1 College of Medicine Graduation and Retention Data As the College of Medicine s MD, MPH and combined programs like the MD/PHD and MD/MPH programs vary in length, graduation and persistence rates have been combined and labeled as Retention Rates in the tables below. The following formula was used to calculate the rates as it takes into account instances when students transfer between SUNY Upstate s graduate programs: [AS + GR ] / [IN-LA TI+TO] Where: AS = Number of Active Students that are on schedule to complete their degree within 150% of program time GR = Number of students that have graduated on time IN = Number of students that matriculated into the program TI = Number of students that transferred IN from another graduate program within SUNY Upstate Medical University TO = Number of students that transferred OUT of the program and into another graduate program within SUNY Upstate Medical University WD = Number of students that Withdrew from the program DI = Number of students that were Dismissed from the program MD-MDCN Matric. 3 PROGRAM SPECIFIC DATA Master of Public Health Practice and Policy (MPH) Measures of student achievement 3 The College of Medicine has recently undergone the accreditation process. For more information and their Self-Study data, please refer to: Employment or placement after graduation To date, the program has graduated 25 students with an MPH degree. Out of 25 students, 22 were contacted for an alumni internet survey. Sixteen out of these 22 alumni responded to the survey for a 73% response rate. Forty percent of our graduates were employed within one year of degree completion; 48% decided to pursue additional education; and 12% are lost to follow-up. 4 Doctor of Medicine (MD) Performance on Licensing and Certification Exams STEP 1 The USMLE Step 1 is the first part of the United Stated Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) that ensures mastery of not only the sciences that provide a foundation for the safe and competent practice of medicine in the present, but also the scientific principles required for maintenance of competence through lifelong learning. 7 Mean Scores USMLE Step 2 Clinical Knowledge Performance STEP 3 The USMLE Step 3 Exam is the final examination in the USMLE sequence leading to a license to practice medicine without supervision. The examination material is prepared by examination committees broadly representing the medical profession. The committees comprise recognized experts in their fields, including both academic and non-academic practitioners, as well as members of state medical licensing boards. Step 3 content reflects a data-based model of generalist medical practice in the United States. The test items and cases reflect the clinical situations that a general, as-yet undifferentiated, physician might encounter within the context of a specific setting. Step 3 provides a final assessment of physicians assuming independent responsibility for delivering general medical care
