HOW TO STOP KILLING THE BIOLOGICAL ACTION IN YOUR SEWER SYSTEM Many household products contain chemicals that will kill bacteria. However, your sewer system depends on a healthy bacteria population to keep it functioning properly. Routinely using products that kill germs may result in EXPENSIVE problems. These problems always occur at the worst possible time and include things like backups and foul odors. Whether your system gives you endless problems or years of trouble free service is determined greatly by what YOU put into your system. Unless you are a chemist, how can you know which ingredients are bad for your system? Furthermore, some products state Will not harm your plumbing may not hurt the drain system, but may be very detrimental to the bacteria IN your sewer system! For these reasons the makers of BIO-SMART have done the research for you. Simply look for products you currently use. If they are in the Not Recommended column, switch to a product in the Recommended group. Often you won t have to switch brands since many brands have formulas in both columns. When there is more than one formula, the formula name will be listed in parenthesis after the brand name. NEVER FLUSH THE FOLLOWING! Things like disposable diapers, bones, sanitary napkins, condoms, cotton swabs, dental floss, tampons, tampon applicators, coffee grounds, plastic band-aids, bandage wrappers, hand/infant wipes and cigarette butts WILL NOT BREAK DOWN. Throw them in the trash. Otherwise they accumulate in your sewer system. You must then spend money for cleaning out the sewer system. Excessive grease can congeal in the sewer lines. The piping may accumulate a layer of solid fat, which cannot be readily broken down by bacterial action. Grease should be treated as garbage and kept out of piping whenever possible.

~ Automatic Dishwasher Detergents ~ Amway Electrasol Tabs Shaklee Basic D Shoppers Value Lemon Fresh Wave Gel NOT All Cascade (powder/gel) Electrasol (powder/gel) Palmolive (gel) Sun Light ~ Dishwashing Liquids ~ Many brands are now available in a regular and an anti-bacterial formula. Obviously the anti-bacterial products are NOT. *In fairness to NOT products: Rarely will any one brand knock out your system. Unfortunately most people use MANY products with sanitizing action. This not only increases the Quantity of anti-bacterial chemicals, but sometimes results in reactions between the chemicals that form substances even worse than the original ingredients. NOTE: It would be impossible to list all available products. This is intended to cover major brands and give examples. You should also recognize that companies are constantly changing formulas. ~ Laundry Detergents ~ Space does not allow us to list all the nationally advertised brands. Fortunately, most are now compatible. The most desirable are those in which ALL the ingredients are biodegradable, not just the surfactants.
