3 BA (Honours) Business Year Course Title Course Description Business Business At this level, students will deepen their knowledge and understanding of the theoretical approaches to business management. Themes may include: Marketing, Globalisation, Law, Information Systems and, Macroeconomics, with a focus on key aspects of Human Resource, Project and Operations and Finance. A key feature in this year is the integration of Young Enterprise into the curriculum, where students are placed into groups to decide on a business they are interested in and the programme team brings in a mix of business people to work with them to develop the idea. Students will develop analytical skills in more complex situations than in their previous studies, giving them confidence for further explorations into the business management subject. In addition to the core Business course students will take an additional course in Business. Themes may include: Marketing, Macroeconomics, Strategy, Globalisation and Markets, with a focus on Business Ethics, HRM Leadership and, Employment and Contract Law At this level, students will build on their understanding gained at level I and will deepen their knowledge and understanding of the theoretical approaches to business management. Key themes may include: Strategic, Project and Operations and Globalisation. A key feature at level H is that students can pursue a Research Design Proposal, which can be undertaken on a topic of their choice. Students will undertake advanced studies within the curriculum, synthesizing business problems in complex situations. In addition to the core Business course students will take Business. Students in this year will further develop an advanced understanding of the key themes. Key themes may include: Strategic, Operations, Social Entrepreneurship and Globalisation and Development. A key feature at level H is that each student conducts an individual Research Dissertation or Consultancy Project. This accounts for 25% of the overall mark at level H.

During this year, lectures in Sociolinguistics and Research Methods will enable you to engage with contemporary research and develop your skills of critical and evaluative thinking more fully. You will interrogate the relationship between language and society through detailed study of contemporary sociolinguistic case studies. In addition, you will study Special Topics in Sociolinguistics which cover the research specialisms of members of staff. Currently the Special Topics are, Gender and Sexuality and and Culture. In addition, you will learn to contextualise and critique different methods and techniques in sociolinguistic research, thus enabling you to develop an understanding of current research methods and the applicability of these to your own research projects. At this level you will pursue a sustained, supervised independent research project.

5 BA (Honours) and Literature Year Course Title Course Description Explorations in Explorations in Literature Literature At this level, students will investigate the relations between language, action, knowledge and situation in, Ideology and Power and Media. You will develop analytical skills as you explore the forms of language found in media discourse. In Practical Applications, you will study Child Acquisition and Corpus Linguistics. The teaching strategies in this year help you to develop the research and project planning skills needed for longer and more complex academic projects later on in your studies. There is a range of assessment methods which allow you to further develop skills such as conversation analysis, poster presentation and synoptic examination. At this level, the programme is designed to help you to discover the ways in which knowledge of the literary, cultural, and intellectual history of a period can enrich your understanding of particular authors and texts. Tasks and assessments are designed to help you develop the research and project-planning skills needed for longer and more complex academic projects. During the year you will study Literature from the Glorious Revolution to the Fin de Siècle; Restoration to Early Romantic Literature; Textual Analysis of Nineteenth-Century Literature; and Major Authors of Pre- Twentieth-Century Literature (the authors examined will vary from year to year, but will include writers such as Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Austen, Dickens, and Hardy). Assessments include a single-author study, a comparative essay, synoptic examination, and a problem-based learning exercise. During this year, lectures in Sociolinguistics and Research Methods will enable you to engage with contemporary research and develop your skills of critical and evaluative thinking more fully. You will interrogate the relationship between language and society through detailed study of contemporary sociolinguistic case studies. You will evaluate the implications and possibilities made available by different approaches and theories in relation to the understanding of particular texts, genres, and themes. You will interrogate the nature and formation of the literary canon through detailed analysis of a wide range of genres, focusing primarily on 20th century and contemporary literature. There is a wide range of innovative assessment methods available at this level including portfolio, synoptic examination and extended research

6 essay. During the year, you will study the following: Modernism and Literature (an interdisciplinary lecture strand); Modernism (a seminar series focusing on a range of texts from England, Ireland, and the United States); an Honours Seminar; and Theoretical Models and Research Methods; and an extended research project.
