This collaboration consisted in consultancy regarding the assessment of the value added of Portuguese schools. Collaboration with Oxera, a consulting company in the UK, since December 2006 on the analysis of productivity change in the water industry in England and Wales. Collaboration with Prof. Emmanuel Thanssoulis (Aston University, UK) on a project evaluating the efficiency of primary care units of a primary care trust (PCT) in the UK. 2

5 Chapter 2 Research The main line of research is the development of performance evaluation models for organizations in different sectors of activity. Performance models have been created, using as a basis the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methodology, where both cross-sectional and panel data have been analysed. The main fields of application are so far: schools, universities, banks, primary care units, water companies, and retail stores. Within these fields of application substantial theoretical developments have been achieved. In particular models to deal with negative data, models that provide closest targets, models to compute profit efficiency, and developments on the use of Malmquist indices to measure total factor productivity change. 2.1 Scientific Production Articles published in International Journals Has published articles in a variety of journals, the most important of which being: European Journal of Operational Research Society.
