Getting Started About WHAT YOU OWN HOME INVENTORY SOFTWARE WHAT YOU OWN (WYO ) HOME INVENTORY SOFTWARE will help you create a room-byroom inventory of your personal possessions. Having an up-to-date home inventory will help you: Purchase enough insurance to replace the things you own. Get your insurance claims settled faster. Substantiate losses for your income tax return. You can always simply make a list in a notebook and save receipts and photos in a file. This software, however, should make this task fun and simple. More importantly, with the click of your mouse, you can update this list as you buy or eliminate personal possessions. WYO HOME INVENTORY SOFTWARE offers the following standard features: Have absolute user privacy (data and email) Create and manage large inventory files Organize items by rooms and categories Add and preview multiple images and receipts for items, rooms and household Find what you are looking for with a full text search Open and continue working with.xii and.iii file types Attach JPG, PDF, XLS and DOC files Use flexible International address and currency input Create custom printable reports Export to PDF Keep an extra copy of your inventory file in paper or electronic format away from your home in case something happens to your computer. Download and Install the Software To purchase and download the software, visit our website at http://www.whatyouown.com. Once you have purchased the software, you will be prompted to download and install it. The serial number will be emailed to you as part of the purchase process. Activate the license to begin using the software. Page 2

The installation process creates an icon on your computer s desktop for easy startup. Home Inventory WYO HOME INVENTORY SOFTWARE will help you create a room-by-room inventory of your personal possessions. Creating your home inventory is made up of these basic steps: 1. Create an inventory project. 2. Add rooms to the inventory project. 3. Add items to each room. For any project, room, or item, you can add images or attachments. You can add scanned receipts for any item. Once you have created your home inventory, you can continue to make updates to keep the inventory of your possessions current. Create an Inventory Project To create an inventory project, follow these steps. 1. From the home screen, click the New button. Page 3

Note: You can also create a new inventory project from the file menu. From the File menu, select New. 2. Give your inventory project a name. Select a different file location for the inventory project if desired. Page 4

3. Click the Next button to continue. Page 5

4. Enter the information about your inventory project. 5. Click the Next button to continue. 6. Enter the insurance information for your inventory project. 7. Click the Next button to continue. Page 6

8. Enter any additional notes. 9. Click the Next button to continue. 10. Add images to your inventory project as follows. a. From the Images tab, click the Add button to add an image. Page 7

b. Select the desired image. c. Click the Open button to continue. The image has been added to your inventory project. Follow the same process to add additional images. 11. Add attachments to your inventory project as follows. a. Click the Attachments tab. b. Click the Add button. Page 8

c. Select the desired file and click the Open button to continue. The attachment has been added to your inventory project. Follow the same process to add additional attachments. 12. Click the Finish button to complete the process to add an inventory Project. You have just created your inventory project. Remember to save your inventory project file. Save an Inventory Project Remember to save your inventory project file as you update it. Note: WYO files have the file extension.xii. To save the inventory project file, click the Save icon from the menu. Page 9

Note: You can also select Save or Save As from the File menu. Important! Keep an extra copy of your inventory file in paper or electronic format away from your home in case something happens to your computer. Update Inventory Project Information You may need to update your inventory project information: for example, if you change insurance providers. To update the information, follow these steps. 1. From the home screen, click the Open button. You can also select Open from the File menu. 2. Navigate to and select your inventory project. Page 10

3. Click the Open button. The home screen displays your inventory information. 4. Click the Edit icon. 5. Make the desired changes on each screen, then click the Next button. 6. You can delete an image or attachment as follows. a. Select the image or attachment that you want to delete. b. Click the Delete button. 7. Click the Finish button to complete the updates. Remember to save your inventory project file. Page 11

Rooms Once you have created your inventory project, add the rooms that will be included in your inventory. Add a Room To add a room, follow these steps. 1. From the home screen, click the +Room button. 2. Type the name of the room and any notes. 3. Click the Next button to continue. Page 12

4. Add images for the Room as follows. a. From the Images tab, click the Add button. b. Navigate to and select the desired image to attach. c. Click the Open button to attach the image. The image has been added to the room. Follow the same process to add additional images. 5. Add attachments to the room as follows. a. Click the Attachments tab. b. Click the Add button. Page 13

Note: The type of files shown that you can select from on the Add Attachment screen defaults to Adobe PDF. c. To select another file type, click the down arrow to view and select a list of other file types. Page 14

d. Select the file and click the Open button. The attachment has been added to the room in your inventory project. 6. Click the Finish button to complete the process to add a room to your inventory project. Follow the same process to add additional rooms to your inventory. Page 15

Note: At this point you could add the items to this room prior to adding the next room. Page 16

Update Room Information You may need to update room information: for example, if you sell or purchase items. To update the information, follow these steps. 1. Select the room on the home screen, and click the Edit icon. 2. Make the desired changes on each screen, then click the Next button. 3. Click the Finish button to complete the updates. Remember to save your inventory project file. Delete a Room You may need to delete a room from your inventory, for example, if you no longer have possessions in the room that you want to include in the inventory. To delete a room, follow these steps. 1. From the home screen, click the Room icon. 2. Confirm the delete by clicking the Yes button. Click No to cancel the delete. Important! When you delete a room, you will also be deleting all of the items in the room. Page 17

Donation Room WYO HOME INVENTORY SOFTWARE allows you to add items you wish to donate to a special Donation Room. You can use this information to record donations for tax purposes. The Donation Room is created automatically when you add a new inventory project. To add items to this room, select the room and add items as you would for any other room. Note: You can also add items already in your WYO inventory. Follow the instructions to Move an Item to the Donation Room. Page 18

Items Once you have created your inventory projects and rooms, add items to your inventory for each room. Add an Item To add an item to a room, follow these steps. 1. From the home screen Browser tab, select the desired room. 2. Click the +Item icon. 3. Enter the information for the item you are adding. 4. Add Date information by highlighting the month, day, or year and clicking the up or down arrow. Note: You can also click the Calendar icon to select the date from a monthly calendar. Page 19

5. Select the Category from the drop-down list. Note: If you do not see the category you want in the drop-down list, you can add a category from the Edit menu. 6. Once you have completed the desired information, click the Next button to continue. 7. Add images for the Item as follows. Page 20

a. From the Images tab, click the Add button. b. Navigate to and select the desired image to attach. c. Click the Open button to attach the image. The image has been added to the item. Page 21

Follow the same process to add additional images. 8. Add receipts for the item as follows. a. From the Receipts tab, click the Add button. b. Navigate to and select the desired receipt. Note: The file type of the receipt must be in a graphic format. If your receipt is in a file format such as PDF, use the Attachment option instead. c. Click the Open button to add the receipt to the item. Page 22

The receipt has been added to the item. Follow the same process to add additional receipts, such as receipts for repairs to the item. 9. Add attachments for the item as follows. a. From the Attachments tab, click the Add button. Page 23

b. Navigate to and select the desired attachment. c. Click the Open button to add the attachment to the item. The attachment has been added to the item. Follow the same process to add additional attachments for the item. 10. Click the Finish button to complete the process to add an item to a room for your inventory project. Page 24

Continue this process until you have added all desired items to the room in your home inventory project. Page 26

Update Item Information You may need to update item information: for example, if you have had to repair an item. To update the information, follow these steps. 1. From the home screen, select the room, then the item and click the Edit icon. 2. Make the desired changes on each screen, then click the Next button. 3. Click the Finish button to complete the updates. Remember to save your inventory project file. Delete an Item You can delete an item from the inventory if you no longer have it in your inventory. 1. From the home screen, select the room, then the item and click the Delete icon. 2. Click the Yes button to delete the item from the inventory. Page 27

Move an Item to the Donation Room You can easily move an item that you have or wish to donate to charity to the Donation Room. 1. From the home screen, select the room, then the item and click the Move to Donation Room icon. 2. Click the Yes button to move the item to the Donation Room. The item will now appear in the Donation Room. Move an Item to Another Room You may have an item that you added to one room, but have moved it to another. To change the room an item is in, follow the instructions to Update Item Information. 1. From the drop-down menu, select the room to which you are moving the item. 2. Click the Next button. Page 28

3. Click the Finish button to complete the updates. The item and its associated images, attachments, and receipts will show up in the new room. Page 29

Sort Items You can sort items to view them alphabetically, by price, or by date. Use the Sort Items options at bottom left of the home screen. You can also sort items from the View menu. Page 30

View your Inventory The Browser view allows you to view your inventory in a hierarchical view. From here, you can select a room, then view the items in each room. Page 31

You can also view your inventory in the Categories view. From here, you can see all items in a particular category, no matter which room they are located in. Click the Categories tab to see this view. Page 32

Search WYO HOME INVENTORY SOFTWARE allows you to search for any item in your inventory. 1. From the home screen, click the Search icon. Note: You can also select Search from the Edit menu. 2. Type all or part of the name of the item you are looking for, and click the Find button. Print WYO HOME INVENTORY SOFTWARE allows you to print a variety of reports: Household Summary Detailed Inventory by Room Detailed Inventory by Category Images Receipts For each report, you have the following print options: Print: send the report to your printer Preview: preview the report before you print it PDF: generate a PDF file of the report. To run a report, follow these steps. 1. From the home screen, click the Print icon. Note: You can also select Print from the File menu. 2. Select the report(s) you wish to run and click the desired print option button. Page 34

Your report will be generated in the requested format. Page 35

Set a password WYO HOME INVENTORY SOFTWARE allows you set a password on your inventory. 1. From the Project menu, select Password, then Set Password. Page 36

Help To get help using the software, click the help link at the bottom left of the home screen. This takes you to the support page of the WYO website where you can find support information. You can check for updates to your software version. From the Help menu, select Check for updates. Page 38

WYO To visit the WYO HOME INVENTORY SOFTWARE website, click the WYO link at the bottom left of the home screen. This takes you to the home page of the website. Exit WYO When you are done working with your inventory, save your inventory project. To exit WYO HOME INVENTORY SOFTWARE, select Exit from the File menu. Page 40
