2 Warrington College of Business Administration 267 Stuzin Hall School of Business PO Box Gainesville, FL Fax warrington.ufl.edu/sb Leadership Development Certificate As a student at the Warrington College of Business Administration s School of Business or Fisher School of Accounting, students will be challenged to prepare for outstanding careers and amazing graduate programs through a variety of curricular and co-curricular opportunities. The Leadership Development Certificate Program is designed to help a student to gain professional and academic skills that he or she will need after the undergraduate experience. There are three levels of certificates: the Introductory Leadership Certificate, the Intermediate Leadership Certificate, and the Advanced Leadership Certificate & Dean s Leadership Fellows. Each of these certificates builds upon the one before it and, therefore, encourages students to plan for their experiences early in their university career. Below is a description of the three levels of the Leadership Development Certificate: Level 1- Introductory Leadership Certificate 1. Completion of three courses/programs listed in the Academics Matrix 2. Completion of twenty hours of community service: a. Independently (as an individual) b. As a member of a University recognized service organization (registered with CSAI or CLS) c. As a member of a student organization, but not performed as a condition of membership in that organization 3. Participation in at least one University student organization (10+ contact hours) a. Participation in the Freshman Leadership Council will count toward this requirement 4. Participation in two career development workshops sponsored by the Career Resource Center 5. Submission of Certificate of Completion, Reflection of Learning Experiences paper, and critiqued resume. The Reflection of Learning Experiences paper is an opportunity for the student to look back at the experiences in which he or she engaged through this level of the program and examine what they mean for his or her personal and professional development while also looking ahead to what experiences they plan to pursue in the next stage of the program. This paper should be 3-4 pages, and must be turned in with the Application of Certificate Completion. Level 2- Intermediate Leadership Certificate 1. Completion of BUL 4443 Ethics in Global Business and two additional courses/programs listed in the Academics Matrix (6 total classes) 2. Completion of one 150 hour internship or study abroad experience The Foundation for The Gator Nation
3 3. Completion of an additional fifteen hours of community service independently or through a registered service organization through the University of Florida (35 total) 4. Service for one year (Fall & Spring) in a student leadership position(s), in: a. Florida Leadership Academy Peer Mentor b. Business Undergraduate Mentoring Program Mentor c. Student organizations d. Student run programs (i.e. Gator Growl, Gator Student Investment Fund, Dance Marathon, etc.) e. Student Government (Elected & appointed Directors) f. First Year Florida peer leader (earns ½ year per semester taught) g. Trip Leader for Florida Alternative Breaks (earns ½ year per semester lead) 5. Submission of Certificate of Completion, Career & Leadership Portfolio (examples of work from 3 of 4 categories above, Reflection of Learning Experiences paper, and critiqued resume). Additionally, the student will have to meet with a member of the Career & Leadership Programs staff. Level 3- Advanced Leadership Certificate & Dean s Leadership Fellows 1. Completion of one of the programs in the Advanced section of the Academics Matrix 2. Completion of one additional 150 hour internship or study abroad experience (only one study abroad will count toward the Level 3 certificate) 3. Completion of an additional fifteen hours of community service (50 total): independently or through a registered service organization through the University of Florida a.
