies (triple chocolate chip or white chocolate fudge) will go on sale for $1. Funds will go to help out Josiebelle, our World Vision Sponsor child. Student Led Conferences: It was wonderful to see students speaking about their learning and their progress in learning. List B- costly, frosty, sleepy, bumpy, stormy List C- orderly, activity, probably, property, perfectly A.R. Reading: Remember to read each night. Math: We are working on a Data Management unit. Please sign and return the math test and quizzes that will come home today. Grade 4 - Ms. A. Kroezen akroezen@bramptonjkcs.org Math: We are wrapping up the measurement unit. We completed a review. The test will be on Thursday. Our next unit will be an introduction to division and learning the division facts and data management. At home, we still need to be practicing all the multiplication facts. This will be very helpful when we start practicing our division facts. We have assignments on mathletics.com that need to be completed at home before Thursday. Language Arts: Reading is thinking. We need to read every day to improve our reading stamina. We should be half-way to our AR goal by the end of the week. In class, we have finished reading the novel, Underground to Canada. We should have finished the questions. We are working on a culminating activity. It is due next Wednesday. Creation Studies: We continue our unit, First Nations of this Land. We are finishing up our research of the First Nations Groups and will be working on our celebration of learning. Bible: We will be focusing on the Easter story and beginning our study of King Saul. We will have a Bully Brave visit to the grade 5 class on Wednesday morning. A big thanks to all those who have handed in items and money for the Gala basket. There is still time to do so. Here is what we will strive to accomplish this week: Accelerated Reading: Today the second week of goal period 6. (Topping 2). I will be meeting with students today to try to ensure they are on track. An update will be sent home to sign later in the week. Literature: We continue on with, Because of Winn-Dixie we hope to progress to chapter 24-28. We will also do a story in our WOL unit, Growing and Changing. Math: We will continue on with Patterns and Algebra. We will should complete the book work by the end of the week and will have a small quiz on the unit on Wednesday April 4. PE: Badminton and Small-sided games. Spelling: This weeks activities and test will be lesson 16: Worldy Wise. It's a been a journey for students to reflect on their work through the year. Here is the news for our week: Math: Students are reminded to turn in their signed Measurement tests. We will continue in our unit on Patterns in Geometry. This is quite a short unit and our wrap up test will be next Tuesday, April 3. Language: Last week, students started creating their 'Profile Thumbprint'. Math: We re well into our unit on algebra basics. Daily assignments are given. Students are encouraged to continue reviewing their multiplication facts if they still have trouble recalling them. Language: We continue with our novel study of, I Am David. Students were given instructions for their next book report. They have a lot of time for it, but are encouraged to work on it regularly.
