2 What is m-commerce? (I) e-commerce (electronic commerce): any economic transaction via a communications network e-commerce is divided into: B2C (Business to consumer): transactions among the enterprise and the consumer. E.g.: purchasing a book at Amazon.com B2B (Business to business): transactions among enterprises. E.g.: aprovisioning books automatically if stock is not enough What is m-commerce? (II) m-commerce (mobile commerce) Any economic transaction conducted via a wireless communications network It is a subset of e-commerce oriented to the mobile paradigm, in both B2C and B2B variants It is achieved via wireless devices: cellular phones or PDAs. 2
3 What is m-commerce? (III) Advantages Ubiquity: access to infomation at any time from any place Universality: access to the Internet, the greatest information resource ever Personalisation: e-services tailored to the customers Localisation: services aware of the physical context (in near future) 3
