VXOA VIRTUAL APPLIANCE KVM Hypervisor In-Line Deployment (Bridge Mode) 2012 Silver Peak Systems, Inc. Support Limitations In Bridge mode, the virtual appliance only uses mgmt0, wan0, and lan0. This Quick Start Guide only covers Bridge mode, the in-line deployment. These instructions show the VX-1000 Virtual Appliance as the example. Assumptions Host platform is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2, with KVM virtualization package installed. Before You Begin Comply with the VXOA Virtual Appliance Host System Requirements [PN ] From the Silver Peak Support portal, download the virtual appliance ISO file to the KVM host disk: Obtain a VXOA virtual appliance activation license key SUMMARY OF TASKS 1 Prepare the KVM server/host 2 Create and configure the virtual machine 3 Power on the virtual machine 4 Configure the Virtual Appliance 5 Run the Appliance Manager initial configuration wizard Silver Peak Systems, Inc Great America Parkway Suite 100 Santa Clara, CA (toll-free in USA) Required Virtual Interface Maps to... mgmt0 bridge network interface = mgmt0 wan0 bridge network interface = wan0 mgmt1 network adapter not connected lan0 bridge network interface = lan0 PN Rev B» R5.2 1 of 23

VXOA Virtual Appliance / KVM Hypervisor / In-Line Deployment [Bridge Mode] TO BEGIN... Launch Virtual Machine Manager from the desktop, and connect to the target KVM server. 1 Prepare the KVM server/host In this section, you ll create the following: Four bridge network interfaces Now, you ll create the three networks that actually carry traffic: For management traffic, you ll pair one with mgmt0. For data traffic, you ll pair a second one with wan0 and the third one with lan0. Two virtual disks one for the System, and one for Network Memory. a. From the menu bar, select Edit > Connection Details. The <hostname> Connection Details page appears. 2 of 23 PN Rev B» R5.2

b. Select the Network Interfaces tab. To begin creating a bridge interface for mgmt0, click in the lower left corner. The Configure network interface dialog box appears, showing Step 1 of 2. c. Make sure that the Interface Type is Bridge, and then click Forward. The Step 2 of 2 dialog box appears. PN Rev B» R5.2 3 of 23

VXOA Virtual Appliance / KVM Hypervisor / In-Line Deployment [Bridge Mode] d. Complete the fields as follows: clear Name: Start mode: Activate now: IP settings: Bridge settings: Choose interfaces to bridge: mgmt0 onboot [select it] [Manually configure > No configuration] STP off em2 [based on your host configuration, pick the physical adapter for mgmt0] e. Click Finish. If the following warning message appears, click Yes. The Network Interfaces page appears, with the newly added mgmt0 in the left pane. 4 of 23 PN Rev B» R5.2

f. Repeat the procedures in Steps b through e for wan0 and lan0. The left pane of the Network Interfaces pane displays the additions. Finally, in the Bridge mode configuration, mgmt1 is not used. Therefore, you must map it to a bridge device that is not connected to any physical interface. g. To begin creating a bridge interface for mgmt1, click in the lower left corner of the Network Interfaces page. The Configure network interface dialog box appears, showing Step 1 of 2. h. As with the previous interfaces, make sure that the Interface Type is Bridge, and then click Forward. The Step 2 of 2 dialog box appears. i. Complete the fields as follows: Name: mgmt1 Start mode: onboot Activate now: [select it] IP settings: [Manually configure > No configuration] Bridge settings: STP off Choose interfaces to bridge: [leave empty] PN Rev B» R5.2 5 of 23

VXOA Virtual Appliance / KVM Hypervisor / In-Line Deployment [Bridge Mode] j. Click Finish. The Network Interfaces page displays all four configured interfaces in the left pane. Now you ll create the two virtual disks one for System and the other for Network Memory. k. In the <hostname> Connection Details window, select the Storage tab and click LocalStore in the left navigation pane. NOTE: In this example, LocalStore is a user-created storage pool, used for convenience. You can use any storage pool that meets the host requirements specifications. l. Click New Volume. 21 4 Configure the Virtual Appliance To access the VX-1000 s user interface, you ll need to discover the IP address for its mgmt0 interface and enter it into a browser. NOTE: You ll be entering commands in the console. If you ever need to click outside the client window, press CTRL+ALT. a. Log in as follows: [vx name] login: admin Password: admin [ENTER] [ENTER] If you re using DHCP, then after you enter the password, the console displays the mgmt0 IP address to enter into your browser. Make a note of it. NOTE: To get to the login prompt from this point, enter q for quit, or hit the spacebar to continue paging through the returned information. If the console doesn t display the [mgmt0] IP address, then you ll need to configure a static IP address and add a default gateway. Make sure you have both addresses before continuing. In this example we ll say that mgmt0 = /24 and the default gateway is /24. b. To configure mgmt0, enter the following command sequence: [vx name] # enable [vx name] # config t [vx name] (config) # interface mgmt0 shutdown [vx name] (config) # no interface mgmt0 dhcp [vx name] (config) # interface mgmt0 ip address /24 [vx name] (config) # no interface mgmt0 shutdown [vx name] (config) # show interfaces mgmt0 [ENTER] [ENTER] [ENTER] [ENTER] [ENTER] [ENTER] [ENTER] c. The Silver Peak Appliance Management Console login page appears. b. For both the User Name and Password, enter admin. The initial configuration wizard appears. c. Complete the remaining wizard screens. If desired, change the Hostname. This is the name by which the Silver Peak software knows the virtual appliance. When the wizard asks for the license number, it also provides a hyperlink to the Silver Peak Support portal. From there you can retrieve the key and paste it into the License field. Be sure to select Bridge mode. d. On the last wizard screen, click Apply. The Appliance Manager takes a few minutes to reboot and return to the login page. You are now ready to start using the appliance. PN Rev B» R of 23
