1 STEM PROGRAM SUMMARY DRF (DRF) partners with K-12 schools and community organizations to develop an Electric Energy - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Program where students participating will be identified as Junior Smart Energy Managers (JSEM). The program combines SCORE Program opportunities, the Sustainable Schools Program, and an Electric Energy STEM Program to: develop an Electric Energy Mini Lab consisting of Power Generators (Renewable Energy Models), and Models (Smart Grid models), and Devices; implement energy management software to provide real-time usage data from the facility s smart meter and; encourage usage of science and technology through interactive learning. This STEM Program will also provide and support the kids views into careers such as Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Computer Engineering (CE), Civil Engineering (CIE) and Energy Market Management & Efficiency (EME). As an energy efficiency measure, under the SCORE and sustainable School Programs, DRF edu-
2 Electric Energy STEM STEM Program / Mini / Lab Lab BACKGROUND Established in 2007, DRF (DRF) is a private Texas based consulting firm, specializing in Relations Management, Community Engagement, Convening Facilitation, Project Management and Consumer Education. DRF is a City of Houston Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), a certified member of the Houston Minority Supplier Diversity Council, and a Texas Historically Underutilized Business (HUB). The leadership team is led by Dr. Robert Ford who serves as President and Chief Executive Officer with over 40 years of educational experience and Darrell Ford, who serves as Chief Operating Officer with over 25 years of business experience and over 10 years of experience in the utility industry. DRF partners with Government Agencies, Universities, K-12 Schools and K-12 focused organizations, Housing Authorities, Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and their clients to educate and train organizations on energy industry regulations, consumer benefits, and industry practices that impact communities. DRF Industries established the K-12 Electric Energy STEM Program to bridge the ever-widening gap in energy industry knowledge and interest. Our mission is to foster a renewed interest in science and technology for youth who may be otherwise underserved in this area. Through practical application and individualized attention, youth will be provided with hands-on experience and realworld examples that will not only help them as they make career decisions, but will provide useful information that can be used in day to day living.

4 STEM PROGRAM OPTIONS DRF Industries STEM Program is completely customizable based on individual need and preference. For example, you may want a 2-week Summer Program, a 4-week Summer Program, a 6-week After School Program, or a 1-2 hour per add-on to an existing science class/program it is completely up to you. DRF Industries STEM Program can be implemented in any number of ways; such as: Obtaining Financial Sponsorship for your STEM effort Supplying the STEM kits only Setting up the STEM Program Supplying STEM Training to the Teachers Supplying the staff and executing the STEM program DRF will work with you to add STEM to your existing program or provide a STEM program that covers only those areas you want to implement.
5 Grid System Energy Competition First, students will reduce their energy use, energy cost and develop sustainable strategies on their campus. The campus will receive an energy gateway device, that will be pared to the facility s smart meter. A lead team/club will be identified and educated in all areas of this Smart Energy STEM Program. Second, students will reduce energy use and cost at their home by using smart energy manager skills they develop from the program. This competition will be based on a individual and team bases. Meet to identify partners and to discuss roles and contributions (kits, equipment, devices, and software), and benefits.
