APPENDIX A Summary List of SIC, SOC80 and SOC91 Codes This appendix contains a summary list of the 1980 Standard Industrial Classification (SIC), the 1980 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC80) codes and the 1991 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC91) codes, showing the major groups and the groups and classes within each major group. The lists have been reproduced from the three catalogued publications of Statistics Canada: Standard Industrial Classification, 1980 (cat. #12-501) Standard Occupational Classification, 1980 (cat. #12-565). Standard Occupational Classification, 1991 (cat. #12-565E). For more details on the industries or occupations included in any code, or the correct code for an industry or occupation, please see these publications. SIC codes were assigned to the 3-digit level. The range of values was 000 to 999. To allow for unique and consistent coding, the SIC was expanded to 4 digits to accommodate for a valid skip code of 9996. The range of values is now 0000 to 9999.
