Overall Objectives: MURINET aims to create an European pool of experts in Health and Disability research and management within the framework of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Model (ICF, World Health Organization, 2001)
Overall Objectives: ICF model embodies the principles of: Full PARTICIPATION & MAINSTREAMING and UNIVERSALITY of Disability
Overall Objectives: The proposed MURINET joint collaborative research project shares the following objectives: 1. Apply the ICF model in different settings Improving health and disability research and policy across Europe
Overall Objectives: 2. Reorienting health and disability-related clinical practice and policy Exploring the validity of the various continua of functioning and disability, grounded in the ICF model
Overall Objectives: 3. Explore the practical consequences of the ICF- based intervention strategies in which all interventions are designed to increase participation, by means of environmental facilitation or increased functional capacity
MURINET rationale Full participation by persons with disabilities (PwD) Full inclusion in society Access to health and other resources ICF provides the theoretical foundation for this EU research by emphasizing the need to look at the complete lived experience of disability and by providing acommon language that links together clinical and rehabilitative services, population data collection, and other health-related services, such as education and employment
Overall Approach and Methodology MURINET Aims What are the needs of people with disability? How to define interventions? Human functioning and disability are multi-faceted, integrated, fluid and continuous experiences (ICF principles)
Overall Approach and Methodology MURINET will help to meet the URGENT NEED to DEVELOP and VALIDATE a holistic and integrated conception of the LIVED EXPERIENCE of DISABILITY
Joint Research and Training Project: MURINET MAIN FOUR Research areas AREA 1 Clinical & Rehabilitative AREA 3 Health & Disability Information for Policy AREA 2 Child Health, Psychology & Education AREA 4 Ethics & Human Rights

Compare distributionof disabilitylevel in clinicalpopulations with general PopulationNorms obtained from different country level data sets 3.Asseschange in diseasestage and functional status following different types of interventions (person-level, environmental)

Joint Collaborative Research Project Area 2: Child Health, psychology and education 1. Study nature and extend of disabilityamong children in rehabilitationand schoolsettings. 2. Contrast the profilesand magnitudesof disabilityin childrenwith adultsin clinical populations 3. Examine the role of environmentalfactors for childrenin improving Participationoutcomes.Identify amatchingstrategy between capacitylevels and environmentsthat maximize participationoutcomes.

Joint Collaborative Research Project Area 3: Health and Disability information for policy 1a. Provide ICF based measurementstrategyand tools for health &disability Measurementat populationlevel. 1b. Develop amechanismfor mappingexisting clinicalterminologiesand Measurementinstrumentsto the ICF framework. 2. Determine and comparethresholdsor cut-offsof functionaldecrements In clinicaland general populationsamples 3a. Identify participationgaps in populationand service based health & Disabilitymeasurement. 3b. Identifyinterventionsat individualand environmentallevel to maximize Participationoutcomes
