5 3 Scholarships at pacific oaks college We recognize the sacrifices many of our students make to fulfill their educational dreams. The scholarship program at Pacific Oaks College has been designed to reflect our history, values, and educational philosophy. Institutional scholarships are awarded upon admittance to the college. All donor scholarships are available to online and on-ground students who have completed two consecutive semesters in good academic standing. Unless otherwise specified, all scholarships are applied toward tuition. pacificoaks.edu/scholarships

6 for Incoming Students Institutional Scholarships President s Scholarship $500 $1,000 Awarded to students who demonstrate a commitment to Pacific Oaks College s mission. Each student will be considered automatically for the President s Scholarship through the admissions application process. Qualified full-time students receive $1,000 at the beginning of the first two semesters and qualified half-time students receive $500 at the beginning of the first two semesters. During the final semester of the student s degree program, full-time recipients will receive a final installment of $1,000 and half-time recipients will receive a final installment of $500. Educator s Scholarship $1,500 $3,000 The Educator s Scholarship is awarded to new students in the School of Education, specifically master s degree seeking students holding a teacher s license, or bachelor s-completion students seeking a teaching credential. Qualified full-time students will receive $1,500 per semester for the first two semesters of their program and qualified half-time students receive $750 per semester for the first two semesters of their program. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress and be continuously enrolled in their program throughout the first two semesters in order to maintain eligibility. *Master s degree seeking applicants must provide proof of a teaching license. Legacy Scholarship $1,000 Awarded to full-time students who have an immediate family member (parent, grandparent or sibling) who is either currently enrolled or is a graduate of Pacific Oaks College. Legacy Scholarship recipients receive a $1,000 scholarship divided equally between the first and second semesters of enrollment.

7 5 Academic Partner Scholarship $1,000 Awarded to Bachelor s degree seeking full-time students who are transferring to Pacific Oaks from a designated partner institution. Transfer counselors at these colleges with articulation agreements may award a $1,000 scholarship to transfer students that they refer to Pacific Oaks College. Academic Partner Scholarship recipients will receive a $1,000 scholarship that will be divided equally between the first and second semesters of enrollment. Each student may receive a maximum of one Academic Partner Scholarship. Community Involvement Scholarship $2,000 Awarded to Master s degree seeking full-time students who have provided outstanding service to their communities. Applicants must submit an 800-1,000 word essay that explains their experiences and personal commitments to their communities, demonstrating support for Pacific Oaks College s mission. Essays will be reviewed by a committee. The Community Involvement Scholarship recipients will receive $2,000 scholarships that will be divided equally between the first and second semesters of enrollment. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress and be continuously enrolled as a full time student in order to be eligible for any of the scholarships listed above (except the President s Scholarship). 8 for current Students Donor Scholarships General Scholarships All Pacific Oaks students are eligible to apply for general scholarships to support their educational journeys. Both undergraduate and graduate students may apply online. The timeline and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for applying for fall and spring scholarships and awarding scholarships are posted online at pacificoaks.edu/scholarships. Awards will be made following a review by the Scholarship Committee consisting of faculty and staff representing all academic schools, Financial Aid, Student Services, Finance and Advancement offices.

9 7 Need-based Scholarships The primary factor in determining these awards is the student s financial need based on financial aid documentation. Students must also be in good academic standing in order to apply. Funds are available for both undergraduate and graduate study. Scholarships for Academic Excellence Scholarship funds are available to students who have demonstrated an exemplary level of academic leadership during their initial semesters of study at Pacific Oaks College. Undergraduate and graduate students may apply upon the completion of their second consecutive semester. In addition to submitting the online application and essay, a faculty recommendation may be required. First Generation Scholarship Fund Since a significant number of Pacific Oaks students are the first generation in their families to attend college, a special fund has been established to support their academic pursuits. Financial need will be a primary factor in determining award recipients. The Ruth Pearce Fund for Therapeutic Companions Thanks to a generous donor, a special fund has been established to support students who are pursuing careers as therapeutic companions. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply. Helping Hands Scholarship The Pacific Oaks College Student Government Association supports the Helping Hands Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to current students to assist with the cost of pursuing their education. pacificoaks.edu/scholarships

10 for current Students How to Apply Students may apply for one or more donor scholarships by submitting a single application. Scholarship applications may be submitted online only at pacificoaks.edu/scholarships. Students receiving scholarships will be required to write a thank you note to the scholarship fund donor prior to disbursement of funds. This note may be used in Pacific Oaks publications and materials. Recipients will also be requested to attend an annual scholarship recognition reception held in the spring to celebrate student scholarship recipients and the donors who support them.
