New Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries SCHOLARSHIPS/AWARDS/PRIZES On behalf of the Board of Governors, the Property and Finance Committee has approved the following terms of reference for new scholarships, awards, bursaries and prizes. Joan Scarfone Memorial Award (Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Medicine) Awarded annually to a full-time student in fourth year in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program who will be pursuing a medical elective in a developing country. The award will be made prior to the student s departure. Preference will be given to a student registered in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry Windsor Program. The recipient will be selected by the Progression and Awards Committee in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. This award was established by Dr. David John Scarfone (MD 82) in honour of his mother Joan. Value: 1 at $1,250 Effective: to academic years inclusive Gary Segal Family Award in Jewish Studies (Faculty of Social Science, Jewish Studies) Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student in any year of the Jewish Studies Program (constituent University only) based on academic achievement and financial need. The online Financial Assistance Application can be accessed through the Office of the Registrar's Web site and must be submitted by October 31. The recipient will be selected by the Scholarship and Awards Committee in the Department of History after the Registrar s Office assesses financial need. This award was established through the generosity of Mr. Gary S. Segal, LLB 79, through Foundation Western. Value: 1 at $1,000 Mr. Segal s gift is eligible for inclusion in the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) program. Under the OTSS program, the Province of Ontario may provide a dollar-for-dollar match over time for endowed gifts directed to student bursaries or financial need-based awards and scholarships. Fulfilment and timing of the provincial match are not guaranteed by the University and/or Foundation Western. Recipients must meet Ontario residency requirements. If the OTSS match is realized, the number and/or value of the award will be increased accordingly. Stephen Kaganov Award (Faculty of Social Science, Jewish Studies) Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student in any year of the Jewish Studies program (constituent University only) who has excelled in The Holocaust History 3427E course and has demonstrated financial need. The Online Financial Assistance Application can be accessed through the Office of the Registrar's Web site and must be submitted by October 31. The recipient will be selected by the Scholarship and Awards Committee in the Department of History after the Registrar s Office assesses financial need. This award was established through the generosity of Mr. Stephen B. Kaganov, BSc 75, through Foundation Western. Value: 1 at $850 Mr. Kaganov s gift is eligible for inclusion in the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) program. Under the OTSS program, the Province of Ontario may provide a dollar-for-dollar match over time for endowed gifts directed to student bursaries or financial need-based awards and scholarships. Legacies for Tomorrow Awards (Any Undergraduate Faculty) Awarded annually to full-time undergraduate students in any program based on academic achievement and financial need. Online financial need applications are available through the Office of the Registrar s Web site and must be submitted by October 31. The recipient will be selected by the Office of the

2 January 27, 2011 Annex 7, Page 2 Registrar. These awards were established through the generosity of planned giving donors who, through their estate, made an unrestricted gift to Foundation Western. Value: 10 at $1,000 only These awards have benefitted from proceeds from the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) program and recipients must meet Ontario residency requirements. Diane and Frank Pratt Healthy Lifestyle Award (Any Undergraduate Faculty) Awarded annually to a full-time student in Year 2 or beyond in any program based on financial need and a demonstrated ability to balance academics (minimum 70% average) and a healthy lifestyle. The on-line Financial Assistance Application can be accessed through the Office of the Registrar's Web site and must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar, together with a one-page statement describing how the candidate is balancing academics and a healthy lifestyle, by October 31. Selection will be made by Student Financial Services in consultation with a committee with undergraduate faculty representation. This award was established by Diane (MDIV 90, BA 65) and Frank Pratt (HBA 64), through Foundation Western. Value: 1 at $650 This award is offered through the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund (OSOTF) program, and recipients must meet Ontario residency requirements. Goldman Sachs Scholars Fund MBA Award (School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, Business) Awarded annually to a full-time student entering the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at the Richard Ivey School of Business, based on academic achievement, demonstrated community leadership and financial need. The MBA Scholarship Committee of the Richard Ivey School of Business will review and select each award recipient in consultation with the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. This scholarship is made possible by a generous gift from Goldman Sachs Gives. Value: 1 at $35,000 to April 2015 inclusive Cornell Prize in Aviation Law (Faculty of Social Science, MOS) Awarded annually to the student achieving the highest mark in the Aviation Law Course, Commercial Aviation Stream, Flight Program, Aubrey Dan Program in Management and Organizational Studies (MOS). The recipient will be selected by the MOS Scholarship and Awards Committee at the end of the school year in April. This prize was established by Mr. Justice Cornell. Value: 1 at $500 Effective: to academic years inclusive Robert K. Swartman Award for Innovation (Faculty of Engineering) Awarded annually to a full-time student in Year 3 or 4 of any undergraduate Engineering program who demonstrates exceptional engineering innovation, and exhibits creative ideas or approaches to engineering problems. Innovation may be demonstrated through activities related to courses or activities within the engineering curriculum, an extracurricular project, or innovation activities outside the university setting (e.g., a co-op or internship placement, volunteer activity, job or self-owned business). Interested students should write an essay describing their innovation and highlight their initiative related to their innovation. The written essay should not exceed 1,500 words. Diagrams and letters of recommendation may be included, in addition to the essay. Applications will be assessed and rated by a committee that includes a faculty member from each of Western Engineering s four departments, and at least three non-western Engineering volunteers (alumni if possible) who have an engineering and/or business background. The committee may choose to invite candidates to make a formal presentation no later than the end of the winter term exam period. Applications must be submitted online to the Undergraduate Student Office in the Faculty of Engineering by March 15. This award was established by Tim Kwan (BESc 73) in honour of Professor Robert K. Swartman. Value: 1 at $2,500

3 January 27, 2011 Annex 7, Page 3 Effective: to academic years inclusive Dr. Mark Cohen Ophthalmology Scholarship (Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Medicine) Awarded annually to a full-time student graduating from the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program with academic achievement who is pursuing a residency or graduate program in ophthalmology at any Canadian institution. Preference will be given to someone studying at an Ontario institution. The recipient will be selected by the Scholarship and Awards Committee, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at the end of the school year in April. This scholarship was established by MD Medical Marketing. Value: 1 at $1,500 Effective: to academic years inclusive Robert J. Gorman MBA Scholarship (School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, Business) Awarded to a full-time student entering the MBA program at the Richard Ivey School of Business, based on strong academic standing. Preference will be given to a Canadian citizen with a minimum 80% academic average on admission. Final selection of the recipient will be made by the MBA Scholarship Review Committee of which at least one member must hold membership in the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. This scholarship is made possible by a generous gift from Mr. Robert J. Gorman through Foundation Western. Merner Continuing Awards (Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Medicine) Awarded annually to students entering first year of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program based on academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. Candidates must also meet OTSS eligibility requirements. These awards will continue for up to four years provided that recipients progress satisfactorily and continue to demonstrate financial need each year. Candidates must complete an admission bursary application form, which is available online through the Office of the Registrar's Web site, by August 1. The Office of the Registrar will determine financial need and make the final selection of the recipient. In the event of a late offer, exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis. These awards were established by a generous bequest from Dr. Thomas B. Merner (MD '37) through Foundation Western. Undergraduate students must be in year 2 or higher of the Geography program in the Faculty of Social Science with a minimum 75% academic average. Graduate students must be in a graduate Geography program in the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies with a minimum 80% academic average. Preference will be given to international students from Hong Kong or to students from any country with an ethnic Chinese background, and then to students from any country with an Asian background. Applications can be obtained from the Department of Geography and must be submitted by October 31. Selection of the recipient will be made by the Chair of the Department of Geography in consultation with both undergraduate and graduate faculty. To select a graduate student, one representative of the selection committee must be a member of the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. This scholarship was established by a generous gift from Cecilia Yau in honor of Professor Elaine Bjorklund through Foundation Western. To: Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students. Undergraduate students must be in Year 2 or higher of the Geography program in the Faculty of Social Science with a minimum 75% academic average. Applications can be obtained from the Faculty of Engineering and must be submitted, along with a short statement outlining candidates' interest in the Power Systems Engineering Option, by September 30. The Faculty of Engineering will select the recipients. These awards are made possible by a generous gift from Hydro One Inc. Effective: to academic years inclusive Hydro One Graduate Scholarships (School of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies, Engineering) Change in Criteria from: Awarded annually to full-time graduate students pursuing a Masters or PhD program in the Faculty of Engineering, based on academic achievement and research merit in Power Systems Engineering. The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will select the recipients in consultation with the Faculty of Engineering. If there is an Ontario Graduate Scholarship recipient specializing in Power Systems Engineering in any given year, the value of the award will be used to support Western's contribution to the OGS program*. To: Awarded annually to a student entering first year of the MD program, who has demonstrated one of the highest competitive scores for admission to the medical program. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry will select the recipient. Effective: academic year Tony Kobal Education Assistance Memorial Award (Any Undergraduate Faculty) Change in Criteria and Value from: Awarded to a student with the highest final marks in Grade 13 who registers full time in the constituent University. The applicant must be a son or daughter of a regular staff member of the Physical Plant Department. In the event that there are no students entering first year, the award will be offered to students registering in second, third, and fourth years, in that order. Established by the Physical Plant Social Club in memory of Tony Kobal to honor his 36 years of service to the Physical Plant Department and his artistic contributions to the University Value: $250 To: Awarded to the student with the highest final marks in Grade 12 who registers full time in the constituent University. Candidates must have completed 5.0 but not more than 7.0 courses at Western with at least an 80% average. In cases where more than 5.0 courses have been completed, the academic record will be judged on the best 5.0 courses, provided that the average for all courses completed is at least 80%. Scholarships will be awarded in August. Students who accept an in-course scholarship offer must complete at least 2.0 courses during each calendar year (i.e. Winter and Summer) commencing in September of the year of the award. The academic record of each recipient will be reviewed in May, in January and in August. To retain the scholarship, the recipient must have completed at least 2.0 courses and must have maintained an average of at least 80% on all work under review. Each scholarship awarded will be applied against the maximum credit of 15.0 courses, regardless of course withdrawal. To: UWO Part-Time Scholarships (Any Undergraduate Faculty) Awarded annually in the Fall to part-time undergraduate students beyond Year 1 in the Faculties of Arts and Humanities, Health Sciences, Engineering, Information and Media Studies, Music, Science, and Social Science, who are registered in a minimum of 1.0 course and who are pursuing their first degree at Western. Candidates must have been registered in a minimum of 1.0 course in the previous academic year (September to August) and have at least an 80% cumulative average. The scholarship will be renewed for HBA 2 upon successful completion of HBA 1. If a recipient fails to retain the award, another student from HBA 2 will be selected based on academic achievement and demonstrated community leadership. Only one student will hold this scholarship at any given time. Applications for this award must be submitted to the HBA Programs Office by January 31. The HBA Scholarship Committee will make the final selection of the recipient. This award was made possible by gifts from the Class of HBA'77 through Foundation Western. Value: 1 at $4,150 continuing To: Awarded to a full-time student entering the HBA program at the Richard Ivey School of Business, based on academic achievement (minimum 80% average) and demonstrated community leadership. Value: 1 at $4,500 Effective: academic year Schulich Award for Entrepreneurship (School of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies, Business) Change in number and value from: 2 at $1,000 To: 3 at $2,500 Effective: May 2010 to April 2013 inclusive Morrison Scholarship in American Studies for Academic Improvement (Faculty of Social Science, Centre for American Studies) Change in name to: Morrison Scholarship in American Studies for Academic Excellence Effective: to academic years only George Turnbull Award (Faculty of Social Sciences, Aubrey Dan Program in Management and Organizational Studies) Change in value from: $825 To: 1 at $1,125 Jacob Family International Study Award (Any Undergraduate Program) Awarded to an undergraduate student in any year of any program wishing to study abroad for a minimum of one semester, based on demonstrated financial need and academic achievement (minimum 80% average). Preference will be given to a student studying at an accredited university in Israel, and to a student attending a full-year course over a one-semester course. Application forms and details regarding the application process can be obtained from the Office of the Registrar. The deadline date for submissions is April 30. Award recipients will be announced in May of each year, but receipt of the award is dependent on an approved Letter of Permission and acceptance into an accredited university for study abroad. This award was established by Mr. Ellis Jacob. To: Awarded to an undergraduate student in any year of any program wishing to study abroad or on exchange for a minimum of one semester, based on the greatest demonstrated financial need and academic achievement (minimum 80% average). Preference will be given first to a student participating in an exchange to a partner university in Israel, then to a student studying at an accredited university in Israel. Preference also will be given to a student attending a full-year course over a one-semester course. Application forms and details regarding the application process can be obtained from the Office of the Registrar. The deadline date for submissions is April 30. Award recipients will be announced in May of each year, but receipt of the award is dependent on an approved Letter of Permission and acceptance into an accredited university for study abroad. These awards are made possible by Sabine and Raymond W. Leduc. $1,850 will be split among the second place teams [An award is already in place for the 1st place winners of the CMP Canada Strategic Management Award.] Effective: May 2006 to April 2012 academic year To: Sabine and Raymond W. Leduc Strategic Management Prize Awarded to the second place team members in the Business strategy competition in the fourth year BMOS - Strategic Management course MOS 4410A/B. Winning teams are determined based on performance in the strategy competition with final approval by the Director of BMOS. This prize is made possible by Sabine (BA 05) and Raymond W. Leduc (BA 83). Value: $2,000 will be split among the second place team members. Effective: to academic years inclusive CMA Ontario Strategic Management Awards (Faculty of Social Science, Management and Organizational Studies) Change in Name and Criteria from: Awarded to the team members of the top performing teams in the Business strategy competition in the fourth years BMOS - Strategic Management course as determined by a faculty committee. These awards are made possible by the Certified Management Accountants (CMA) of Ontario. To: CMA Ontario Strategic Management Prize Awarded annually to the team members of the top performing teams in the Business strategy competition in the fourth year BMOS-Strategic Management course MOS 4410 a/b. Winning teams are determined based on performance in the strategy competition with final approval by the Director of BMOS. This prize is made possible by Certified Management Accountants (CMA) of Ontario. Effective: to academic years inclusive Fran Wigston Women's Basketball Award (Any Undergraduate or Affiliated University College Student - Athletic Award [Basketball]) Awarded to a full-time undergraduate female student who is in Year 2 of any degree program and who has made a significant contribution as a member of the Women's Basketball team. Candidates must also achieve a minimum 70% academic average. Candidates who are intercollegiate student athletes must be in compliance with current OUA and CIS regulations. The Awards and Scholarships Committee for the School of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Health Sciences will select the recipient. This award is made possible by donations from alumni and friends of Western in support of Women's Basketball. To: Awarded to a full-time undergraduate female student who is in Year 2 or Year 3 of any degree program and who has made a significant contribution as a member of the Women's Basketball team. Candidates must also achieve a minimum 70% academic average. Candidates who are intercollegiate student athletes must be in compliance with current OUA and CIS regulations. Francolini Alumni Scholarship (School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, Business) Awarded annually to a student entering the Executive MBA program at the Richard Ivey School of Business from a Canadian not-for-profit organization. This scholarship was established by the Board of Foundation Western, with contributions from Western alumni, in recognition of Joan Francolini for her service as President of Foundation Western. To: Awarded annually to a student entering the Executive MBA program at the Richard Ivey School of Business. Preference will be given to a student from a Canadian not-for-profit organization or to a student who has a demonstrated interest in working in the not-for-profit sector.
