1 Illinois Learning Specialist II (LBSII) Endorsements at UIC Earn your IL LBS II Endorsement through the UIC Department of Special Education in the College of Education. You will join one of the top teams of educators in the nation. UIC is the only program in the Chicago area to offer all 6 LBS II options. Choose from: Assistive Technology Specialist Intervention Specialist Bilingual Specialist Curriculum Adaptation Specialist Multiple Disabilities Specialist Transition Specialist Admissions Requirements The admissions requirements for the LBS II program are the same for master s degree seeking students and non-degree continuing education students: Hold Illinois full LBS I (ages 5 21) endorsement 2.75 GPA in the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate studies and minimum 3.0 GPA in graduate studies Two or more years teaching experience with students with disabilities, including student teaching Three letters of recommendation Review of UIC Teacher Dispositions by one recommender and by the applicant Professional goal statement Resume Complete an interview and impromptu writing sample coordinated by the Special Education Department There are two options for earning your LBS II endorsement. You can enter the program as a regular University student (traditional route) or you can enter the program as a continuing education student. 2 Highlights Each LBSII endorsement program is 6 courses. You can earn an M.Ed degree in Special Education by either pursuing two specializations (18 credits each) or one specialization plus additional coursework (total of 36 credit hours). All coursework is partially or completely online. Coursework sessions are in the evenings (face to face sessions meet 5:00 p.m. in fall and spring, 4:30 in summer sessions) Outcomes Learn evidence-based practices from department faculty all engaged in research and funded projects that draw on latest research-based teaching practices valued in schools. Build leadership skills by learning advanced knowledge in one component of special education (e.g., behavior intervention) and acquiring skills to assume positions to reform education for students with disabilities and enhance advocacy for student and family rights. Network with professionals (e.g., educators, therapists, community agency personnel, researchers) to change schooling and adult outcomes for students with disabilities. Intervention Specialist IL LBS2 Endorsement Options Support all students with challenging behaviors that may occur across multiple settings and concurrent with a range of other disabilities Bilingual Specialist (*** currently not accepting students) Support all students who are English language learners (ELLs) and who may also have disabilities Curriculum Adaptation Specialist Support students by learning best practices to differentiate instruction for students with academic and behavioral support needs Multiple Disabilities Specialist Support students with physical and intellectual disabilities and families to enhance the quality of life; interface with agencies, families, and related personnel Technology Specialist
