Castille Salary Benchmark 2013 Financial, IT & Senior Talent www.castilleresources.com Affiliate Member
Introduction The Castille 2013 Salaries Benchmark surveyed over 2,500 positions across the sectors of Banking, Insurance, Corporate Services, Fund management and administration, Software houses, igaming and Telecoms. Our salary tables are used as a reference point for employers who are looking to attract and retain human capital. Despite the lingering Euro Crisis and economic uncertainty further afield Malta has shown resilience and robust employment activity throughout 2012. So far, indications for the next financial year seem positive with more than 80% of companies surveyed having plans to grow their headcount in the next 12 months and 41% of respondents expecting their payroll costs to increase by 5-10% over the same period. Growth in front office activity cited in our report last year is still trickling in for the funds business however there seems to be good progress being made in other areas such as insurance and forex. Middle and back office continues to generate good employment growth with market risk, compliance and accountancy (from technicians to newly warranted levels) remaining the most sought after skills. From a technology perspective, employers experienced problems in recruiting software developers at the intermediate level in areas such as Java and PHP, while demand for people with experience in business intelligence, business analysis and software testing (automated) exceeded supply. The feedback we receive from employers on the quality of our local human resources remains favourable with 67% of respondents rating the national workforce as excellent and a further 25% considering quality as being fair. Based on the above we remain cautiously optimistic on the employment outlook in Malta for 2013. As always I wish to thank those who have contributed to this publication. Should you require any specific advice on salaries or skills availability, then please contact us directly. We wish our readers a rewarding 2013. This applies across industries and disciplines, and in particular to eskills, which are in continuous evolution in line with technology innovations and the integration of technology tools within business functions. In recognition of this, Government is making available a tool which describes the various eskills specialisations in an industry-supported language which is also internationally established. This language was utilised in this Salary survey by Castille Resources in describing a number of ICT roles in its questionnaires to participating companies. By using this tool, firms can benefit from bringing to the fore both the visible and invisible stock of competences within their business. This management information can enable a company to create more effective teams, execute objective recruitment and appraisal programmes, and/or focus the professional development budget into promising areas for new business growth.
