1 Marketing Programmes Short Course in Customer Service Management Qualification code: ln many industries competing products are fairly similar, making it difficult for the individual firm to establish a sustainable competitive advantage against rivals. Customer service is one of the product features which can be utilised to establish such competitive uniqueness, but most firms in South Africa fail to realise this fact. The Short Course in Customer Service Management focuses on two main areas, namely the management of a customer service programme in the organisation and the establishment of a code of conduct for employees in the customer contact situation. The short course therefore has an organisational and employee specific focus. Duration Three months. A national senior certificate or equivalent qualification, or alternatively be older than 25 with suitable practical experience. Code Module (Consists of only one module) SCCS01V Customer Service Management Students will be assessed on the strength of two assignments and an examination. Students must obtain at least 50% in one assignment in order to qualify for the examination. A formal examination for the respective intakes will be written during May and October at official Unisa examination centres. On successful completion of the short course a certificate will be posted to students. NOF level 6 12 credits Advanced study opportunities The Programme in Customer Service Management, the Programme in Business to Business Marketing or the Programme in Marketing Management. English. 2 Registration, commencing dates and fees There will be two intakes per year. Registration commences ten weeks before the commencement date for each separate intake. The individual commencement and registration dates are as follows: First semester: 22 Jan (registration takes place from 1 Dec until 22 Jan) 16 Jul (registration takes place from 21 Jun until 16 Jul) The short course fee is R1000. A minimum of R600 must be paid on registration. The short course fee includes all tutorial matter, except the prescribed book that must be purchased at an official Unisa book store. Public Relations can also be used to promote people, places, ideas, activities and even nations. The purpose of this qualification is to develop in a learner the competence to apply basic English speaking and writing skills, and to develop in a learner the competence to assist, under supervision, in the implementation of elementary public relations, communication and media activities. The Short Course in Public Relations aims to provide a working knowledge of the principles of Public Relations. Duration Three months. A national senior certificate or equivalent qualification and/or applicable experience. Code SSPR01D Module Basic Public Relations Principles Students will be assessed on the strength of one assignment per module to be completed during the course of three months. To qualify for the examination, a minimum of 50% must be obtained for the assignment.

3 Students will be evaluated on the basis of a two-hour open-book examination to be written during May/ June or October/November at official Unisa examination centres. To pass the short course, students must obtain a minimum of 50% in the examination. A mark of 75% constitutes a distinction. This short course focuses on attracting and retaining customers through excellent service, cooperation, trust, commitment and sharing of information. CRM is all about business relationships and how the marketer can create new value for its customers, suppliers, employees and investors by managing these relationships. The aim of this short course is to gain a basic knowledge of CRM.

Code Module SCRM01D Customer relationship management principles (Case study in customer relationship management for assignments and in the examinations) Students will be assessed on the strength of one assignment for the module to be completed during the course of the three months. To qualify for the examination, students must obtain a minimum of 50% in the assignment. Students will be evaluated on the basis of an open-book, two-hour examination for the module, to be written in October/November or May/June each year at official Unisa examination centres. To pass the course, students must obtain 50% in the examination. A mark of 75% constitutes a distinction. On successful completion of the short course a certificate will be posted to students. Sales is often regarded as an integral tool for the successful marketing of any product or service. The fact is that no matter how good the companys marketing, until a sale takes place, there is no income! The Course in lntroduction to Sales and Marketing provides students with a background to the field of marketing and specific skills in selling. The two modules in this course address the following key areas: Marketing fundamentals Relationship marketing Customer behaviour Market segmentation and positioning Sales techniques Customer identification and profiling Presentation skills Communication skills Code PISM01V PISM02W Module lntroduction to Marketing Sales Principles Duration Six months. It is widely accepted that the quality of the people in business organisations can make a major difference in the competitiveness of these businesses. It is therefore beneficial to study marketing management, even though not everyone will become marketing managers. The need to introduce an introductory course in marketing management has arisen from numerous enquiries from businesses in South Africa who asked for an introductory course to expose their personnel to the basics of marketing. Please note that this course is the distance education version of the Short Course in Marketing (code 71595). Duration Six months. A national senior certificate or equivalent qualification. Code CCIM01S CCIM02T Module Identifying the Target Market The Marketing Mix Students will be assessed on the strength of assignments during the six month period (one per module). To qualify for the examination, students must obtain a minimum of 50% in the assignment set for each module. Students performance will be evaluated on the basis of a formal two-hour examination on each module, at official Unisa examination centres. To pass a module, a student must obtain a minimum of 50% in the examination. A mark of 75% will indicate that the module has been passed with distinction. Sales in business-to-business markets accounts for more than 50% of total sales in developed markets. The unique demands put on the business-to-business marketer is addressed in this course. The need for knowledge in this field is growing day by day. Consequently, many lucrative positions exist in the business, parastatal and governmental fields. Jobs as marketing, sales, product and export marketers in business markets abound. Also jobseekers interested in getting employment in the marketing division of an organisation would benefit from this programme. More than 3

11 500 students have already successfully completed this programme and entered the labour market in marketing related positions. The Programme is offered only by Unisa - it is the marketing programme everyone is talking about! Duration Twelve months. The four modules cover the following areas: Code Module PB2B01W Customer Analysis This module focuses on the fundamentals of Business-to-Business Marketing, and the analysis of the business environment through the use of formal and informal marketing research. Performing a Customer analysis forms the cornerstone of this module. PB2B02X PB2B03Y PB2B043 Strategic Marketing Planning This module focuses on the strategic issues in managing business markets. Two primary strategic decisions are who to serve -by performing market segmentation and choosing target markets and how to serve them -through the establishment of a competitive market offering. Marketing Strategies The primary components of the business marketing mix are managing products in the market place and promoting the product to present and potential customers. Internet marketing is also becoming an important part of promoting business products. In this module the other components of the marketing mix, namely pricing and logistics management are also discussed. The unique demands of business-tobusiness pricing are discussed, inter alia, managing competitive bidding and leasing. Logistics and value chain management are viewed from supply and demand chain networks. Export Marketing This module examines all the aspects of export marketing, including the analysis of the international business environment, export marketing research, export market selection and the export marketing strategy. The benefit of this module is that it opens up the world to the business-to-business marketer. These modules are offered on a six monthly (semester) basis. If you register for a module in the first semester, you will write the examination in May or June. If you register for the second semester, you will write the examination in October or November. You may not register for more than three new modules at any one time. It is recommended to register for modules PB2B01W and PB2B02X in the first semester and for PB2B03Y and PB2B043 in the second semester. A learner s performance is evaluated on the basis of compulsory assignments throughout the year that contribute to the final mark. Formal examinations will be written in May/June and October/November at official Unisa examination centres. There will be open book examinations. All these countries are now dependant on the services provided by companies to grow their economies. Marketing activities such as selling to clients, developing a public relationship campaign and managing a retail operation are all closely related to customer service provision. Customer service personnel also need to acquire knowledge about these marketing related fields. The Programme in Customer Service Management will help you develop the necessary skills to become a customer service and marketing expert. This programme may also prepare you for a management position in a large organisation in future.

Students will be assessed by means of assignments per module. Students must obtain 50% in these assignments to gain admission to the examination. 10% of the best assignment mark will be used to calculate the final year mark. Students will be evaluated by means of a two-hour examination paper written for each module at the end of each semester (in June and November of THE YEAR). Add to this the advantage South Africa has in terms of its relatively weak currency, combined with the expansion generally being experienced in global trade, the recent financial crisis notwithstanding, then companies should be encouraged to go international. Foreign markets offer tremendous opportunities for the astute international marketer. This Programme in International Marketing will guide individuals and companies as to how best to take advantage of the opportunities offered by these growing foreign markets and to become an astute international marketer. The emphasis of these topics is on the practical application of the theory and is suitable for any person interested in getting to grips with international marketing opportunities. These modules are offered on a six monthly (semester) basis. If you register for a module in the first semester, you will write the examination in May or June, while if you register in the second semester, you will write the examination in October or November. It is recommended to register for modules PPIM01Q and PPIM02R in the first semester and for PPIM03S and PPIM04T in the second semester. Students will be assessed on the strength of at least one assignment per module to be completed during the course of the twelve months, which will count towards the final mark. To qualify for the examination, students must obtain a minimum of 50% for the assignment. Students performance will be evaluated by means of a formal two-hour examination for each module. To pass a module, a student must obtain a minimum of 50% final mark (made up as follows: examination mark = 90% + average assignment mark = 10%). A pass of 75% is considered a distinction. This one-year programme in e-marketing is aimed amongst others at: Marketing practitioners and other managers that need to get to grips with new electronic media channels Entrepreneurs that want to start a new online business Existing businesses, large and small, that need to expand their current markets and grow their businesses Any individual that wants to get to grips with online marketing and improve their career and employment prospects

17 This programme is a generic e-marketing programme developed to addresses the needs of a global audience. It is open to all South African as well as international students from around the world. Duration Twelve months. A national senior certificate, or equivalent national or international qualification, or relevant experience. Students must have access to a computer, the internet, and a cell/mobile phone. The four modules comprising this programme cover the following topics: Code Module On application Introduction to e-marketing On application Web-based and search-engine marketing On application and mobile marketing On application Practical e-marketing project Students will be expected to complete an e-marketing research report for the practical module. The emphasis of these topics is on the practical application of the theory and is suitable for any person interested in getting to grips with e-marketing opportunities. These modules are offered on a six monthly (semester) basis. If you register for a module in the first (January) semester, you will write the examination in May or June, whilst if you register in the second (July) semester, you will write the examination in October or November. It is recommended to register for the first two modules in the first semester and for the second two modules in the second semester. Students can also register in July for this programme and will write their final examinations in May/June the year thereafter, should they pass all the modules on their first attempt. Students will be assessed on the strength of two assignments per module to be completed during the course of the six months which will count towards the final mark. To qualify for the examination, students must submit the first assignment. Students performance will be evaluated by means of a formal two-hour written examination for each module (the practical module will be assessed on the basis of a report that must be submitted for evaluation purposes). Examinations can be written throughout the world at official Unisa examination centres. The cost for the programme is R4 600 (or R1 150 per module) including all study materials (including five e-books on each aspect of e-marketing), tuition and examination fees.
