5 Technical KVM over IP KVM over IP: KVM over IP is the latest development in the industry to allow access of KVM/Server PC over LAN/Internet via simple web browser application. Traditional KVM extender only allows KVM signals to be transmitted over the RJ-45 Ethernet cable. However it does not allow the traffic to pass through switch/router devices for both LAN and Internet access. 11 Technical Hotkey Mapping Hotkey Mapping: SP1200A can work in conjunction with 8/16-Port KVM Switch and operate servers using hotkey and OSD functions. Hotkey function requires the key strokes to be pressed in sequence on the keyboard within a short time frame (1-2 seconds). Using Hotkey operation over Internet will not be possible without the Mapping function provided by the SP1200A due to delays in network. Hotkey Mapping will allow the user to specify the sequence of key strokes and be mapped to a button on the web browser. By pressing the button, the system will send a sequence signal without delays to initiate the key strokes on the server end. 11
12 Technical Virtual Media Storage Virtual Media Storage: SP1200A allows administrator to create a virtual network drive on the local server PC. The host PC can upload floppy and CD-ROM image to allow all local server PCs to gain access to the media. The function requires both host and local PCs to use Windows 2000/XP or above. SP1200A also supports Drive Redirection to allow hard discs, CD- ROM or other USB drive on the host PC to become accessible at the local server PC. 12

15 Technical KVM over IP Security HTTPS: Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is a revised HTTP standard to further include network security components for protecting the communication. Websites or services with HTTPS protection will usually begin with for its URL address. This will tell the web browser encrypt the communication via HTTP. CSR: Certificate Signing Request (CSR) involves the process of sending message from an applicant to a Certified Authority (CA) for applying digital identity certificate. CSR message will contain the applicant s identity and chosen public key for encryption. The process will ensure that only authorized PC can access the SP1200A via the Internet. 15
