5 DEFINITIONS OF CONCEPTS USED IN THE STATISTICS PRESENTED REGISTRATION: refers to the process by which students, upon acceptance into a given faculty and programme at the University, give written notification of the courses which they wish to pursue during the current semester/academic year. Different aspects of the registration data are represented, that is, by country of origin of student, by faculty and programme level, as detailed in the tables. PROGRAMME: refers to the course of study for which the student has been admitted into the University. This pertains to Undergraduate (e.g. B.Sc. B.A. B.Ed.), Certificates, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas and Higher Degrees (M.A., M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D. etc,). CATEGORIES OF STUDENTS ON-CAMPUS: Students who attend classes on the St. Augustine or Mt. Hope campuses in pursuit of degree, certificate and diploma programmes. OFF-CAMPUS: Students who pursue all their university courses through educational institutions not formally part of The University of the West Indies, such as tertiary level institutions and other affiliated institutions. EVENING: Students who are registered in Certificate/Diploma or Degree programmes which are offered specifically in the Evening University FULL-TIME: Registered students who carry the complete load of course credits associated with their university programme for that semester/academic year. PART-TIME: Registered students who carry less than the complete load of courses associated with their university programme for that semester/academic year. SPECIALLY ADMITTED: Students admitted to the University under special circumstances, such as to attend selected courses not associated with a particular programme. [Not included in the official University Statistics]. EXAM ONLY: Students who register for the purpose of writing examinations only. EXCHANGE: A special category of external students who fulfil entrance and credit transfer requirements by means of a reciprocal arrangement between the University and another institution. NEW ADMISSIONS: This refers to registered students who are new entrants to the University. The data published in this report were generated as at March 8th,
