5 CETA Performance/Certification Guidelines - CPC100 PURPOSE: CETA s objective in publishing the performance standard is to provide a uniform method of testing and rating pressure washers. The movement towards performance standards has become a world-wide effort. The use of such standards offers significant advantages. A performance-based standard focused on desired characteristics of the final product, service or activity rather than the processes to produce it. Note that performance-based standards are also known as objective-based standards. The CETA CPM-100 standard was developed as a guide; to assist manufactures establish power washer performance standardization, testing procedures and measurements throughout the industry. These measurements and performance standard will also aid the dealer, consumer and general public knowing a standardized test was conducted on a machine they are selling or buying. The development and existence of the CETA CPC-100 does not prohibit manufactures, retailers or users from advertising, marketing or using products if they have not conformed to the uniform testing method. The goal is to have a standard to evaluate pressure washer specifications used in advertising. By partnering with Intertek (ETL) or CSA, CETA Performance Certification is issued and controlled by a third-party testing program. The CETA CPC-100 was prepared and acknowledged by the CETA Technical committee, SCOPE: The CETA CPC-100 guidelines cover portable, stationary and fixed gas and electric pressure washers, in which the discharge line is hand supported and manipulated and built for household/retail, or commercial/industrial application as defined in UL 1776, Section 1.1, 1995 or latest edition. Note this standard does not pertain to propane powered engines. CPC-100 PROCESS: The CPC-100 mark on your product demonstrates a sample of the product has been certified to the CETA Performance Standards administered by a third party lab for verification. This mark represents to the dealer, retailers or end users the performance mark on the equipment is accurate within the CETA Performance Standard guidelines. ELIGIBILITY: Any company actively manufacturing, dealing or retailing pressure washers is eligible to be a member of CETA. If companies are not a current or active CETA member they are eligible for the CETA Performance Standards qualifications and marking but at a cost of (Twelve hundred dollars) $1,200 to be paid to CETA. THIS IS A FREE BENEFIT TO CETA MEMBERS. 5

6 CERTIFICATION MARK AND GUILDLINES: CETA recognizes that selling or distributing CETA certified products helps differentiate you from your competitors that have not made the same commitment to their customers. CETA encourages you to leverage a product s CETA certification when you promote that product. Keep the following guidelines when promoting the CETA CPC-100 products: - Mark on product, literature, web page, or any advertising avenue should be marked clear and correct based on the logo standards. Please check the mark and download the mark for the accuracy. - If some products appearing on advertisements; including web site, brochure, ad or catalog have met the CETA standards guidelines but others have not, you must ensure the working and placement of the CETA CPC Reference; make it clear which products are in fact certified by CETA and which are not. Do not us the CETA Performance Standard mark in general advertising or promotional material to suggest that noncertified products have, in fact, been certified. - Products tested to the CPC-100 standards but have not been verified by CSA or Intertek (ETL) cannot bear the CPC-100 mark on them or in connection with product advertising. - The CETA CPC-100 mark should be displayed large enough to be clearly read. CETA suggests a 1 1/4: circumference mark. - CETA s performance certification is published in the CETA online directory and will highlight all active companies participating in the standards. - As a widely recognized and respected image of trust, the CETA mark can also help improve or speed market acceptance with buyers. - CETA s performance standard provides peace of mind that the product or system will work as intended and comply with industry requirements. 6

7 STARTING YOUR CETA CPC-100 CERTIFICATION PROCESS: Performance is controlled by a third party companies Intertek (ETL) or CSA. Interek (ETL) or CSA, global independent testing laboratories conducts the testing and verifies the ratings according to the accepted standards. It is at the Manufactures discretion which company they choose to conduct testing. ORDER OF OPERATIONS: Manufacture has pressure washer to be tested for certification listing: 1. Manufacture: test a sample of pressure washer according to the instructions (3.0) in the CPC-100 standards 2. Manufacture prepare specifications list: (Model number, Gallons Per Minute, Pounds Per Square Inch and Horse Power/Engine CC) of machines to be inspected 3. Manufacture: Call ETL or CSA and request an inspection per the CETA Performance Standard CPC-100, in additional to the routine certifications. 4. ETL or CSA: provides a quote and establishes a project number 5. ETL or CSA: arrives at manufacture s location to perform testing Manufacture: ships designated units to ETL or CSA 6. ETL or CSA: test random sample or units chosen by manufacture s specification list 7. ETL or CSA: provides manufacture with approval for certification to the CETA CPC-100 (in addition to routine safety certification) 8. Manufacture: submits ETL or CSA s approval to CETA 9. CETA: provides manufacture with a letter of compliance and permission to use the CETA Performance Standards logo on equipments, sales literatures, etc. 7
