3 Addition of a Child Concentration within the Doctoral Program (Psy.D.) School of Professional Psychology The SOPP faculty has approved the designation of specific courses to meet the requirements for a Child Concentration within the doctoral program (Psy.D.). The Concentration does not increase the total number of credits required for the doctoral program. Rather, the Child Concentration courses fall within the 6-course elective option for students. The courses that are required within the Child Concentration are available as electives for all other students. Two of the required courses for the Child Concentration replace courses that are required in the general curriculum. The new courses have already been submitted to the Graduate Policies Committee for approval. The required courses for the Child Concentration are: PSI 9180 Child Assessment [replaces PSI 8130 Introduction to Projective Assessment] 3 PSI 9440 Child Psychotherapy [replaces PSI 8430 Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies] 3 PSI 9510 Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics I 3 PSI 9540 Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics II 3 PSI 9520 Family Therapy [already an elective in the general curriculum] 3 TOTAL CREDITS 15 Page 3 of 16
4 School of Professional Psychology Psy.D. and Psy.M. Degrees Course Equivalency Table Introduction: The curriculum for the Psy.D. doctoral program in SOPP is composed of formal coursework, practicum and internship training, and dissertation. The coursework in the curriculum is conceptualized within seven competency areas. On the following pages, we present an overview of the quarter to semester equivalency information for the entire doctoral program. The next page provides an overview of the equivalency information for the entire doctoral program, including information on the number of courses (quarters and semesters) and the number of credits (quarters and semesters). On the next several pages, each of the competency areas is described in more detail, along with information on practicum and internship training and the dissertation. Changes to the curriculum are noted in each table. The last two pages of this document include equivalency information for the Psy.M. degree, which is best viewed as a degree offered en route as the students matriculate through the doctoral program. That is, the Psy.M. degree does not have separate admissions requirements and is not marketed as a terminal degree. 1 Page 4 of 16
