Appendix 1 Exam Regulations Application for Reaccreditation for the Master degree: Master of Science in Electronic Business Faculty of Applied Computer Science University of Applied Science, Fulda

Exam Regulations for the degree in Electronic Business with the qualification of Master of Science from the faculty of Applied Computer Science at the University of Applied Science, Fulda, from 2006 1 Preamble The Master degree examinations for the degree in Electronic Business should confirm that the graduate has achieved specialised subject knowledge, and, in addition, has the ability to successfully deal with both practical and knowledge-based problems, as well as possesses the ability to develop and apply scientific knowledge and data. 1 Degree Aims, Academic Title (1) The degree aims are described in Appendix 1. (2) Upon successful completion of the Master examinations, the faculty of Applied Computer Science awards the academic title Master of Science (abbrev.: M.Sc. ). 2 Degree Duration (1) The degree lasts three semesters. A total of 90 ECTS points must be acquired within this time period. 3 Entry Requirements (1) The conditions for entry are an undergraduate degree with a minimum of 210 ECTS points at a recognised university in Computer Science or in a related subject which contains a suitable amount of Computer Science classes. In cases where the undergraduate degree only contained 180 ECTS points, an additional 30 ECTS points must be acquired. An average note of at least good must have been attained. In exceptional cases e.g. where the applicant can demonstrate a successful career applicants may be admitted with a worse grade. (2) As all the classes in the first semester are taught in English, the applicant must have a sufficient level of English (3) Applications are dealt with by a selections committee. The details regarding the selection process are decided in accordance with a guideline decided upon by the faculty council in coordination with the examination office and the student secretariat. 4 Master Thesis (1) The Master thesis has a total weighting of 30 ECTS points and consists of a Master Thesis and a colloquium. (2) The time allowance for the Master thesis is six months. The first examiner for the thesis must be a professor from the faculty of Applied Computer Science. (3) The student presents the results of their Master thesis in the colloquium. The colloquium also serves to guarantee that the thesis is the independent work of the student. (4) The colloquium is led by the two examiners and graded. The examination committee can replace one of the examiners by an examiner, who is also a

professor for the faculty of Applied Computer Science. Colloquiums are only given to students who achieve a minimum grade of acceptable for their Master thesis. 5 Modules (1) The degree contains the modules MEB 1 to MEB 13. (2) The structure of the curriculum is described in Appendix 2. Each module and its characteristics in particular the contents, form of examination, type of classes, number of ECTS points, as well as the necessary prerequisites are described in Appendix 3. 6 Grading of the Modules (1) All modules are graded. (2) The grade given for the Master thesis comprises of the grades of the Master thesis and the colloquium, where the grade from the thesis is given a weighting of four and the grade from the colloquium a weighting of one. (3) Notwithstanding paragraph (2), the module MEB 13 (Master thesis) is always given a grade of not acceptable when either the Master thesis or the colloquium are graded with not acceptable. 7 Absence, Withdrawal, Cheating (1) Students who take part in an examination, despite illness or limitations on their ability to perform to their best standard, and who, therefore, consciously take the risk of failing, are not allowed to dispute the grade they are given on the grounds of their limited ability to perform. (2) In cases where a student is awarded a grade of not acceptable due to cheating or the usage of illegal aids, the examination office and examinations committee will be notified. (3) At the second attempt of cheating or the usage of illegal aids to influence an examination, the student will be given a fail in the relevant examinations. It is irrelevant whether the deception or cheating occurred in the same or in a different examination. (4) Students from the faculty of Applied Computer Science who help other students to cheat or to use illegal aids can, in the worst cases, face removal from the university. The decision lies with the examinations committee. 8 Module Resits, Examinations taken early (Freiversuch) (1) Modules that are passed by students cannot be repeated. (2) The MEB 13 module (Master thesis) can only be repeated once. (3) The modules MEB 1 to MEB 12 can be repeated a maximum of two times. For the first module examination, when the second resit is graded with less than acceptable, the following exception from (1) is applicable: The second resit can be extended with an oral examination. If the candidate can prove the minimum amount of knowledge to pass then the module will be graded with acceptable.

(4) A resit, or the additional oral examination, must be taken within twelve months of the initial examination being taken. (5) Should (4) not be adhered to, the resit or additional oral examination will be failed, unless the student is not accountable for the delay. It is the student s responsibility to give credible reason for missing the deadline in writing to the examinations committee. In cases of illness, a Doctor s note should be presented. If the reasons are acknowledged, the resit or oral examination should be rearranged for as soon a date as possible. (6) Notwithstanding (3) to (5), the module examinations MEB 1 to MEB 6 which were taken on the first sitting and were failed are classed as not taken if they were taken in the first semester; on top of this, the module examinations MEB 7 to MEB 12 which were taken on the first sitting and were failed are classed as not taken if they were taken in the first or second semester. In cases where more than one examination was not passed in accordance with (1), the student decides which of these examinations should be classed as the first failed examination. The choice should be given to the examination office to be put on record. 9 Admission to Examinations (1) The conditions of entry for the individual module examinations are described in the module descriptions (see Appendix 3). Students who have successfully passed all the modules MEB 1 to MEB 12 may take the Master thesis module. Students who have not passed a maximum of two modules from MEB 1 to MEB 12 may be allowed to take the Master thesis module, should the examinations committee support an application for a premature entry. The application must be given on time and be justified. (2) It is only possible to take part in examinations when a written registration form has been given to the examination office. The binding time period for registration is displayed on notices. 10 Master Thesis Examination, Composition of the Final Grade (1) The Master thesis examination is passed when all modules have been awarded a minimum of acceptable. (2) The final grade is the total of all the module grades, where the module MEB 13 (Master thesis) is given a weighting of six and the grades from the modules MEB 1 to MEB 12 are each given a weighting of one. 11 To Become Effective (1) These Examination Regulations come into effect in 2006.
