Our articles in January 2012 Dear Customer Today we will launch version 4 of our IGEL Universal Management Suite - together with two new product features! Stefan Wiegel "Shared Workplace" and "High Availability" enhance thin client management with user-dependent configuration and high-availability device management. Furthermore all devices with IGEL Linux support Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0 by now! Another current focus is the Recertification of all our Authorized IGEL Partners which happens on an annual basis. In order to achieve this, partners need to renew both their technical and sales elements. Stefan Wiegel Channel Manager EMEA NEW PRODUCT FEATURES New Functions: user-dependent configuration and high-availability device management Today, IGEL enhances its product line with two optional functions. The thin client Shared Workplace feature, which can be separately licensed, allows user-dependent device configuration and is designed for those environments characterized by shift work and user roaming. In addition, the High Availability feature, which is a program extension of the new IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) 4.0 remote management software, brings high availability to thin client management. The optional High Availability UMS extension is primarily intended for those customers with large IT environments and scenarios in which failsafe operation of the UMS is of mission-critical importance. Available immediately, the UMS now includes five test licenses for High Availability.

2 Shared Workplace Release date: January 25th Main Features: Features - It allows user-dependent configuration based on setting profiles. - It allows configuration settings to be made for factors such as session types or right/left-handed mouse-button operation Typical Areas of Application - Workstations used for shift work or in call centers, where different staff members use the same device and thus need their own individual settings (e.g. keyboard language, mouse-button configuration for right/left-handed operation, session types) - Roaming environments, where users frequently switch workstations, such as in hospitals and at service/ticket counters, checkouts (POS) and customer-reception areas - User authentication Licensing - This is an optional feature that can be separately licensed for IGEL thin client software. - This feature can also be used in mixed environments with Shared Workplace desks and standard workplaces UMS High Availability Extension (IGEL Universal Management Suite v Major Release) Release date: January 25th Main Features: Features - Loadbalancing - High availability Load balancing scenario In large environments with many thin client devices (>500) when booting simultaneously some devices will not receive new settings in time High availability scenario Ensures redundancy if one server hard- or software fails Licensing - CML Client Management License per seat (managed thin client) - No mixed environment - 5 CMLs for evaluation included in UMS Standard (not for productive usage, will be deactivated as soon as productive license is deployed) PRODUCT NEWS IGEL Supports Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0 IGEL Technology announced its support of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0. The powerful remote-display protocol SPICE in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization has already been available in IGEL thin client hardware and software for some time. Now IGEL is among the first manufacturers to support Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0 in line with its general availability this week. This means that IGEL Universal Desk thin clients running IGEL Linux are among the first devices to support Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0, which allows virtualized Windows or Linux desks to be provisioned in a secure and economical manner and accessed via the high-performance SPICE protocol from different enterprise locations. This leads to manageability benefits for large-scale deployments. SOFTWARE UPDATES

Support for MPEG2, planned with Release ) - USB Redirection (isochronous devices not yet supported, planned with Release ) RDP compression enhancements for low-band-width connections UDC support - Advantech-DLoG MTC 6 - WYSE R50L Citrix Client 12 main feature: flash redirection IGEL Linux v Minor Release Release date: January 18th Red Hat Desk Virtualization 3.0 support (including new Spice version) IGEL KICK-OFF 2012 Global kick-off in Germany IGEL's annual global kick-off meeting took place in Zeulenroda, in the Eastern part of Germany, earlier this month. We received many product and firmware updates for the year ahead, which we will share with you when you take part in one of our AIP recertification webinars over the next few months. During the event, the IGEL distribution partner Arrow ECS Nordic was awarded with the "Best Performance" award. These models, known collectively as "zero clients," may have different designs, but they all implicitly or explicitly promise "zero management" effort and expense.

4 In the new Solutions Area "Zero Clients" on the IGEL website, you'll read about the fundamental characteristics of a "zero client," what the limits to the various "zero client" approaches are and why, in the final analysis, IGEL Universal Desks are actually the better "zero clients."
