2 Programme Structure The MACG is a professional degree comprises 42 academic units (AUs), in which you have to: attend 11 courses, complete 2 practica and, write a dissertation.

3 Programme Structure The 11 courses (10 core and 1 elective) have been identified as the essential competency areas for counsellors by Council for the Accreditation of Counselling and other Related Educational Programmes (CACREP).

6 Content Upgrade Course Content Upgrade Course will be conducted by Psychological Studies Academic Group during the rd week of September It will be a 2-day workshop on microcounselling skills and process. Students required to attend the content upgrade course have to pay for the workshop.

7 Exemption of Courses a maximum of 6 AUs may be granted to applicants who have obtained a Post Graduate Advanced Diploma in Guidance and Counselling (PGAD (G&C)) from NIE, not more than 5 years ago. in addition, a maximum of AUs may be exempted for Professional Development Continuum Models (PDCM) students who have undertaken a course related to Counselling and Guidance.

8 Exemption for Courses may apply for exemption for courses taken from other recognized higher institution. exemption is subjected to the discretion and approval of faculty panel. a grade of B or better must be earned and must be taken not more than five years ago. practicum is not eligible for consideration for exemption.

9 Candidature The candidature period for full-time students is two years. The candidature period for part-time students is four years.

10 Sequences of Courses Offered not all courses are offered in every semester and students are required to plan their study carefully to ensure a timely completion of the degree.

11 PRACTICUM I & II critical experience for successful completion of the MA (C&G). designed to continue fostering individual and group counselling skills. students are required to plan their schedule carefully as each practicum ( Aus) demands a considerable amount of time commitment.

12 Practicum I and II For each counselling practicum, students are required to clock a total of 100 counselling hours: 80 hours of individual counselling and 20 hours of group counselling. Students are also required to clock 100 hours of associated services for each practicum. Students can start their practicum after the completion of 5 specified courses.

13 PRACTICUM I & II supervision of the practicum students is the joint responsibility of the university and the site supervisors. students will receive individual onsite (12 hours) and weekly oncampus group (18 24 hours) counselling supervisions.

14 Dissertation is evidence of an individual s ability to conceptualize and carry out research and to communicate the results of that research in a coherent document. should address an important problem of manageable scope in the chosen field of study, and should make a significant contribution to the profession s theory or practice.

15 Dissertation involves the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data. Not more than 8,000 words exclusive of appendices. 1 supervisor. 2 examiners.

16 Award of Degree award of a Masters degree if he/she has paid all fees prescribed and obtained a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50 for all the required courses. in addition, the candidate must pass the Masters dissertation.
