NECE - NETWORKING EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION NECE is an initiative for networking citizenship education in Europe. A variety of activities have been developed within its framework to encourage the organisation of contacts, co-operation and synergies in the field of citizenship education. NECE s chief goal is to promote the Europeanisation of citizenship education, and to contribute to the creation of a European general public. The aims of the respective activities are: to provide transparency about stakeholders and approaches of citizenship education; to inspire transnational discussions on the topics and challenges that citizenship education is facing; to bring together academics, practitioners in the field of citizenship education, and policymakers at the European level; to stimulate knowledge transfer and information exchange on good practices; to encourage European co-operation and projects; to raise awareness of the impact of citizenship education at the European level. NECE is not an institutionalised network, but a forum that allows the spectrum of stakeholders involved in citizenship education to interact with one another. Within the framework of NECE the Federal Agency for Civic Education co-operates regulary with European institutions active in the field of citizenship education. NECE ACTIVITIES Conferences Annual conferences are dedicated to issues of current interest, such as citizenship education in immigration societies. At these events different characteristics and interpretations of the topic are analysed and examined by a number of experts from a variety of fields. The transfer from theory to practice is then illustrated by examples of good practice, introduced in subsequent interactive modules. Workshops Several times a year, experts from academia and practice meet to discuss and prepare further events, projects or co-operation. Newsletter Three times a year, the Newsletter introduces players, stakeholders, organisations and projects in citizenship education in Europe. It provides insights into current professional debates, reports on important events, and offers information on interesting activities and publications. Database The database is designed to support successful networking across Europe. If you are looking for a partner organisation or an expert, you can easily find one among the more than thousand entities listed there. These are indexed by topic, country, type of organisation, and language skills, making it even faster and easier to find exactly what you are looking for. FEDERAL AGENCY FOR CIVIC EDUCATION (BUNDESZENTRALE FÜR POLITISCHE BILDUNG/BPB) The work done by the Federal Agency for Civic Education centres on promoting awareness for democracy and participation in politics. It takes up topical and historical subjects by issuing publications, by organising seminars, events, study trips, exhibitions and competitions, by providing extension training for journalists and by offering films and online products. The broad range of educational activities provided by the bpb is designed to motivate people and enable them to give critical thought to political and social issues and play an active part in political life. The bpb has a wide range of services on offer to teachers and anyone involved in education and youth work. It addresses young people directly by dealing with topics and using media that suit their age. It develops special media packages and advanced training activities for young people. The bpb applies modern methods of communication and makes cross-use of the media. It is facing up to the demands for rapid and well-founded information: It takes up topical social and political events and debates in the educational activities and special online products it offers. This ensures that anyone interested can acquire full information.
