1 Diane Baird Diane Baird is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and instructor in the department of Pediatrics at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine, at the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect. She holds a bachelor s degree in education and earned her MSW from Tulane University Graduate School of Social Work. Her clinical work involves parent child interactional evaluations and treatment, infant mental health, child and family therapy, therapeutic visitation, and post adoptive intervention. She is particularly interested in rehabilitation of parent child relationships following abuse or neglect. Diane s interest in attachment and early childhood development is central to her clinical work; she has served as an expert in this area for the state of Colorado Department of Human Services for over 15 years. Diane was a child welfare caseworker and supervisor before her employment with the Kempe Center in Her position is currently in the Training, Education, and Consultation Program at the Kempe Center; Diane writes curricula, provides training for Colorado DHS and the State Judicial Office, and collaborates with other states in the region to develop and offer training to child welfare staff. At the Kempe Center Diane Co-directs the State and Regional Team (START), a multidisciplinary consultation group that has reviewed complex cases of child maltreatment, from a civil and/or criminal perspective, for over 20 years; cases may be referred from Colorado, Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, or other states in the region. Diane is endlessly intrigued by the complexities of parent-child relationships and the effects of maltreatment on child development. She has never had a boring day at work.

2 Bridget Derkash Bridget is the Program Manager and Implementation Specialist for SafeCare Colorado at the Kempe Center for the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. In addition to managing the research and evaluation portion of SafeCare Colorado, Bridget is also a certified SafeCare home visitor, coach, and trainer. Bridget holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, summa cum laude and a M.A. in International Disaster Psychology from the University of Denver (DU). During her time at DU, Bridget worked with Oceans Beyond Piracy as a research assistant studying Maritime Piracy on Pilipino Seafarers and gained practice expertise in areas of trauma and displacement through work with Blue Bench, Jewish Family Services, and the African Community Center. Bridget has sought diverse work and learning experiences that foster collaboration and inclusion throughout her professional career and educational development. She has worked internationally in Mexico, Cambodia, and India, nationally with Navajo Nation, and locally with homeless populations in Boulder and Denver, Colorado. In her free time Bridget enjoys skiing, kayaking, and outdoors.

3 Colleen Gibley-Reed Colleen Gibley-Reed enthusiastically accepted the ask to participate as a member of the Kempe Equity Ambassador Program to represent the Colorado Child Welfare Training System (CWTS). Modeling and building cultural responsiveness is one of the three pillars of the CWTS. Not only is equity work important in her role for her job, more importantly, Colleen believes it is important in her role as a human being. Social justice has always been a passion area for Colleen, and she has worked hard to learn, grow and develop on her own personal journey over the past 20 years. Colleen states, I must say that my journey went into full gear about 5 years ago when I was working toward my MSW at the University of Denver, and I was able to begin to unpack the privileged identities I hold and how they contribute to the oppression of marginalized groups. In the past 5 years I have worked intentionally on a daily basis, both personally and professionally, to do what I can to disrupt my privilege and work toward equality for all individuals and groups of people I encounter. My hope is that my experiences can offer something positive as I work with the other Equity Ambassadors on this project. I am humbled and appreciative for the experience. This is not a resume builder, this work is important to me to the very core of my being. Thank you for the opportunity!

4 Evelin Gomez Dr. Evelin Gomez is Assistant Professor at UC Denver School of Medicine, Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect. She is Clinical and Training Director for the Trauma Informed Practice (TIP) program. Dr. Gomez is bilingual, Spanish speaking and bicultural; and works with children and families who have experienced trauma. She also works with community agencies, the child welfare system, and other systems bringing trauma informed services and training. In addition, she has a broad and extensive background on diversity issues and disparity with minority populations. Her expertise includes child trauma, evidence based treatments, community mental health and child welfare issues, early intervention, and integrated behavioral health services. Dr. Gomez enjoys spending time with her family, traveling with them, and being part of her kids' activities. She is originally from Central America and grew up in Venice Beach, CA and loves the ocean! She likes to dance, have good coffee with good company, and when time permits enjoys reading. Her favorite book is by Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist.

5 Sean Hirro Sean Hirro grew up in the Philippines where he earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology then attended De La Salle University Manila graduate school prior to moving to the United States in 2005 to join his parents in Carbondale, Colorado. Prior to joining the Colorado Child Welfare Training System in July of 2014, Sean was an ongoing caseworker with Boulder County Department of Housing and Human Services since 2008; and he was with Garfield County Department of Human Services prior to that. Sean s combined experience with both counties were on case managing juvenile sex offenders and their victims, juvenile delinquents, participants of the Juvenile Integrated Treatment Courts (JITC), and abused and neglected youths in the dependency and neglect courts. In the Philippines, Sean was active in the academe with the De La Salle University School Systems and corporate trainings where he specialized in the areas of behavioral and social sciences. Outside of work, Sean enjoys cooking pan-asian and Mediterranean cuisines for friends and families. Aside from enjoying the outdoors and exploring local restaurants, Sean enjoys watching comic books movies and classic black and white sci-fi films. Aside from English, Sean is fluent in Pilipino (Tagalog), his national language, Spanish, American Sign Language (ASL), and three local languages in the Philippines. He also speaks beginner French.

6 Michelle Howard Michelle Howard, M.S., LPC is a Senior Faculty member at the Kempe Center for Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect located at the University of Colorado. Michelle has over 17 years of experience in the field of child welfare and juvenile justice and more than 10 years of experience facilitating professional development and continuous learning of child welfare professionals. Michelle has written and delivered trainings, provided consultation and/or coached in over thirty states across the country on multiple best practice strategies to include FGDM, Family Finding, Culturally Responsive Practice, Father Engagement and Child Welfare Supervision.

7 Donna L. Parrish Donna L. Parrish, M.A., LPC will kick off the Doctor of Philosophy in Education and Human Development program at the University of Colorado Denver in fall, Donna has 22 years of progressive experience in human services, which includes directing multi-faceted and complex projects. Donna is not only passionate but has been responsible for the leadership, influence, administration and day-to-day management of multiple diversity and inclusion efforts to ensure that community based and culturally responsive services were integrated within the array of services offered in a variety of settings. Donna, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Colorado received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Tuskegee University and her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and Counselor Education from the University of Colorado. Outside of work, Donna enjoys spending time with her four children (two girls and two boys), husband, extended family and several sister circles doing various culturally enriching activities, including traveling to new places.

8 Kim Pierpoint Kim Pierpoint is a senior healthcare manager with over 30 years of experience in hospital, consulting, and academic medical center settings. She has managed budgets upwards of $15 million, helped launch two successful start-up companies, and negotiated contracts worth $5 million to consulting clients. Since 2001, as Administrator, she has managed the financial, human resources and general operations of the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect. She enjoys coaching faculty and staff in the non-academic side of the Center s operations and has become adept at navigating the financial and procedural hurdles inherent in institutional life. She is honored to be an Equity Ambassador and is committed to the University s Strategic Priority #5: to enhance diversity university-wide and foster a culture of inclusion. Kim is married with two grown children, a sprint-distance triathlete, and plays guitar in her spare time.

9 Teri Wilson For the last 3 years, Teri has provided human resources and operational management for the Kempe Center. Her guidance and professional services have been focused in the areas of employee relations, policy development, and recruitment. Having worked in both academic and medical institutions, specifically in areas dealing with underserved individuals and their families for over 15 years, Teri has gained an understanding and respect for differences across multiple platforms. She believes in the importance of diversity and the ability to recognize inequalities across not only racial lines but across needs, learning difficulties, classes, etc. As a member of the Kempe Center, Equity Ambassador Program, and the University of Colorado, Teri hopes to strengthen the resources and practices of equity and inclusion by collectively building a strong, inclusive, and equitable community.
