In C-USA, Marshall is tops in scoring offense (46.0), scoring defense (16.0), rushing defense (67.0), passing offense (312.7), total offense (527.3), total defense (252.7) and first downs (88). High Octane: The Marshall offense hit high speed last season, leading the nation in total plays from scrimmage per game (90.6) and the number of scrimmage plays that went for 10 yards or more (20.25). Through three games this season, Marshall leads the nation in plays that have gone for at least 10 yards (65) and is third nationally with 247 plays from scrimmage. Cato Improves Streak to 21: Rakeem Cato s 38-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of the loss to Ohio is the 21stconsecutive game that the quarterback has thrown at least one touchdown pass, tying him with Derek Carr of Fresno State. Marcus Mariotta (16) of Oregon is third. Feel The Rush: Marshall has outrushed five straight opponents dating back to last season. The last time the program had a longer streak was a 10-game stretch, starting with the last four games of the 1994 season and ending with the first six of the 1995 campaign. Climbing the Charts: Marshall s Rakeem Cato has completed 65.9 percent of his passes in his college career (656 completions in 995 attempts). That figure currently puts him atop the Herd s all-time record book, just ahead of Byron Leftwich (65.1, ) and Chad Pennington (63.4, ). New Faces on D: Through three games, the top six tacklers for MU are LB Neville Hewitt (19), LB Jermaine Holmes (18), DB Corey Tindal (15), S D.J. Hunter (12), DB A.J. Leggett (12) and DB Darryl Roberts (11). Of those, only Holmes and Hunter played for the Herd in Extra, Extra!: Marshall has not missed a point after touchdown (PAT) in 37 straight games (eighth-highest nationally) and has a consecutive made streak of 133 (also eighth nationally) as kicker Justin Haig was a perfect 60-for-60 last season and in the first three games of the season. Tyler Warner and Haig were a combined 33-for-33 in 2011 and Warner connected on his last 22 attempts of The last miss came on Sept. 25, 2010 when Warner s attempt was blocked in a win over the Ohio Bobcats. 50+: Marshall s 55-0 win over Gardner-Webb was the seventh time that the Thundering Herd has reached the 50-point plateau under coach Doc Holliday. Jim Donnan ( ) holds the alltime school mark in that department with 15, while Bob Pruett ( ) reached that mark 14 times and Cam Henderson ( , ) did it on 13 occasions. Ohio Notes: -Sophomore running back Kevin Grooms 1-yd touchdown rush was his first score of the season and ninth touchdown of his Herd career. -True freshman offensive lineman Michael Selby played the third Herd series, making his first appearance of his career at (left) guard. He was a backup center in the first two games. -Travis Carrie s 48-yard punt return is longest vs. the Herd this season. Its previous long had been 14 yards, and only three punts had been returned for total of 21 yards until then. -Gator Hoskins touchdown catch in fourth quarter is the 16th of his career, tying him with tight end Sean Doctor ( ) at No. 13 all-time at Marshall. The tight end touchdown receptions record is 23 by Cody Slate ( ). -Wide receiver Tommy Shuler had nine receptions in the loss, moving him to 147 for his career and into a tie at No. 12 on the Marshall career list with Doctor. He needs 21 more catches to reach the top 10. In the Ohio game, he passed Troy Brown, LaVorn Colclough and Denero Marriott. -Essray Taliaferro s third-quarter rushing touchdown was his second this season and the fifth of his career. -Cato s 367 passing yards gave him 7,109 for his career, moving past John Gregory (7,020) and Todd Donnan (7,050) to No. 3 all-time. Cato also moved past Donnan (7,057) to No. 4 in total offense with 7,267. Gardner Webb Notes: -The win over Gardner-Webb was Marshall s first shutout in 111 games, since the 2003 season finale a 28-0 win over rival Ohio at Edwards Stadium. The win over Gardner-Webb was only the second Herd shutout in 171 games (since a Sept. 25, 1999 win over Temple, 34-0). -Gardner-Webb s six turnovers is the most for a Herd opponent
3 since the second game of 2011 (six by Southern Miss in a Marshall victory). -The 67 Gardner-Webb rushing yards were the fewest for an opponent since Memphis 39 on Nov. 17, The 184 total yards were the fewest since Ohio s 123 in the Little Caesar s Pizza Bowl on Dec. 26, 2009 and the fewest allowed in a home game since Oct. 30, 2004 when UCF put up just This is Marshall s first back-to-back 50-point performances since the Herd returned to major college football in It s the first time in same season since the first round and quarterfinals of the 1996 NCAA Division I-AA playoffs (59-14 over Delaware, 54-0 over Furman). -Marshall s win over Gardner-Webb makes the Herd 13-1 against FCS schools (formerly Division I-AA) since the Herd returned to major college football (from I-AA) with the 1997 opener. The only loss was to New Hampshire, 48-35, on Sept. 15, 2007 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. -Steward Butler (107, 151) is the Herd s first back-to-back 100- yard rusher since Darius Marshall pulled off the feat on Sept. 26, 2009 against Memphis (203) and again on Oct. 3 against East Carolina (141). -Rakeem Cato passed for 230 yards, moving the junior from Miami to 6,743 career yards and into sixth place on the Herd list. He passed Carl Fodor s 6,655 yards ( ). Cato also climbed on the MU career total offense list. With 236 yards in the game, he moved to 6,871 and fifth all-time. He passed Bernard Morris (6,705, ) and John Gregory (6,720, ). Cato needs 188 yards to pass Todd Donnan (7,057 from ) for No. 4. -Slot receiver Tommy Shuler Cato s high school and college teammate also continued to climb on Marshall career charts. Shuler had five catches for 85 yards. He reached the top 25 in receiving yards, at 1,412, passing Ray Crisp (1,364 from ) and James Williams (1,403 in ). Shuler is within 52 yards of No. 24 Tim Lewis (1,419, ), No. 23 Will Brown (1,444, ) and No. 22 Ricardo Clark (1,464, ). The junior from Miami has 138 career catches one behind Troy Brown for No. 15, four behind no. 14 LaVorn Colclough, five behind Denero Marriott ( ) and nine behind tight end Sean Doctor ( ). -The interception returns for Marshall touchdowns in the first two games this season (Raheem Waiters against Miami [OH] and Monterius Lovett against Gardner-Webb), mark the first time Herd has had two picks returned for scores in the same season since 2006, when C.J. Spillman (85 yards) and Zearrick Mathews (44 yards) had touchdown returns of picks. Miami Notes: -Raheem Waiters interception return for touchdown was the first pick-6 for Herd since Devin Arrington (LB) had one for 18 yards last season (Week 2) versus Western Carolina. It is the longest (27 yds.) since safety Omar Brown returned 48 yards for TD vs. UAB in Cato had five TD passes for the third time in his career (at Purdue and at ECU last season). The school record is six by Chad Pennington at Ball State (1997) and Byron Leftwich versus Ohio (2001). Leftwich s six versus Ohio is also the stadium record. -Miami s nine punts was the most by a Herd opponent since Oct. 1, 2005 Marshall s first Conference USA season when SMU booted 10 times in its overtime loss at The Joan. -Gator Hoskins second third quarter TD catch was the 15th of his career, tying him for 14th all-time in Herd history with Keith Baxter Sr., James Williams and Brian Dowler. Only two TEs have more career TD catches than Hoskins Cody Slate 23 ( ) and Sean Doctor 16 ( ). -Cato also has passed 600 career completions, with 610. He s No. 4 all-time there, behind Pennington, Leftwich and Michael Payton (3rd at 689). -Herd RB Essray Taliaferro s 1-yd TD run is his first in career at home (fourth overall) two last season at ECU, one in 2010 at SMU. -Tyler Williams 65-yard punt is the second-longest in his career (66 yards at Rice in 2012) and the longest by a Herd punter at Edwards Stadium since a 69-yarder by Ian O Connor vs. Hofstra in The Herd also posted 19 rushing first downs in the game, the most for the program since posting that many vs. Ohio on Nov. 28, The Herd also held Miami (Ohio) to nine first downs, the fewest for the program since allowing that many to Tulane on Oct. 9, The Sunshine State: The Herd has 34 student-athletes on its 2013 roster who hail from the state of Florida. That is second only to Louisville s 39 and ahead of Troy (28), Wake Forest (27), Navy (25) and Georgia Tech (15). Perfect vs. Texas at Home: Interestingly enough, Marshall has never lost to a school from Texas at home. The Thundering Herd is a perfect 9-0 against Texas schools in games played in Huntington. Marshall owns a win over North Texas (1988), two wins over Houston (2008, 2012), two wins over Rice (2007, 2011), two wins over SMU (2005, 2009) and a pair of wins over UTEP (2006, 2010). Herd Adds Six New Assistant Coaches for 2013: The Marshall football staff saw quite a bit of turnover in 2012, as six new coaches joined the staff. Chuck Heater is the Herd s new defensive coordinator. Joining him on that side of the ball is defensive ends coach Sean Cronin and Adam Fuller. On the offensive side, Thomas Brown is now the running backs coach, while Mike Furrey was named wide receivers coach and Alex Mirabal is the new offensive line coach. Also, offensive coordinator Bill Legg moved from coaching tackles and tight ends to quarterbacks. Todd Hartley went from safeties to tight ends and J.C. Price is now coaching the defensive tackles. Cronin Named Defensive Ends Coach at Marshall: Sean Cronin, a member of the 2010 Marshall football coaching staff, has returned to take the defensive ends coaching position, the department officially announced Wednesday. Cronin, who spent the 2010 season as the defensive line coach at Marshall and has played on or coached for four national championship teams, was the defensive line coach at Temple University the past two seasons. Led by three-time All-MAC first team defensive end Adrian Robinson and All-MAC DE Morkeith Brown, the Owls defense dominated the Mid-American Conference in 2011, leading all teams in five categories while ranking No. 3 nationally in scoring defense. We are pleased to welcome Sean and his family back to Huntington, Herd coach Doc Holliday said. His addition will not only strengthen our defensive line, but bolster our recruiting efforts as well. We re fortunate to have him. In 2012, Brown (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and DE Adrian Robinson (Pittsburgh Steelers) signed rookie free agent contracts, helping to set the Temple school record with a class of 12 NFL signees. I m excited to return to Marshall and to have the opportunity to work with Coach Holliday and Coach (Chuck) Heater, Cronin said of the Herd s defensive coordinator. Huntington is a special place and I am eager to get to work with our student-athletes. He joined the Thundering Herd staff after spending the 2009 season as the defensive line coach at The Citadel. Prior to The Citadel, Cronin spent three years as a graduate assistant defensive coach at the University of Florida, working with NFL Draft selections Jermaine Cunningham (2nd rd., New England), Carlos Dunlap (2nd rd., Cincinnati), Derrick Harvey (1st rd., Jacksonville), Jarvis Moss (1st rd., Denver), Ray McDonald (3rd rd., San Francisco), Joe Cohen (4th rd., San Francisco), Marcus Thomas (4th rd., Denver Broncos), and Jaye Howard (4th rd., Seattle Seahawks). He also worked with Holliday and Heater with the Gators. Cronin won two national titles as a player at Georgetown (Ky.) and helped the University of Florida to national championships in his first and third seasons as a graduate assistant in Gainesville. Cronin went to UF after spending the 2005 season at Marshall, where he served as the offensive and special teams quality control assistant. In that role, Cronin performed multiple duties, including film break down and statistical analysis. Following graduation, Cronin spent two seasons as the linebackers coach at Division II Clarion (Pa.) University. Cronin went to Moeller High School in Cincinnati and attended the University of Cincinnati, where he was a defensive end before transferring to Georgetown College (Ky.), where he played defensive end his first season and defensive tackle during his final two years. As a player, Cronin was part of three teams that played for the national championship and two that won the title. In 2002, he was an All-American and All-Conference selection. Upon graduation from Georgetown, Cronin spent the spring semester of his senior year interning at his alma mater assisting with the defensive line and in strength and conditioning efforts. In 2002, Cronin earned his B.A. in history with a minor in coaching from Georgetown (Ky.). In 2004, he completed work for a master s in rehabilitative science at Clarion. Cronin is married to the former
5 Emily Heater. The couple has two daughters, Grace and Caitlin. Brown Named Running Backs Coach at Marshall: Thomas Brown, formerly a standout running back at the University of Georgia and in the National Football League, has joined the Marshall Football staff as running backs coach, head coach Doc Holliday announced Thursday. Brown comes to Marshall after one season as the running backs coach at Chattanooga. He helped the Mocs to a winning season at 6-5, a mark that included overtime losses to nationally-ranked teams Georgia Southern and Wofford. Thomas is an excellent addition to our staff, Holliday said. He has competed at the highest level of our sport and has a tremendous reputation in Atlanta with players and coaches alike. We are pleased to welcome Thomas and his family to our program. Before going to Chattanooga, Brown spent one year (2011) working with the football program at Georgia on the strength and conditioning staff. I m very excited to have this opportunity to join the staff here at Marshall, said Brown. I am looking forward to working with some talented student-athletes and becoming a member of the Marshall community. Brown was a prep standout in the Atlanta area at Tucker High School before going on to an all-star career at Georgia, where he was a four-year starter and a member of the Bulldogs 2005 Southeastern Conference championship squad. After finishing his career as the fifth-leading rusher in Georgia history, he was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He then spent the 2009 season with the Cleveland Browns. He earned his bachelor s degree in speech communication from Georgia. Brown and his wife, Jessica, have two children, Orlando and Tyson. Furrey Named Wide Receivers Coach at Marshall: Marshall head coach Doc Holliday announced Thursday that Mike Furrey has officially joined the Thundering Herd football staff as its wide receivers coach. Furrey, an eight-year NFL veteran at wide receiver/defensive back for St. Louis Rams, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins, comes to Huntington after two seasons as the head coach and offensive coordinator at Kentucky Christian University. It is a pleasure to welcome Mike and his family to our program, Holliday said. He brings with him an outstanding resume, not only as a coach and a person, but also as someone who played at the game s highest level for the length he did. Our wide receiver unit is in good hands. At KCU, he took an 0-11 program and turned it into one that boasted a 7-4 record and a national ranking of No. 25 in NAIA Division I by the end of the 2012 season. He also coached the wide receivers and quarterbacks at KCU and raised and secured funds to build KCU s turf field. It is an honor and a privilege to get an opportunity to coach at Marshall with this staff, said Furrey. I am excited to work with Coach Holliday and Coach Legg, two men who have tremendous respect in the coaching community. Prior to KCU, he served as the wide receiver/secondary coach at Madison Plains High School in London, Ohio, after a successful career in the NFL. While with the Cleveland Browns, he won the 2010 JB Award, an award given annually to those who specialize in community service by CBS studio host James Brown. Furrey also won the NFL s prestigious Ed Block Courage Award, which highlights those who show the qualities of courage, compassion, commitment and community service. In 2009, he was a finalist for the NFL s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which honors a player s volunteer and charity work as well as his excellence on the field. Furrey also was nominated for the award in 2007 and While with the Lions, Furrey led the NFC in receptions (98) in 2006 and was second only to Houston s Andre Johnson in the NFL. He also set an NFL non-rookie record for a having the most catches after not recording one in the previous season. He also was named the Lions Co-Offensive Player of the Year and served as the organization s union representative in the NFLPA. For his career, he finished with 221 catches for 2,298 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2007, he founded and became president of the Mike Furrey Foundation. The organization s goal is to improve the lives of those who are hurting, homeless, hopeful and/or hungry. To date, the foundation has raised more than $500,000. Prior to his NFL career, he played for the Las Vegas Outlaws in the XFL in 2001 (18 catches, 243 yards, one touchdown) and for the Arena Football League s New York Dragons for two years. He was leading the AFL in receptions (108), receiving yards (1,574), receiving touchdowns (46, tying an AFL record for touchdowns in a single season), and points (288) when he left the Dragons on April 29, 2003 to sign with the Rams. During his collegiate days, Furrey was a three-time All-American at Northern Iowa after transferring from Ohio State, where he was a member of the team that won the 1996 Rose Bowl. In his three years at UNI, Furrey set new Gateway Football Conference receiving records with career totals of 242 receptions for 3,544 yards and 27 touchdowns. Furrey and his wife, Koren, have a daughter, Makayla, and sons Stone and Kanon. Fuller Named Linebackers Coach at Marshall: Marshall head football coach Doc Holliday announced Wednesday that Adam Fuller has been named the Thundering Herd s linebackers coach. Fuller comes to Huntington after four seasons as Chattanooga s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Our linebacking corps will benefit greatly from Adam s addition to the staff, Holliday said. He has been very successful everywhere he has been and his experience with this position makes us better. In 2012, Fuller s defense ranked in the top 18 in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in nearly every category, including first down defense (6th, 15.7 per game), total defense (10th, ), pass defense (12th, 166.0) and scoring defense (18th, 20.4). In 2011, UTC led the Southern Conference in total defense (305.3 yds/game), scoring defense (19.7 ppg), pass efficiency defense (100.15), pass defense (140.8 yds/game), turnover margin (+9), fumbles recovered (14), opponent thirddown conversion (33%) and opponent fourth down conversion (38%) in The Mocs ranked in the top 20 in the nation in sacks and passing defense in 2009 and third in the SoCon in rushing defense in UTC was also in the top 20 in the nation with 14 fumbles recovered in In four seasons, Fuller helped guide 13 defensive players to All-Southern Conference honors, including two-time All-American linebacker Wes Dothard and All-American defensive end and Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year Davis Tull. He also mentored 2010 SoCon Freshman of the Year Kadeem Wise and 2009 SoCon Defensive Player of the Year and All-American Josh Beard. Cornerback Buster Skrine became the first Moc drafted since 2001 when he was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Cornerback Chris Lewis-Harris signed a free-agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals and saw action during the 2012 regular season and playoffs. I want to thank Coach Holliday and Marshall University for the opportunity to increase upon the traditions and championships of the past, Fuller said. We are focused on doing whatever it takes to be successful at Marshall. Prior to his stint at UTC, Fuller was the head coach for one season at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. He worked with Coach Russ Huesman when they were both at Richmond from There, he helped the Spiders to back-to-back conference championships and appearances in the FCS playoffs. Fuller began his coaching career as a linebackers coach at WPI (1998). He also coached at Wagner College (1999-
6 04), where he was promoted to co-defensive coordinator in As a collegian, Fuller was a four-year letter winner at Sacred Heart University. He earned Football Gazette All-American honors as a linebacker in 1996 and served as team captain in A Tewksbury, Mass., native, he played varsity football at Tewksbury High. Fuller earned his bachelor s degree in criminal justice with a minor in sociology in In addition, he earned a master s in secondary education in 2001 from Wagner. He and his wife, Hope, have two sons, Jack and Aidan. Mirabal Named to Marshall Football Staff: Marshall head football coach Doc Holliday announced Thursday that Alex Mirabal has been named an assistant coach on the offensive side of the Herd s coaching staff. Mirabal, who served as Assistant Head Coach for six years at FIU, was also the Panthers offensive line coach for the past three years after tutoring the tight ends his first three seasons. Alex provides an immediate boost to this coaching staff, Holliday said. We are fortunate to welcome not only a great coach, but also a tenacious recruiter to our Marshall Football family. In 2012, FIU offensive linemen Caylin Hauptmann and Rupert Bryan, Jr. were named second and third team All-Sun Belt Conference selections, respectively, by Phil Steele. During FIU s impressive two-year run in 2010 and 2011, Mirabal s offensive line was regarded as one of the best in the Sun Belt, allowing just 20 and 15 sacks, respectively. Behind a much-improved offensive line, FIU continually broken single-season and single-game offensive records. In 2010, after an impressive victory over Troy -- the school s first against the Trojans when the Panthers rushed for an FIU-record 448 yards -- the entire offensive line was awarded a Helmet Sticker by ESPN.com. It is an honor to be part of this program, Mirabal said. Marshall University has a rabid fan base and I look forward to working with its student-athletes to achieve greatness, on and off the field. A long-time Miami-Dade high school football coach, Mirabal taught and coached around south Florida since 1993 and, prior to arriving at FIU, helped Miami Christopher Columbus High School to three district championships in four years as the Explorers offensive line coach and run game coordinator. In 2008, Mirabal s tight ends played an integral role in the emergence of the FIU offense. Sept. 24, 2011 Hokies Outmuscle Herd, HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Virginia Tech s impenetrable run defense, combined with four rushing touchdowns from the Hokie backfield, proved to be the deciding factor in the victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd. The game was the 11th meeting between the two programs and the loss is the first time Marshall had ever fallen to VT on home turf. Marshall dropped to 1-3, while VT improved to 4-0 with the victory. Marshall was held to six rushing yards against the No. 4 rush defense in the nation, while VT was able to total 215 yards on the ground. The Hokies defense was also able to sack Marshall s Rakeem Cato five times and hold the Herd to just 3 of 15 on third down conversions. Like I ve said before, we cannot become one dimensional, noted Head Coach Doc Holliday on the offensive production. We couldn t seem to get the running game going and our offense turned one dimensional. There are a lot of teams that become one dimensional against the Virginia Tech defense. We tried to run it, but we just didn t have much success. On offense, the Hokies capitalized on five out of six red zone opportunities and limited Marshall to one visit inside the 20 yard line. VT also saw a short field all day, finishing with an average field position at the 37 yard line. Cato finished 17 for 33 with 245 passing yards and one touchdown to Aaron Dobson. Dobson was Cato s favorite target with five receptions for 103 yards. Antavious Wilson finished with threee receptions for 72 yards. VT s Logan Thomas went 22 for 33 with 229 passing yards and one rushing touchdown. Thomas connected with D.J. Coles for a team-leading 8 receptions and 66 yards. His second favorite target, Danny Coale, led the Hokies in receiving yards with 107 yards off seven receptions. The Hokies had two other players score on the ground, along with Thomas. The No. 2 leading rusher in the ACC, David Wilson, combined for 132 yards on 26 carries and one touchdown and was followed by Josh Oglesby with 12 carries for 75 yards, including a 44 yard play to begin the third quarter, and two touchdowns. Omar Brown led the Marshall defense with 17 tackles, a tackle for loss and a forced fumble. Monterius Lovett was involved in both of Virginia Tech s turnovers after finishing with an interception and a fumble recovery. Virginia Tech was consistently in the Marshall backfield and totaled 5.0 sacks for a loss of 25 yards. J.R. Collins had 2.5 sacks and also combined for 2.5 tackles for loss for the Hokies. Antone Exum had the lone VT interception and finished with three tackles. Virginia Tech struck first in the opening quarter after starting the drive at midfield. A 16 yard catch from Danny Coale, combined with a 28 yard run from Wilson set up the first points of the game as Thomas rumbled into the end zone from five yards out to go up 7-0. The Hokies extended their lead late in the first quarter after a 58 yard drive was topped off with Wilson s three yard touchdown run, which pushed the score to During the PAT, Marshall s Vinny Curry blocked the attempt and the ball was picked up by Lovett, who returned the ball all the way into the opposite end zone. After a review from upstairs the two points were taken off the board because Lovett s knee grazed the ground at the 15 yard line. Marshall responded on the next drive and earned its first points of the game after a 46 yard field goal attempt sailed through the uprights, trimming Virginia Tech s lead to At the beginning of the second quarter, the Hokies went on the board again following two pass connections from Thomas to Coale for 29 yards, and to the VT tight end, Eric Martin, for a 15 yard completion. Oglesby was able to bust in for a four yard touchdown after Martin s grab and VT improved their lead to Late in the second quarter, VT recorded their final points of the half with a 41 yard field goal from Cody Journell with 1:10 left in the half, making the score With 1:03 left on the clock in the second quarter, Marshall took over possession at its own 29 yard line. Cato led the Thundering Herd on a 71 yard drive in three plays to score Marshall s first touchdown of the game. He went 3-for-3 on the drive and used a 29 yard touchdown pass to Aaron Dobson to make the score The score marks Dobson s fourth touchdown reception and Cato s fifth touchdown throw of the season. Virginia Tech used its stonewall defense to stop Marshall s offensive attack in the second half and held the Herd scoreless to end the game. VT did score one final time in the fourth quarter off a five yard touchdown run from Oglesby to make the final score We knew going in what we were going to get, commented Holliday after the game. Our kids played physical, but we didn t get them stopped. I m proud of the way we played, but I m not proud we lost the game. That s unacceptable here at Marshall and the players understand that. I thought effort was great and we played extremely hard. We need to change the field position in the first half, but we never got it done. You give those guys a short field then you will have problems and we did.
11 Doc Holliday Head Coach - Fourth Season (19-21 overall, C-USA) Marshall University Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick introduced Doc Holliday as the Thundering Herd s 29th head football coach on December 17, Holliday, a Hurricane W.Va. native, is widely regarded as one of the top recruiters in the nation and he brings with him more than 30 years of collegiate coaching experience to Marshall that includes stops at Florida, NC State and West Virginia. During his coaching career, Holliday has coached in 22 bowl games, three national championship games and coached 11 players that have gone on to the National Football League. He has also coached five All-Americans and 18 student-athletes that have earned all-conference or All-East honors.
