3 University of Miami s Graduate Programs in Public Health are accredited by the Council of Education for Public Health (CEPH) to develop leaders who will advance our knowledge of public health and translate that knowledge to create healthier communities. Based in South Florida one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse regions in the world we provide unparalleled opportunities for research, training and community service. The mission of the Graduate Programs in Epidemiology and Public Health is to develop leaders who can translate knowledge into policy and practice to promote health and prevent disease in human populations. PUBLIC HEALTH RESEARCH Our students and faculty investigate the epidemiology of different diseases and apply real-world prevention and intervention strategies to improve population health. These hands-on opportunities, along with a unique interdisciplinary collaboration with University of Miami graduate programs, set our Masters of Public Health programs apart.

According to the 2007 Institute of Medicine report The Future of the Public s Health in the 21st Century, 250,000 public health workers will be needed by 2020 in order to meet the world's healthcare needs. 5 Master of Public Health (45 credits) CORE CURRICULUM (18 credits) EPH Medical Biostatistics I EPH Medical Biostatistics II EPH Health Education and Behavior EPH Fundamentals of Epidemiology EPH Environmental Health EPH Public Health Administration AREAS OF FOCUS (21 credits) Students can choose coursework in one or more of the following areas: Biostatistics Environment and Public Health Epidemiology and Population Health Sciences Health Services Policy and Research Prevention Science and Community Health THE CAPSTONE EXPERIENCE (6 credits) The Capstone Experience builds on students academic and professional interests so they can advance in public health careers. It gives students real world experiences in health-related settings domestically or abroad and provides an opportunity to apply academic theory and acquired skills to community health problems.

6 Dual Degree Programs MEDICAL DOCTORATE/ MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH The MD/MPH program offers an innovative four year curriculum that integrates MD and MPH coursework and provides an innovative opportunity to combine clinical and public health education. JURIS DOCTORATE/ MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH The JD/MPH program allows students to combine public health study with training for a career in health law, health policy or a related field. Students can complete requirements for both degrees over the course of an intensive threeand-a-half year period. MASTER OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION/ MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH The MPA/MPH program is designed for students seeking in-depth knowledge of public health with training in management and public policy administration. MASTER OF ARTS IN INTERNATIONAL ADMINISTRATION/MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH The College of Arts and Sciences MAIA/MPH program is designed for students who wish to combine public health training with a broader education in globalization and health, international health policy, and international development. Students enrolled can expect to complete both degree requirements within three years. Page 7

Training to think at the individual, local, and global level. As a public health graduate student, I visited the remote island of San Blas, Panama.
