1 Welcome to the third number of ECOFUNDING newsletter in the renewed format, easy to read and full on interesting news from the ecobusiness world and from the whole european partnership! ECOFUNDING is a project designed to create new investment spaces that favor green Mediterranean SMEs. The main objective of the project is to create a comprehensive platform of financial resources that link investors and entrepreneurs and include all financial engineering mechanisms the EU is betting on, at the same time, that it provides with innovative solutions to financing concerning venture capital, private investment and the creation of public-private cooperation structures. The main objective of ECOFUNDING is to reinforce the competitiveness of the companies from the MED space in the fields of the energy efficiency and sustainability, all through the equation: access to finance + energy internationalization = sustainable development and wealth creation. The project counts on business organizations (companies), financial agents (participate as associates) and energy qualification agencies. DECEMBER 201 Page 1

2 ECOFUNDING wants to get over the European crisis thanks to green energy and new creative ideas in the field of the eco- business. Ecofunding aims to get More Efficiency and Less Energy consumption in order to reduce companies costs and to underline new creative solution for European production. The project is implemented by a strong, effective and specialized partnership - 11 partners representing 7 countries of the MED area - coordinated by the Council of Chamber of Commerce of the Valencia Region NEWS FROM THE PARTNERSHIP European SMEs getting greener, contributing to a resource-efficient economy According to the results of the 201 Eurobarometer survey on "SMEs, resource efficiency and green markets", European SMEs are becoming more resource efficient and are contributing substantially to the transition towards a low-carbon economy. SMEs are taking action to minimize waste, save energy, save materials, recycle, save water or offer green products and services. COSME: 2. billion to foster the competitiveness of SMEs over the next seven years The Programme for the Competitiveness of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises aims to assist businesses and citizens to benefit from easier access to markets in the EU and beyond, to become self-employed and to be better assisted by an effective SME related policy reform. ECOWEB: New portal for Eco-innovation ECOWEB provides information on,14 European eco-innovations, including technologies, applications, products, processes and other solutions. It aims to link enterprises, in particular SMEs, and eco-innovations to increase the uptake of EU-funded research. DECEMBER 201 Page 2

3 Horizon 2020 First Calls The Horizon 2020 Work Programme sets out the funding opportunities including calls for proposals aimed at: Innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises; Secure, clean and efficient energy; Smart, green and integrated transport; Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials European companies and regional leaders agree on Action Plan to make Europe's cities smarter The plan concentrates on how to drive forward improvement in buildings and planning, new Information Technologies, transport and energy, and new ways of integrating these areas to create benefits for citizens, businesses and governments. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ITALY THE YEARLY CONFERENCE OF THE ENTERPRISE EUROPE NETWORK IN 2014 More then 600 partners coming from all Europe will meet in Torino next october for the EEN Conference =en PRESENTATION OF ECOFUNDING IN PALERMO ON THE OCCASION OF THE EEN DAYS - EUROPE Confindustria Sicilia presented the project Ecofunding, after the first presentation to the association assembly, in the framework of an interesting seminar on the new Europe 2020 Programs, organized under the umbrella of the Enterprise Europe Network Days DECEMBER 201 Page

4 THE MED EUROPEAN PROGRAM New projects for CCCI in Cyprus under the European Program MED : Ecofunding and Firemed Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar (EIHP) is recognised as the national and regional centre of expertise in the field of energy and is specialised to provide all forms of expert and scientific services to administrative bodies of the Republic of Croatia, local and regional authority administrative bodies, and business entities operating in the energy sector. The Institute employs 65 highly educated consultants, and is serving both public and private sector in the area of energy, with particular sub-specialisation in renewable energy and energy efficiency. EIHP s experts also work on numerous European Union financed projects based on energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. One of the projects is Nearly Zero Energy Hotels (NEZEH) that is funded by the Intelligent Energy Europe fund. The main objective of the NEZEH project is to accelerate the rate of refurbishment of existing hotel buildings into Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB), supporting the private sector and promoting the front runners. In Croatia, EIHP is covering most of the SME hotels along with their partner The Association of Small and Family Hotels that gathers more than 200 members all over Croatia. Our best practice hotel that we use as an example of an energy efficient hotel that also uses renewable energy is Hotel Split in Podstrana, only 9 km from downtown Split. The hotel has a Class A energy certificate (up to 25 kwh/m 2 ). Preparation of warm water is conducted through usage of solar collectors, while most of the lighting is LED. Hotel has a central management unit for HVAC system and a built-in reservoir for collecting rain water. Hotel employees and the hotel owner are recycling most of the waste and they are planning to integrate a PV power plant in the near future DECEMBER 201 Page 4

5 Enterprise Europe Network Ioannina Provision of services to SMEs The Chamber of Ioannina is the Ioannina Center of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) the largest network for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Europe and provides specific services to SMEs such as Information of E.U. funding, Feedback to the Commission concerning the policy-making process and SMEs, Services of international business co-operation, Services of innovation and technology transfer and Encouraging the participation of SMEs in the EU Framework Programme for Research. Moreover, the Chamber of Ioannina as host organization of Europe Direct of Epirus and provides services and information about the European Union, its policies and initiatives. DECEMBER 201 Page 5
