5 RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Management of Stanford University s Center for Conservation Biology research program in southern Costa Rica. Support and oversee field research conducted by professors and graduate students, including four Stanford doctoral students who developed dissertation research on large areas of private farmland. Hired, trained, and continue to manage dozens of local field technicians and an international team of research assistants and collaborators. Support most analyses in the Center for Conservation Biology that require Geographic Information Systems Participated in and later oversaw all avian research performed by the Teton Science School s Conservation Research Center located in Grand Teton National Park. Designed, implemented, and supervised a research program that integrated methods of monitoring wild bird populations with graduate courses, undergraduate courses, high school and middle school classes, and the public. Hired, trained, and managed dozens of research assistants and teachers. Volunteered in diverse wildlife research projects conducted by other biologist in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. 70 months experience sampling wildlife in temperate and tropical ecosystems. BIRD RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Federal Bird Banding Permit, Master Bander, Permit number: ,000 mist net-hours in temperate and tropical ecosystems (1 mist net-hour = 1 standard-sized mist net in operation for 1 hour). 51 months experience capturing, manipulating, and marking over 400 species of bird including hummingbirds, small songbirds, crows and jays, parrots, toucans, raptors, pelicans, swans, egrets, and herons. 9 months experience at the Laramie Raptor Refuge learning rehabilitation techniques and husbandry practices for captive raptors. MAMMAL RESEARCH EXPERIENCE 10 months experience capturing, manipulating, and marking over 60 species of bat including nectar bats, insectivorous bats, vampire bats, and fruit bats of all sizes. 3 months experience capturing, manipulating, and marking small mammals, pronghorn antelope, fox, and coyote. REPTILE & AMPHIBIAN RESEARCH EXPERIENCE 6 month experience capturing, manipulating, and marking reptiles and amphibians. Chase D. Mendenhall 5
