1 ESCUELA SUPERIOR POLITECNICA DE CHIMBORAZO LANGUAGE CENTER ENGLISH SYLLABUS FOR THE SCHOOL OF ECOTOURISM ENGINEERING LEVELS: IV, V, VI, VII INFORMATION DATA: SCHOOL: ECOTOURISM. SUBJECT: ENGLISH LEVELS: IV, V, VI, VII. PERIOD MARCH - AUGUST 2008 NUMBER OF HOURS: 80 WEEKLY PERIODS: 5 INTRODUCTION: These levels are organized by content themes, which stress the communicative value. We suggest that teachers follow these content themes by applying them to real life situations and by following them in the order they are presented. They gradually and logically grow in complexity and difficulty. The material to be used is an option that may vary according to each teacher s own material. Technology should be present in all instances when research, open discussions, forums or any oral presentations take place. Based on this consideration, the students of the school of Ecotourism can become candidates as to pursue writing in an academic style. METHODOLOGY: The methodology, material and all of the procedure will be based on the cognitive constructivist process. The students will develop their creative, analytical and reflective capacity in order to build their own knowledge. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: FOURTH LEVEL Students will be able to communicate in English by practicing the form, the meaning and usage of basic structures of the target language according to the level they are taking. Promote discussion from printed material and make students write down ideas, comments, points of view, etc. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: To review all structures: Simple present, simple past, future, Progressive Tense: present, past and future, Perfect Tenses: present, past and future, and prepositions. To express past habits by sharing experiences with others. Talk about future activities, by using simple present and present progressive. Talk about present plans and future activities Talk about immediate plans that they have to do. To describe people, animals and things by using nouns as adjectives. Talk about reflexive actions using reflexive pronouns. Read short stories and report about them (written and oral).

2 Develop intensive and extensive listening skills. Develop speaking skills. Students will get the opportunity to practice their skills in English by promoting a realistic use of the language through individual, pair and group work as well as role playing. 3 FIFTH LEVEL GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to communicate in English by using knowledge of target language they have acquired during past four levels. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: Speak more fluently about any topic. Write more accurately by following different academic writing techniques. Read extensive and intensively by applying different reading techniques. Promote discussion from printed material and make students write down ideas, comments, points of view, etc. Create a good teaching learning environment for fair writing. Students will get the opportunity to practice their skills in English by promoting a realistic use of the language through individual work and pair work, group work and role playing.
