3 The first finger replantation in Turkey: Ayan GÜLGÖNEN 1978 The first successful finger replantation in Turkey (1978) was performed by Dr. Ayan GÜLGÖNEN, and his team in Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The patient was a Dentistry Faculty student whose fifth finger of the right hand was totally avulsed after being trapped in the banister of the stairs.

4 1978 The first free ileum transfer in Turkey Esophageal Reconstruction surgeries were being performed under the presidency of Dr. Orhan İSKEÇELİ in Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. After 1978, Dr. Ayan GÜLGÖNEN contributed in these operations by performing microvascular techniques in the vascular anastomoses. 5 1978 The first four finger replantation in Turkey The first Toe to Hand Transfer in Turkey Japanese Surgeon, Dr. M. Yoshimura, Dr. Ayan Gülgönen, and his team performed the first Four Finger Replantation of Turkey all together in 1978 at I. U. Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In the same year, following this replantation, the surgical team guided by Dr. M. Yoshimura performed the first Toe to Hand Transfer surgery of Turkey in Istanbul Pasteur French Hospital. Dr. J. Michon Dr. M. Yoshimura

6 The First Domestic Microvascular Approximator of Turkey 1978 The approximators that were used in microvascular anastomoses were imported with many difficulties, and it was very hard to obtain them. The first domestic microvascular approximator of Turkey was designed by Dr. Tahir HAYIRLIOĞLU out of hair clips. This device was used in the microsurgical applications in Istanbul Faculty of Medicine.

7 The First (Groin) Free Flap in Turkey 1978 The first groin free flap operation of Turkey was performed in 1978 by Dr. Ayan GÜLGÖNEN, and his team at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

8 The First (Groin) Free Flap in Turkey (Deep circumflex artery+bone) 1979 The first Free Groin Flap -Deep Circumflex Artery, and Bone- of Turkey was performed by Dr. Ayan GÜLGÖNEN, and his team (Dr. Türker ÖZKAN) in 1979 at Istanbul Financial and Trade Sciences Academy, Faculty of Medicine, Plastic Surgery Clinic (renamed as Marmara University Faculty of Medicine afterwards), under the roof of Bezmialem Valide Sultan Vakıf Gureba Hospital.

9 The First Micro-Lymphatico-Venous Anastomosis of Turkey 1979 The first lymphatico-venous microanastomosis was performed by Dr. Ayan GÜLGÖNEN, and his team ( O. Bayrı, T. Özkan) in 1979 at Istanbul Pasteur French Hospital.

10 The First Center and First Team in Turkey The First Center: The first Hand Surgery and Microsurgery Center of Turkey that served on a 365 days, and 24 hours long emergency service concept was established with the presidency of Dr. Ayan GÜLGÖNEN at the end of 1979 at the Pasteur French Hospital.
