Incorporated in 1999, this non-profit organization today represents more than 40,000 building trade workers and over 400 individual contractors. To pursue a career in the building trades, interested individuals may either apply through an apprenticeship program or meet special qualifications if they are currently a practicing journeyman. Generally, persons must: Be at least 18 years of age; Have a high school diploma or GED; Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license; Have suitable transportation; and Be drug free. Training is free and apprentices earn wages throughout the program. Like journeymen, apprentices also receive health care and other benefits.
