1 Master (M2) IREN Network Industries & Digital Economy A training of excellence in economics and management of the digital economy and network industries Master IREN

2 Master IREN Network industries are at the heart of the current economic transformations. They are gradually opening up to competition, which has been changing drastically the structure and functioning of these markets. Secondly, they transform the infrastructures of the economy. The rapid digitisation of our economies, fuelled by network information and knowledge technologies, favours the emergence of new industrial players and new services, as well as it changes the design, production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. Objectives The master IREN Network Industries and Digital Economy is an international graduate program of excellence. Its aim is to train dynamic students to allow them to master the principles driving network industries and the digital economy. The programme will give the students a comprehensive and scientifically grounded set of analyses and methodologies to monitor the rapidly evolving phenomena. This program should boost their careers either in the academia or in companies, governments, consumer based organizations, or institutions of regulation. The programme has two paths (Research and Professional) and four themes for specialisation: Digital Economy Innovation Network Industries Origin The Master IREN is an educational partnership jointly operated by the Universities of the Region Ile-de- France (Paris Ouest - Nanterre La Défense, Paris-Sud 11, Pierre et Marie Curie) and the Grandes Ecoles (Ecole Polytechnique, Supélec, Télécom ParisTech) Public admission Students graduated with a first year master degree (M1) in Management, Economics, Science, Mathematics and Statistic Engineering, Political Sciences. 3rd year of the engineering schools involved in the IREN project (Télécom ParisTech, Supélec, Ecole Polytechnique). Students graduated with a second year master degree (M2), other french or foreign degrees admitted in equivalence of master. 3 Training Students learn those skills developed by research centres and partner institutions in the areas of network industries and the digital economy. They benefit from a rich and varied environment embedded in research networks and partnerships with businesses and with institutions both at the national and international levels. Student will acquired recognized competences in economics and in management in the following fields: The economics relevant to understand the dynamics of markets in network industries and to deal with their regulations. The corporate strategies and the firms ability to change their organization as well as marketing and production models. The institutional mechanisms and legal principles impacting on the management of firms and the organization of markets. The combined technical and economic dimensions of networks. Faculties P-J. 4 Professional perspectives The master has three objectives for education through diversified and intertwined curricula: To train students to get positions as executives in the industry. It provides them with the culture, the methodologies and the know-how allowing their immediate employability. To help students to start a PhD program in cooperation with corportations and institutions (CIFRE Grants). Beyond providing an opportunity to write a dissertation in close cooperation with professionals at the heart of the evolution of network industries, these partnerships between universities and the industry are a highly recognized for professional targeting international high-level executive careers. To prepare for a career in higher education and research for students seeking to join a related PhD program. Six major profiles constitute the ground of professional opportunities for IREN students: Economic and Technical Expert in the field of information technology and development of digital activities, for public agencies and corporations. Consultant specialized in network industries and their regulation working either for consulting firms, or network operators, or regulatory authorities. Managers of projects of innovation, including innovative services, where analysis of use plays an essential role in international corporations and innovative SMEs. Responsible for research and development projects, especially those involving the management of the rapidly changing environment. Executives in the private or public sector after a PhD in an industrial context. Teaching and research after a PhD in an academic context. 3

6 Information COURSE STRUCTURE Teaching takes place Thursday afternoon, Friday all day and Saturday morning 15 September - 15 January : 10 fundamental courses. Students must select 6 basic courses and attend 2 courses in methodology (Econometrics and Research 15 Methodology). January - 30 March: 4 courses of specialisation: Digital Economy, Innovation, Network Industries, Market Design. Students choose a Professional or Research path.
